Ever since coming to college, I've been realizing that the reccomendation of a Tablet PC instead of a normal laptop seems to be paying off more and more for those who decided to invest in one. Such technology makes me aggrevated that only Windows XP supports Tablet PCs. I suppose Linux-based systems have pioneered into the touchscreen's abilities a bit, but not enough that such features could easily be found in a standard distribution. In any case, I think it's high time Apple entered into the market.

Of course, given Apple's completely unnecessary high prices on pretty much everything they offer, I think it would be better if they manufactured slate models instead of the traditional convertable models. In conjuction, Apple could offer an optional keyboard/touchpad accessory to accompany it, preferably attached through some sort of hinge on the ouside of the slate. USB ports could enable standard beyboards and mice to be attached, but to cut costs it would probably be better if Bluetooth and AirPort Extreme weren't built into the slate (after all, there are third-party accessories that enable Bluetooth and wireless if needed). The slate could have the same specifications as the MacBook line (not the MacBook Pro line) and could be called the MacPad.

Any thoughts?

I'm in the medical field and would love a mac tablet. Tablets are great for pretty much anything from checking labs, radiology reports, imaging and even better for writing a history and physical of patients. Only problem is that, just like with the OS compatibility, there's no software out there in the medical field that's for macs. Some imaging servers are linux run but the majority of systems are windows based.

i think it sound good but as CSmatt said Apple takes his hands on every

cent that we have when they show a new toy.

i think they will develop some thing as in Ipod DATA or something like that in the future. On the other hand that market is kind of taken by

companies like Palm etc...

see you.

IMO, it'll spawn from a touchscreen iPod. You heard it here first!

If not a tablet, an ultra-uber-compact laptop. The Macbook is great, but a lot of people want something the same size as the 12" iBooks and Powerbooks of the last generation. And intel offers ultra-low-voltage chips: Apple didn't really have such alternatives in the PPC era. Which in the end means easier access to hardware that Apple can chose to do many a tablet with!
