bofors
Considering Apple offers the 7600GT as a BTO option only on the 24" iMac, this is likely to be true. Ouch
But presumably you still going to be tied to "mac compatible" graphics cards with appropriate EFI shenanigans which will limit your upgrade options? sandwer
But presumably you still going to be tied to "mac compatible" graphics cards with appropriate EFI shenanigans which will limit your upgrade options? Heres a link http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/ It gives some insight into whats been done with MXM so far. Seems theres MXM and variants, so are Apple going to be using the nVidia standard? I expect so. As to the EFI shenanigans, well, has anyone reported success with a vanilla card in a Mac Pro, or vice versa? I'm curious... //R Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/27063-24-imac-uses-mxm/#findComment-184166 Share on other sites
drcreek
Hmm It might be a ruse. I've been looking into it and they don't make a MXM version of the 7300? Only way that this could be true is if apple have started make there own video cards or nVidia are making custom ones for them which i think they did for the Power Mac? So it's still in the air. Just have to wait till somebody dares crack the {censored} open. god, typing that felt dirty but nice. Xenctuary
Interesting news. While there may be no clear benefits at the moment, it's certainly a start. Does anyone know whether this applies across the new iMac line, or only for the 24"? Zizou
Sorry for this post, lol, But from what I've read its possible to put in for instance a BIOS-based card, the only thing is, it will not work on OS X, but will with Windows XP (or vista?) Atleast, that's from what I've read here somewhere on Insanelymac.
