sorry my english :P

my hardware spec is

E6600 2.4GHz@3.0GHz

PNY PC5300 1GB * 2

Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6

Evertop(Sapphire) Radeon 1900GT

ICH8R with 6 HDD, JMB363 with 2 HDD

ODD : JMB363 with Liteon and USB DVD-ROM

SATA BIOS setting is all AHCI (Not IDE/RAID)

Jas 10.4.7 was install smoothly except require USB ODD.

10.4.7 can't recognize JMB363 with ODD.

so you need USB ODD for install jas 10.4.7 image or use record.

(not tested other version and SATA ODD)

I chosen install option only Intel SSE3, 10.4.7 Combo Update, ATI X1600.

and just install.

mac osx 10.4.7 can recognize ICH8R and JMB363 SATA port by the name of Generic SATA.

but JMB363 SATA was very slow. I think it's DMA problem. so It's useless.

ICH8R is very good working.

2 WD3200KS connect to JMB363 (AHCI Version 1.00 Supported).

other 6 HDD connect to ICH8R (AHCI Version 1.10 Supported)

Thank you very much for the report. So are we to take it that the "JMB363" is the controller chip for the on-board IDE channel? It does not work with OS X at all?

Asus P5B also works (w/o sound and lan yet)

Reload and netmagic, can you guys give us detailed install process and also what works and what doesn't work? I also want to get a asus p5b or the gigabyte but want to also get it to work with osx86

Thanks so much!

I don't think netmagic did any special measures to install osx successfully on his system.

1) He just used JaS 10.4.7

2) Loaded the dvd in the external usb drive (he hadn't tried s-ata dvd drive)

3) In the BIOS, set S-ATA to AHCI (not ide or raid) and boot off that dvd

4) Just select Intel SSE3, 10.4.7 Combo Update, ATI X1600 from the install option list

And boila! you have a working conroe osx system...

Wow, that's it? People have been having so much trouble with ICH8 it seems, but more power to those who got it working!

I'm surprised that the Asus P5B Lan doesn't work since I think the Gigabyte 965P-DQ6 both use the same Marvel chip...correct me if I'm wrong. Anyone get the ausio on the P5B to work? I think it's a SigmaTel HDA chip.

I have the same mobo, but for the life of me, I can't get anything to work with AHCI. I have to use Legacy IDE Mode. I actually have a SATA DVDRW though, so maybe it's the problem as you were using USB.

Could you please tell me what you have for the following settings in your BIOS?

SATA RAID/AHCI Mode

SATA Port0-3 Native Mode

Onboard SATA/IDE Device

Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode

And out of curiosity, what did you edit AppleAzaliaAudio.kext to? 0x10ec0888?

And are you using BIOS version F2 or F3?

Thanks!

I reported this in the conroe thread in Genius bar but though I should add here

I was able to get the GA-965P-DS3 to work as well in the same manner as Netmagic. (usb dvd with hd hooked to the sata)

I only got it installed and left it at that, but I had networking out of the box with

10.4.7 Jas using SSE2 patch

Tbor:

Notice Netmagic said the Disc drive (odd = optical disc drive) hooked to the "jmb363" wasn't recognized.

Not sure about the DQ6 boards, but mine has 6 SATA ports, 4 of which are on the Intel ICH8 chipset and 2 are on the Gigabyte SATA raid controller, which also has the ATA controller built in. Anything hooked to those 2 ports/controller won't work. This is the issue your probably having as well. The Purple ports are the ones I'm talking about, anything on the Orange should work fine.

I don't believe the ports on the Intel chipset have an option for "IDE mode" as the chipset was never ment to have any kind of IDE connected. I haven't noticed the option in my bios for it, only for the seperate gigabyte controller.

My BIOS has the option of Legacy IDE Mode for SATA ports 0-3. When I set this, I can boot and install from my SATA DVDRW to my SATA drive, but it's slow, ie, no DMA. When it's set to what Netmagic has explained (from what I understand), I can boot from the SATA DVDRW, but it craps out before it can finish loading.

Today I picked up a USB enclosure for one of my other DVDRW's, and I tried using that. I set to AHCI, I have a drive connected pure SATA, and IDE connected via a SATA converter, and a SATA DVDRW. All OS X sees is the pure SATA drive, it ignores the SATA DVDRW and the IDE via SATA converter when in AHCI mode. I can install flawlessly to the pure SATA drive just fine though, and it isn't slow - so much better than the Legacy IDE Mode option I have.

I expect NOTHING from the Jmicron controller, as I think you and others do as well. I have 6 ICH8 (yellow) ports and 2 Jmicron (purple). Obviously I'm connecting everything to the yellow ports.

But yeah, I'd agree that the best install method so far is from a USB Optical Drive. Sucks I went and wasted 150 on a SATA DVDRW. Oh well. The price of discovery knows no bounds. ;)

Obviously something cheap, haha.

The only markings I can find on it are HW-628 REV 1.0.

I was just hoping to get that IDE working on this install, it has my old copy of OS X on it. I tried connecting it IDE style to the Jmicron but you guessed it, no dice. My next step is to unhook the SATA DVDRW and then try it, for all I know that SATA DVDRW is causing the problem. During setup it DID find the IDE converted SATA drive, it just has 0 bytes on it.

I'll play more tomorrow and see, it's been a long day. I have to get my sound working though, and I'm hoping Netmagic can kindly tell me the ID they used in the plist. Changing from 880 to 888 doesn't do it for me :\

So, the s-ata dvdrw can't be used even after osx is installed?

That sucks big time :)

It doesn't see it. At all. You're right it sucks bigtime! I'm guessing OSX isn't ready for SATA dvdrw's yet.

We're not having any problems booting.. or installing. We're just trying to get different methods working.

just asking, have any of tried doing a vmware to native from windows. I think it will help solve some of ur booting errors.

First, my Hardware:

Asus P5B Deluxe

Sata DVD-RW Samsung

Conroe 6600

I´ve tried to install OSX 10.4.7 (Jas) and 10.4.6

It boots form the cd but the sreen (with apple logo) freezes an nothing happens.

I´ve changed my Bios settings. First it was IDe then AHCI but noway....everytime the same error.

I dont know if there are other Biossettings that i may have to change.....

  • 5 months later...

i want to ask couple of question's about DQ6 mobo

1) i am using jas 10.4.8, it didn't recognize my ICH8 SATA drive, USB works.. but SATA did not (and i am sure of my bios settings)

2) did anyone noticed after doin some software or hardware changes made the audio not work perfectly and quicktime stopped working??? (quicktime runs, but it doest play anythng... it open's a safari window with a missing quicktime plugin icon!!!)

3) anyone made it successful to activate the mic in port? or line in... :hysterical:

4) can anyone guide me for my DQ6 MOBO and advice me what the best to do..

thanks

For ease of use get the JAS 10.4.8v1 DVD (thats the ppf'd patched dvd). It works flawlessly, the first release didn't work as well.

sound output works after the alc888 patch (check the wiki i made an entry)

mic line in doesn't work

plug your sata drive into the 1st ich8 port (the one closest to the ide)

plug your dvd drive into the ide port

put a stick of ram in

remove anything else not needed

Bios is important as you know. go into integrated peripherals set ahci to enabled, set everything below it to enabled as far as i remember. Turn the jmicron to ide mode.

This technique works on my GA-965P-DQ6 with E6300 cpu

i've since overclocked the cpu to 3.15 ghz and its stable in both OSX and XP

first u need to set up in your bios ide mode to "compatible" (not enhanced)

second u need to get an external usb dvd drive. then u will install mac os with any probs :thumbsdown_anim:
