  1. I am really surprised this has not been addressed before. Does a 13" 3.5lb hackintoshable laptop even exist? Someone actually asked this question on engadget but they not a single post I read addressed the fundamental question. I know there are many thin and lights out there from Asus, Acer, Dell, Sony, etc, but which one is actually Snow Leopard worthy?
  2. [How to] Asus P5K-VM guide

    Thanks DB1. It worked perfectly!
  3. [How to] Asus P5K-VM guide

Please can someone post 18seven's boot method (or any other method) for installing the bootloader for booting off the GPT partition? The msiwind.net forums has been down for a number of days now so I can't get the info from there. I am also hoping to reclaim the space on the usb stick that I am boot from at the moment. Thanks so much!
  4. [How to] Asus P5K-VM guide

Many thanks for DB1 for posting the updated guide. Everything is now working fine. No QE though, as running chess will give me a kernel panic. I'd like to make a custom dsdt but am a little afraid to do it. Is there a detail guide somewhere to show how to do this? The other thing I'd like to have is to boot off of the HD instead of the USB stick. All the guides I've seen seem to need the HD to have a MBR partition, but my HD is already GPT. From what DB1 is saying it seems like the 18seven method would work for me, but somehow the msiwind.net forum is not working right now. Can someone post the detailed 18seven method here? Thanks much!
  5. iDeneb v1 10.5.4

I just installed iDeneb v1 10.5.4 on my system and everything seems to work until I discovered that the system would not boot unless I have the DVD in the drive! If I leave the DVD in and let the system get to the point where it says "press any key to boot from DVD", but allow it to time out and boot from the HD, then it is fine. All attempts to boot directly from the HD results in a "boot1: error". Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? I am banging my head against the wall. I followed the installation instructions to format the drive with MBR (it was already with mbr) and HFS+ entended. My mobo is a asus p5k-vm and a geforce 7600gt 256mb. Dyzan in this thread has successfully installed it on a p5k-vm with no problems... Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  6. [How to] Asus P5K-VM guide

Can someone post a quick tutorial on how to get this board working with leopard? My previous partition leopard install worked almost completely with my new p5k-vm, but I had to delete the Extensions.mkext every time I reboot otherwise it would hang during boot. Out of desperation I "upgraded" the partition with ToH and now it simply gets to a blue screen with a working cursor but nothing else happens. Please help!!! Thanks!
  7. [How to] Asus P5K-VM guide

I just got my p5k-vm and ran into the same problem. I finally found the answer in the GA-965P-DS3 thread (it uses the same 88E8056 chip). Basically you edit the /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleYukon2.kext/Contents/Info.plist, but you don't need to if you use the P5KVM-LEO kexts from an earlier post (they are pre-edited). You then do the usual chown and deletion of Extensions.mkext and reboot. Here's the trick though (from Conroe Mac in the 965P-DS3 thread): After rebooting your LAN might not be working yet and showing up as disconnected. Do the following. - Go to System Preferences, Click on the network icon. - On the left pane select your ethernet, on the right pane where it says "Configure" select "off". - Click apply. - Now back to "Configure" select "Using DHCP". Click apply. - Your LAN should be working by now. Good luck!
  8. ASrock Conroe945G-DVI

Yes I tried it and yes it installed fine without patching. However, I did an upgrade from 10.4.7. Didn't test whether it would work with a fresh install on a blank partition. Good luck!
  9. [How to] Asus P5K-VM guide

There are reports that the Leopard GM has a x3100 driver on it. Anyone try it out on the p5k-vm to see if it works for the gma3100? Thanks!
  10. Install OSX86 on Gigabyte G33M-DS2R

according to this link GMA X3100 Leopard has a driver for the GMA X3100!!! Maybe, just maybe that will work with the g33m-ds2r and the Asus p5k-vm.
  11. Install OSX86 on Gigabyte G33M-DS2R

Great, thanks so much for the info!
  12. Install OSX86 on Gigabyte G33M-DS2R

SkyZ, could you post the links for getting all the stuff working on the p5k-vm? I would really appreciate it, as would a lot of people here. Thanks!

For the cooler, I have Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro. It works pretty well for me. It's a bit huge so make sure your case fits, but with the 92mm fan it's pretty quiet. As for the video, I don't think the x3100 works under OS X yet, so you'll have to buy a separate card. As synaesthesia said, a Nvidia 7xxx series will work well. I'm looking at the evga 7600gt from newegg. With the $20 paypal coupon, it will be a sweet deal. Could I ask you a few questions? First, which CPU do you have and how much are you overclocking the FSB to? Also, what firewire audio are you using and are you booting into WinXP on a different disk? I guess I'm a little confused why you need to set to AHCI to ide. This sounds like it's getting to be a great little boad! Thanks!
  14. 10.4.9 Update - Common Questions and Answers

I've just installed 10.4.9 (with Jas 10.4.8 and then updating) and I'm having the same problem with the system clock running too fast. Has this problem been solved yet? Please help!!! Thanks so much.
  15. Has anyone been able to get the p5k-vm working? I would really appreciate a report on this board. Seems like a good board with very good overclocking abilities. And it is cheaper than the gigabyte G33M-DS2R! Thanks so much!
