tgoose
Fedora Core 6 probably looks the most polished from screenshots and videos, but since the DVD wouldn't install on my laptop (maybe misburnt or something), I couldn't say what it's like in practice! I can, it was as polished or more than mandriva 2007 (my current favorite if you havnt noticed) but it didnt have the drivers etc that i love in 2007 powerpack... other than that it was at least as good as suse (for another more commonly used linux distro to relate it to) slightly better, but the powerpack. i cant get over it. my1stmacisaHACK
Hi, dreamlinux uses a window manager that looks almost identical to os x. and i'm sure you'd be able to use the 3g ntfs drivers in it too. here are some screenies : http://www.dreamlinux.com.br/english/saiba-screen.html as for the drivers, depending on what card you have, you can just go to the ati website and download the linux drivers and install them. if you install them manually you can even get xgl running. https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default...amp;folderID=27 goodluck, Dragon does it work with xgl/compiz
(MoC)
I just like the Slackware Distros. I polish my own UI, not some dev at the company. This distro is so stable and everything works.
aPpLeFrEaKpEePs
Fedora core roccks Use Fedora core 6.. u can use AIGLX with Compiz/beryl natively if you have a Intel/Nvidia graphics card.. for ATI nes no support via the proprietary fglrx driver for r500+ seriies yet.. so u can use the OSS radeon driver and use AIGLX (upto r400) or use XGL for now.. till ATI rleases AIGLX compliant fglrx drivers.. But fc is the most stable, polished, easy to use, configurable distro I have personally seen.
Mebster
Can I take us back to the question on the topic *nix O/S that feels polished like OSX?
asap18
KDE seems to be the most "advanced" desktop is thats what you're meaning by "polished". Ubuntu would make you feel polished, although i feel Gentoo is the most polished in the end since it can be customized to each of your needs. DiaboliK
fo me, the linux n00b, ive been using Dreamlinux 2.2 Multimedia Edition GL with BERYL and AIGLX. its pretty slick and very OS X like. i just use it for fun and experimentation and maybe some codec dumps (for Taruga's Patchers ) give it a shot : http://www.epron.com.br/dreamlinux/viewtopic.php?t=1091 or the original Dreamlinux w/o BERYL : http://www.dreamlinux.com.br/english/download.html
asap18
that actually looks half decent as a desktop. How's its package manager? Is the performance better than OS X?
