hi Mohamed Khairy!

which "boot" do you suggest me for my:

thx a lot for your work! ;)

the easy way is to use kabyl boot so you can change framebuffer without entering mac

so use it and try all frambuffer

and working one add it boot.plist or

you can use one of mine bootloader with the name of working frambuffer for you

i'm asking to use your boot because i'm getting low low performance with my hd 5870.

i'm using kabyl boot, and i didnt set any framebuffer, so i dunno which i'm using!!

and looking into /extra/com.apple.boot.plist i didnt see it !!!!

Thats why i'm having low performance? because i didnt set it at boot or in boot.plist?

most common framebuffer for 5870 are Vervet, Uakari and Zonalis, correct?

and i have to set it when i boot with: AtiFb=name

thast correct?

sorry to make all these questions...i'm only trying to get better results with 5870,

while other getting better results with 5770...maybe i have to change card?

thx again for your time!! :)

performance not related to injector

it is related to drivers

and some bench mark give false result when changing some details

ok so we have to wait for better driver?

Just one thing, which version of chameleon i have to use?

Currently i have v2.0 RC5 r486,

if its not correct, can you plz point me to which one i have to use?

cause i found:

RC5-r518

RC5-r599

RC5-r602

thx again for your patience :)

Is there any way to install this with ##### + Chameleon?

I am not very experienced and I am not sure how to install all of the features that ##### installs AND Chameleon.

When I go to the <customize> menu in Chameleon, which options do I select to get this to work?

Hey Mohamed

I just tried the boot you made for me and it works flawlessly! All 6 mini DPs on my 5870 2GB Eyefinity showing up and working. 64bit mode too. Awesome! Only thing I need to figure out now is to reduce the fan speed.

Keep up the good work!

EDIT: I'll be able to test it with 3-4 screens soon.

all i got with this flag at boot was:

read HFS+ file: [hd(0,2)/Extra/DSDT.aml]

Using PCI-Root-UID value: 0

ATI VGA Controller [1002:6898] : : PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x3,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)

old pci command - 7

boot display - 0

dumping pci config space, 256 bytes

looking for ati bios file /Extra/1002_6898.rom

then quickly black screen and 100% fan,

without any pause.

file have to be "1002_6898.rom" and not "1002_6898.ROM" (UPPERCASE) correct?

(thx to clonezilla restored)

what do you think??

thx

follow topic it contain how to install

Thanks so much for your quick response Mohamed. I guess my question is more about the details of the installation.

Step by step for me on a 5870

1- Install SL 10.6.3 using #####-ATI

2- update to 10.6.4

3- install chameleon RC5-r602 What options do I have to check?

4-replace boot file on root by Uakari (to start)

5- add the following code to com.apple.boot.plist

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>arch=x86_64</string>
<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>UseAtiROM</key>
<string>Yes</string>

I have to add "<string>arch=x86_64</string>" right?

6- rename my gpu bios to "1002_6898.rom"

7-paste this bios on extra folder

7a- install and run kext utility to repair permissions

8- restart -> Black Screen and Full Speed Fans

8a - Boot using #####-ATI and try to use each of the 30 framebuffers then repair permissions and restart, until one works?

9-install GFX update 1.0

Please look at the bold parts and tell me if I'm doing it right

if you want it work with my bootlaoder

or you can continue with kabyl boot

and trust me there are not diff on performace when you change bootloader

but if you have time no problem to test all framebuffers

just select bootloader standard and themes

and no need for arch=x86-64

and if you dont know which framebuffer work for you try kabyl bootloader as you can change framebuffer by flag so you just try all frambuffer and it will take small time to get it works

OK so should I'm also selecting GraphicsEnabler=Yes because it generates the com.apple.boot.plist...

In com.apple.boot.plist I should be adding lines that read:

<key>AtiFb</key>
<string>Vervet</string>

and

<key>AtiFb</key>
<string>Uakari</string>

etc... until one works?

you can type during booting

AtiFb=.............

and when you know which frambuffer works add it to boot.plist as you did :)

or use my boot with frambuffer works with you
