ATI 5850 - Achieving HDMI audio

Has anyone done it that knows how they did it?

 

I haven't seen any indication that anyone is 100% about how to achieve HDMI audio. Tmongol seems to have a solution for Nvidia, but is there any HDMI audio for the ATI 5850?

 

I know that it will come, but has anybody got a working solution until the easy breezy [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] GUI method arrives?

I can edit a DSDT with specific instructions, but that is as far as I can go.

I don't know how to do hexadecimal stuff like reading the device ID from windows and etc...

yeah it would be cool, but it is unlikely that I'll get a reply except for "Hey, why don't you go figure it out for yourself!"

Dude, I was helping you on Tonymac. Just chill and go to the hardware section. Not everyone who has the right setup has Audio working. I have it and I got it through VoodooHDA, no edits or anything. I tried AppleHDA but no luck, so someone is helping me out a bit. Just keep searching and searching and reading. I bet if you ask the right people, they will take out of their time to help you out.

 

And also...I'm quite sure he's not following you. 90% of us that read different posts, are doing to learn new things that we didn't know before. Trying to find information by reading miscellaneous topics, etc. That's what I am doing right now. Looking at misc. things. But when we see someone (not meaning you exactly), posting questions about things that are just around the corner, it's kind of irritating but we still help. In a different post I gave you a link that answered the first question you had. I didn't give you the others hoping the fact that the first answer right below the thread would tell ya 'hey, that was right there, what else is in here.' Not trying to be a chode but SEARCH!!! If it's ever been stated even once on the net, it can be found.

 

Back to the matter at hand. VoodooHDA is the best option for getting HDMI audio if you don't have the required patches in your DSDT. It stinks with the white noise in the background, but it does work. AppleHDA can work but requires DSDT patching.

You PM'd me and told me it was pretty much luck, this and that, kill_mark drivers, and not sure. I'm happy for you, truly. Kill Mark told me he doesn't know if he has HDMI audio, he's just using his drivers for video. You told me that you thought his drivers gave you your audio. You don't know how you did it, but you're acting like I asked a question that's been asked a hundred times.

 

Maybe it is VoodooHDA that is working for you, but I am using a DSDT and don't know enough about what to delete to get Voodoo working for me, also the white noise noise issue isn't really something I want to tangle with.

 

Tmongol's post may or may not be of any use to me. He's not clear on whether his instructions apply to ATI. In one area he says definitively NO, but in another area he talks about ATI HDMI audio (vaguely).

And, you've got a 5770 which is a different situation that mine. I'm not going to toss a build that is working 100% sans HDMi audio, which is why I am continuing to seek a verified solution. There is not a thread which has already posted one. So, I don't know what has got you so insane about "search and ye shall find, heathen!"

And no, I don't get upset over posts on the Internet. I have 5 kids, there's more important things to be upset about, trust me.

 

The point is, one word... Search. If it doesn't work, Search harder. None of us are geniuses(lol that's a word?), that's why something that worked for me can work for you.
