For the record, I am now running hackintosh on this mobo. I accidentally booted off an old 10.5.8 install from a completely different mobo, cpu, and video card, and it still booted! I haven't looked into how many of the devices worked, but at least it booted and ran well, so that's good. This mobo rocks. Also for the record, it shuts down from desktop to black sliences in 1.8 seconds. Simply unreal.

Hi:

Please let me know how you do with this Mobo, I've just ordered it and want to run hackintosh.

THanks,

Hoping to do a build from scratch next weekend. Looking to update then on things like what snow leopard thinks of the sata3 and usb3 ports.

I'm also quite interested in making my new UD7 into a sibling to my macbook pro and powerbook!!!! So please post any pertinent details... :)

I tried following these instructions:

http://lifehacker.com/5351485/how-to-build...finish#hardware

and I think it may have been working (from my thumb drive light activity) but I received an "unsupported mode" message on the monitor I was using during boot (my LCD TV was all I had handy) so I can't be sure until I obtain an alternate monitor - could have also been due to the ATI5750 video card I am using....might have to buy an older ATI or NVIDIA card that is more 'tosh friendly

Anyway, this is an absolutely fabulous mobo (even though I despise windows). I have it cruising along at 4.2GHz rock solid at ~ 35-38C idle temps (using a cooler master Hyper N 520 and a cooler master 922HAF case with optional side fan) - I'm sure I would have been able to crank it up a bit more but I was on a budget and found a great deal on OCZ DDR3/1600 so I'm limited by my memory speed....

According to this most everything should work:

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...10.6.2#Gigabyte

I still need to get sound and qc/qe working though I believe both are due to my graphics card...

The mobo is sweet though! I'm up to 4.3Ghz on air :hysterical: with mid 30C idle temps and max spec voltages...probably as far as I can push it without major tweaking...

Good luck!

Did you manage to get audio working without VoodooHDA?

(using dsdt+legacy kext?)

Hey brother,

I have almost everything on this motherboard functioning perfectly, except the SATA 6.0Gb/s and USB 3.0 ports obviously, because Marvell and NEC need to release OS X drivers for those in order for them to work (which is not happening anytime soon, nor do I care about using those features under OS X, since they run better under Windows 7 anyway).

Also, audio is still not working for me. However, I am working towards fixing this via DSDT for a complete vanilla install, but I need the help and support of all EVGA motherboard owners to do this, because they have been able to use LegacyHDA.kext plus a simple DSDT patch to get audio working on their motherboards, which uses the same Realtek ALC889 chipset. I will write a guide for this motherboard as soon as this major obstacle has been overcome.

Here are a few threads that I have started to tackle the audio issue:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=207057

Please help me bump both of those threads, so we can get this major issue wrinkled out as soon as possible. Your support is greatly appreciated.

The same audio device maybe work for MSI and EVGA users

but I can't make it work on Gigabyte

I tried various dsdt codes but I always get the same sound assertion errors

I can get system profiler to show the sound outputs/inputs correct but no output device under preferences panel.

Hey Cybex, I tried the package from kexts.com and it help me cut down on the number of kexts that I use, but audio still does not work. Any suggestions? I really appreciate your help.

I finally got sound! I used Tonymac's DSDT, etc. and Extras:

http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2009/12/ins...ectly-from.html

and replaced his sound kext with HDAEnabler.kext and LegacyHDA.kext and voila! I'm also using ApplePS2Controller.kext and AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext to drive my ps2 KB & mouse. Sleep doesn't work though....

Now I just need to get a compatible video card for QE/QC

Hey guys! I'm new to this forum and I really need your help...

I have the same gigabyte x58a-ud7 motherboard with a i7 core 920 and gskill 2000mhz trident and a sata asus dvd drive.... and for the life of me I just cannot get ANY distros or any retail leopard cds to fully load as it ALWAYs just reboots the computer 10 secs after its starts to load.

I tried booting with the iatkos v7 or GigabyteCD for osx86 and they all initially load but just goes straight to reboot even if i put the commands -v or -x or cpus=1 or -s etc etc...

What am I missing here?

ALL the sata drives are set to AHCI including the sata dvd drive..... :)

Please give me some advice....

Thanks in Advance!

Ford.

Thank you jamzmar for that suggestion.... I have tried that CD/DVD loading method and it still rebooted my system before it even loads the installation screen....

May I know what important bios settings to made to your gigabyte x58a-ud7 to allow this to work?

was there any settings I need to disable or enable other than AHCI for sata HD and DVD drives?

I'm still working on 5.1-7.1 no luck 2.1 is fine maybe when the next update 10.3 we mite have some sucess.

As of now I have 5 kewts in extra. system is running fine...

What 5 kexts are you using? Is that with shutdown/restart, sleep, audio, etc. working? Are you only using RealtekR1000SL.kext in S/L/E or anything else? What DSDT are you using? Booting via? (USB? CD? what boot file/method?)? Do you mind posting your com.apple.Boot.plist, smbios.plist, and DSDT?

I have everything but sleep working but more than 5 kexts (8 plus 2 for PS2 support)....

Thanks!

THANK you so much jamzmar! I used GigabyteUSB image with a retail copy of snow leopard restored on a usb (rather than a dvd) and it WORKED!!

So in the end i finally realised that the issue of the rebooting may have been to do with the not compatible SNOWOSX86 distro and the iAtkos v7.

Thank you!

However, i have a powercolor radeon hd 4870x2 and at the moment, the resolution is stuck on 1024x768, do I need to patch it somehow? with some netkas kexts or something?

btw...jamzmar, thank you for your efforts in uploading an image of your bios! ;)
