Clausewitz
Hello - this is my first time posting here. I am currently assembling my first hackintosh and will be doing the cakewalk installation onto a EX58-UD5 mobo. trwoolley and others seem to have a positive experience with this one. As I am an absolute novice to hackintoshes and building PCs in general, I am trying to make everything as simple as possible (hence my interest in the Cakewalk method). So I have a softball for the pros: Q: I want to install Win 7 after I've gone through the setup process outlined in the Cakewalk guide. This will be on a separate drive. Will I need any additional bootloaders, software, etc. in order to do this? The guides on this subject I have read may as well be in another language. Also, for anyone interested, I will be experimenting with using a Rosewill RNX-N2X wireless ethernet USB adapter in 64-bit mode. I will surely post somewhere if that works out for me. Thanks in advance! toldi
I've just encountered an interesting problem that I hope someone can help me with. I installed Snow Leopard and used Kakewalk for my EP45-UD3LR motherboard. Everything worked fine but then I did a combined update from apple and i've now lost all input/output audio devices. Does anyone know how I can get these back? Thanks in advance Seam You have to install new ALC888 kexts from kexts.com. byjohnson
OK so I've followed the instructions in the guide and prepared my usb flash drive with osx retail and kakewalk, but when the flash drive is plugged into the computer it freezes on the gigabyte screen and won't let me access anything. Not sure if I messed something up in the bios but I can't seem to get it figured out. Any help would be appreciated and I can provide more information if needed. Thanks. the_gael
mrjanek- I believe I am right in thinking that in Kakewalk, Nullcpumanagement.kext is not installed as there is an issue with it clashing with Sleepenabler.kext. The reason I ask is that after a clean install of the latest Kakewalk, then a combo update to 10.6.3 - I installed Nullcpumanagement and my machine works the best and coolest it ever has. I was so delighted with it I thought I would install the latest Sleepenabler.kext for 10.6.3 to see if the problems it caused were small enough that I could live with it. I now have both kexts installed, my machine is working great, sleep works perfectly and I have not experienced any problems. My machine is using UD3LR. So my question is, if I am right that Nullcpumanagement.kext was not originally used what was the problem it caused with sleepenabler.kext? I would like to know so that i can look out for that specific issue. calle
Anil: thanks again, I did the usb-installation instead, and it worked perfectly. Now all that's left to fix is the BLACK SCREEN I'm welcomed with when I update to 10.6.3 (Radeon HD4870 graphics) Does anyone know how to fix this? Am I right in thinking the Flash Drive is plugged into the computer and the screen freezes during the boot process? Is the bios set to boot from USB Flash? is USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 enabled in the Bios? EDITED to add Did you format the Flash Drive exactly as in the instructions? Step 2 - Formating and partitioning your thumb drive 1. Insert your thumb drive and start Disk Utility if you closed it. 2. Select the drive in the left pane and click the Partition button in the right pane 3. In the Volume Scheme drop-down menu select 1 partition and insert a name for the partition (eg. Hackintosh) 4. Next select Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) from the Format drop-down 5. Click Options select the GUID Partition Table option and click OK 6. Hit Apply! Can you enter BIOS setup by pressing delete as the machine is booting? If you can - is the Bios recognising the the USB Flash Drive? invisiblesurfer
Can someone offer some help with this please? Thank you! KERNEL PANIC ON SHUT DOWN Hi folks can someone throw a helping hand on this thing I am having. It all started two nights ago when I shut down my hackmack (EX58-UD3R, i7 920, 6GB RAM, 10.6.3) - it took quite some time to do so as opposed to the 3-4seconds it usually takes so I used the power button to shut it down. Last night I got back on my hackmack and everything was normal - I completely forgot about that issue I had the previous night. So at the end of the day I did Apple-> Shut down it gave a grey screen KP. I installed OSX the Kakewalk way (hence the post here) and I was wondering what might have caused it, if anyone else has had similar issues in the past, and any ideas on fixing it. Thanks all in advance. byjohnson
Without the usb flash drive plugged in I can access bios. When it is plugged in it just freezes and won't allow me to access anything. It must be something with the flash drive. I'm using a Powerbook G4 with os x 10.4.11, when I tried to partition the flash it got stuck on creating the partition map. Tried several times with disk utillity before using ipartition. Maybe the mac I'm using it just too old... not sure what else to try other than using a newer mac to partition the drive. hoskoau
When I installed SL everything worked fine except the resolution was low due to my 4890, so I used the ATI installer that came with Kakewalk and I had full functionality of my 4890. Then I used the combo updater to 10.6.3 which installed fine except I was back to the low resolution, I tried to use the ATI installer again except it gave a warning saying it was not compatible with this version of SL. I tried using the exotic package from Netkas but when it restarted the screen was all scrambled so I rolled back to 10.6.0 and everything is working again. Is there a newer version of the ATI installer?? schmoppa
I am having trouble with the install. I burned a CD, using the KakewalkCD program. I selected my motherboard (EX58-UD5) and it created an ISO on the destkop. I burned a CD from that ISO (on my Macbook Pro). I just assembled my new tower, but I have the EX58-UD5 with an OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD and a 1.5TB Seagate HDD. The BIOS can see all the drives. I set the CD Drive to be the first boot device. I stick the Kakewalk CD into the drive and boot up. I get to the medium grey screen with "Kakewalk" at the top, and the 4 steps: 1. Eject 2. Insert SL DVD 3. Wait to spin up. press F5 4. Select Disk and press enter. So I do this - eject Kakewalk, insert SL DVD (a "full" SL family pack), hit F5 (and see the disk icon label changes to Mac OS X Install DVD), and then hit enter. If I arrow down, I get some options starting with Boot, Boot Verbose ... down to Video Info and Help. But I just select the disk, not any of the sub options. I get a lighter grey screen with a white Apple logo, then a large power icon with a dark grey rectangle overlaying it, with the text in 5 languages saying "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again." I reboot with SL in the drive and after posting, verifying DMI Pool Data, tries to Boot from CD/DVD: But then says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER". so I stick kakewalk back in... And I appear to be back where I started! What am I doing wrong? I tried the Verbose Boot option. It appears to hang... At some point it says: From path: "uuid" Waiting for boot volume with UUID CB666CF -etc etc Waiting on <dict ID="0"><key>IOProviderClass</key><string ID="1">IOResources</string><key>IOResourcematch</key><string ID="2">boot-uuid-media</string></dict> netkas presents fakesmc, a kext which emulates smc device panic(cpu 3 caller 0xffffff80002cbf74): Kernal trap at 0xffffff7f80762e5d, type 14=page fault, registers: CR0: 0x000 etc, CR2 (etc) CR3 etc CR4 etc etc etc ... ... I have 3 x 2GB sticks of memory. the SDD and HDD, as well as the optical drive plugged into the mobo via sata. a GTS 250 video card. Haven't overclocked anything. Is there something in the bios of the EX58-UD5 I need to adjust? Do I need to update the bios at all? drlazy
Hi schmoppa, If I were you I would do three things: 1. Re burn the Kakewalk CD just to make sure nothing went wrong during the burning process. (Read the guide on how to do the burning process even if you know how). 2. Load BIOS defaults and set the BIOS according to Kakewalk guide. If that doesn't work try to update your BIOS. 3. Disconnect any peripheral device that is connected to your computer before you start install. I hope that helps you. If it still doesn't work you can try tonymacx86 ##### disk: http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=197 And his ##### utility (for post Install setup): http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=401 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195248-kakewalk-minimal-effort-install-ep45-ex58-p55-g41/page/89/#findComment-1445524 Share on other sites

Anil K Solanki
Hello, Thanks to mrjanek I have a very fast, fully functioning Hackintosh. I was wondering if it's possible/advisable to update the BIOS? I am currently at version F9 on my GA-EX58-UD5 MoBo. The Gigabyte website has a much newer version, F12 of the BIOS. Is it safe to update, or will I need a new DSDT? And possibly mess up my working machine? My apologies in advance if this is a dumb-ass question, I am new to this brave new world. Regards, Anil. schmoppa
Thanks for the help. I admit that I did not follow the instructions in the guide downloaded with the kakewalk ISO app. In my (late-night, bleary-eyed) defense, the instructions on the first post simply said: CD/DVD Method: 1. Burn Kakewalk.iso to a disc. 2. Boot from the disc. Follow onscreen instructions. Install Snow Leopard. 3. Install KakewalkBoot.pkg from BootCD 4. You're up and running! So I did not think to do step 2.5 which is "read the guide ..." thank you! I set the bios settings (though too lazy / tired at this point to remove memory) and I am at the first install screen to choose language! THANKS! schmoppa
I am up and running! My Ex58-UD5 seems to be on the internet fine so far, though one of the ports I had trouble with; the second just started working fine. My question now is, do I need to fool around with kexts and the like? Or did Kakewalk take care of everything for me? How will I know if I need to find a specific kext to add? Finally, what's the method for updating to 10.6.3? I assume I don't do a normal system upgrade. Sound is working, by the way. hoskoau
Love the taste of sweet success. I have 10.6.3 up and running and my 4890 is working. Life doesn't get much better then this I used the exotic.pkg and fix.pkg from Netkas site. I actually had to install both packages after I rebooted the 10.6.3 upgrade or I got a garbled screen. Just a quick question is there a way to install a graphical bootloader like Chameleon without losing the Kakewalk functionality. I don't really like the DOS looking one that comes standard.
