eh eh! you're right. my pc rig has no win on it but I extracted it from my old laptop. Bios update worked like a charm. Where is the time when it was soo risky to flash the bios ? : p

That could be usefull but I guess I know the theory about permissions.

I use Onyx for cleaning/maintenance purpose (not often on the mac) and I know how to repair permissions in theory but Where will I have to repair the permissions? on the thumbdrive after I replaced the dsdt.aml ?

OK :P

Ichixgo... you rock.

I've red threads about DSDT and I think it would be best to put it on the DSDT.

My gfx card is an ASUS 7300 GT Silent with 256 Mb and DVI + VGA conectors.

And once again, a huge thanx for the help ; )

EDIT : I updated the mobo bios to F9a.

The corsair 8 Gb thumbdrive is patched with the LH EP45 UD3P package so i'm ready to go further.

hehe i miss that good ol' time ; ) when you had to cross fingers before every biosflash ^^

hm kk i will set up a script for you : ) or a short tuto ^^

i hope your bios update worked : )

don't forget to set the bios right up : )))

here is your DSDT ^^

ready for F9a and your graphic : )

dsdt_for_ep45_ud3_w_7300_gt.zip

Just use PC EFi v10.3 and all You need to do for graphics and ethernet is to add this in com.apple.Boot.plist.

<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>

<string>y</string>

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>y</string>

That's really cool

thanks Ichixgo ; )

Actually You didn't miss anything : p

I just added a "raw" DSDT for the EP45-UD3 (BIOS F9a) including all Fixes (Time Machine, Local0, WAK, DGPT, MUTE, RTC, HPET, Aliases, GP9, HDEF Audio)

zip.gif EP45_UD3_DSDT.zip ( 6.48K ) Number of downloads: 0

I suppose that you used this DSDT to patch mine ?

Then it's done. I replaced the dsdt on the thumbdrive. I guess that I'm ready to install the stuff now and the 'permission repair operation' comes when the install is done ?

no prob ^^

ehm you need to fix the permission on the dsdt before

just exchange the dsdt on the thumbdrive for the new one. ^^

then open terminal ^^

type "sudo -s" hit enter. type your admin password. hit enter ^^

afterwards type "cd " then drag the Extra folder from the thumbdrive into terminal.

then it will say something like this --> cd /Volumes/Thumbdrive/Extra

then hit enter ^^

just to be sure now type "ls" and hit enter

then it should list all the files in the extra folder ^^

afterwards just type "chmod -R 755 dsdt.aml" hit enter

then type "chown -R root:wheel dsdt.aml" hit enter

you got it ^^

afterwards you can start installing : )

if something wents wrong with the start up of the install tell me ; )

good luck ^^

Ok...

Something weird happened... the "boot" file disapeared before I exchanged the DSDT file.

I'm rebuilding the thumbdrive from scratch now and I'll repair the permissions for the DSDT when the file exchange is done.

Will report as soon as I have something new (theorically, SL running fine on my rig)

The install process worked flawlessly.

I'm writting from the hack right now.

I installed 10.6.1 and the two current stuffs, no problem at all !!

The few issues i'm experiencing :

1 The OSX drive is hidden on the desktop... Do not understand why.

2 whenever i reboot the computer I have to retype the Bios settings in order to get it working. I mean that it seems to reset anytime I turn off the computer. Is it normal ?

3 I didn't installed the bootloader on the HD yet assuming I changed the dsdt from the initial UD3P pkg. So how do I install the bootloader on the HD ?

And many thanks again ;)

And many thanks again for this true painless procedure !

Try this one.

dsdt.aml.zip

Thanx,

Before I give a try on the next few days, what's the difference with ichixgo's ?

Oh and by the way: i'll give a try with a different disk because with my previous install tries, I experienced problems with the 74 Gb raptor... Will search on the forum but I'm pretty sure there is something wrong with this drive.

Thank you mm67!

You solved my Clear CMOS issue : )

It works just great except that I still don't have my main hard drivre on the desktop.

By default SL doesn't show hard drive icons on the desktop, you need to load finder prefs and turn on view HD's.

OK I didn't knew about it as I didn't yet installed SL on the macpro (music purpose) :(

I'm going to investigate. Apart from this point, so it seems to work fine.

Oh and I've got to mention that I changed the system freq to 400 (instead of 333) and used a 2x multiplier for the memory (2x400>800) and it seems to work as expected as 3.2 (instead of 2.66) without a glitch.

I also changed the smart fan control to enable > run in silence

Xbench 193 without disk and 163 with it... fair enough for the purpose : indesign and photoshop as main apps

Thank you mm67!

How do I copy the files from the thumbdrive to the hard drive ? Assuming it's not the same DSDT in the ud3P pkg, it's useless in this case, no ?

Hope this makes the hard drive icon thing clear to You. And this dsdt.aml has nothing to do with UD3P, this is only for UD3.

Yep, sooo noob question :shame:

so to achieve this perfect install :

How do I transfer the boot and extra files from the thumbdrive to the hard drive ?

Is a simple copy ok or should I go through the LH first guide and do all the terminal stuff (but on the HD this time) ?

If You want to continue with this LH method then You can download the install package from his second guide, install it on your hard drive and then before rebooting replace his dsdt.aml with your new one.

Yep... That's what I was thinking about.

Actually, I see a lot of benefits to let the bootloader on the USB port > easily evolutive and let the HD untouched... wich seems to be (to me) the state of the art of OSX installation on a PC.

We're now very close to a smart, evolutive and real community based bootloader

I think i'm going to buy two more USB thumbdrives ( one for testing purpose with my own DSDT and another one for back up) as soon as I can take some time to understand how does it work.

Last question : what about the sound?

When I open the pref panel, I have no device detected.

Is there any chance to fix it with the dsdt or should I go through with kekt string ?

That is exactly what I do. Have two usb sticks for booting, one for testing new things and one for backup if testing something new doesn't go too well. Here is how my stick is organized, with this I can boot both Leopard and Snow Leopard.

With audio I can't help You, I use usb audio.

I followed the guide and have a ep45-ud3lr, and everything is running almost flawlessly. My only problem is that i cannot share anything over ethernet. I can connect to the internet, but sharing files doesn't work. In fact, it often will not detect the other computers on our network. Any ideas?

hey guys,

I'm just going to tell you how you can install SL retail on your EP45-UD3 with any graphic card supported by acpi patcher.

I followed the Lifehacker-Guide by Adam Pash (APPRECIATION) ---> LifehackerGuide

Just follow the Guide Step-by-Step. And don't worry if the screen wents dark during the installation. Just wait for it to complete and to restart. Then you should have your system up. Then just apply the two fixes explained at the end of the guide. So now if you want to get your graphics card work with qe/ci support just use ACPI Patcher as described in this post by blackosx DSDT Patching.

then in the process of patching your own dsdt you can add your graphic card as described in the pdf. Afterwards you just need to replace the existing DSDT.aml in your harddrive/extra folder and restart in order to gain qe/ci support. just one more hint don't try to get your graphic card running with efi strings while using the old DSDT from Lifehackers guide cause they will take no effect as long as the graphic card is enabled via DSDT.

if you are not familiar with patching a dsdt or you have any other questions just tell me and i'll support you.

Ichixgo,

I am looking to modify my DSDT file from Lifehackers tutorial and put a custom string for my video card and computer. I am sure this will fix quicktime freezing my monitor. I went here:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=177497

I found the Koalala’s ACPI Patcher application but it is a PC application. I need a version that will work with my Hackintosh since I don't have PC running on my Hack. Where can I find the Mac version of this Application so that I can edit my DSDT File?

as i remember there was a script on the page i linked. with this you can create a dsdt under mac os with the terminal. otherwise you could also just install vm ware or parallels and to it under this trivial windows ^^

thanks a lot for your advices mm67 ^^

made some test last night :

- upgrade to BIOS f9a

- replace my DSDT file that was generated by my installer, by yours :

(my config is stable and not problem)

=> the video is stuck at 1024x768. i can't change it in the preferences, there is no other choices. does your DSDT file include stuff about video drivers ? i thought that cham RC3 was handling that now

=> my bios gets defaults value when rebooting. the restart made the comp to shut-down. so i'm guessing that there is somthing in your dsdt that does that.

Do you have UD3 rev 1.0 or 1.1 ?

Try this one with Chameleon RC3
