hey guys,

I'm just going to tell you how you can install SL retail on your EP45-UD3 with any graphic card supported by acpi patcher.

I followed the Lifehacker-Guide by Adam Pash (APPRECIATION) ---> LifehackerGuide

Just follow the Guide Step-by-Step. And don't worry if the screen wents dark during the installation. Just wait for it to complete and to restart. Then you should have your system up. Then just apply the two fixes explained at the end of the guide. So now if you want to get your graphics card work with qe/ci support just use ACPI Patcher as described in this post by blackosx DSDT Patching.

then in the process of patching your own dsdt you can add your graphic card as described in the pdf. Afterwards you just need to replace the existing DSDT.aml in your harddrive/extra folder and restart in order to gain qe/ci support. just one more hint don't try to get your graphic card running with efi strings while using the old DSDT from Lifehackers guide cause they will take no effect as long as the graphic card is enabled via DSDT.

if you are not familiar with patching a dsdt or you have any other questions just tell me and i'll support you.

I just added a "raw" DSDT for the EP45-UD3 (BIOS F9a) including all Fixes (Time Machine, Local0, WAK, DGPT, MUTE, RTC, HPET, Aliases, GP9, HDEF Audio)

Hey! Glad to hear someone got the Lifehacker install to work. I have the same motherboard and cannot seem to get my computer to boot from the USB drive!

Comp internals:

GeForce 9800GT 512mb DRR3

Intel Core2 Quad 2.83 Socket LGA775

WD Harddrive 1 TB (partitioned)

I'm using an 8gb Ativa thumb drive. I went through the BIOS steps and made the hard disk boot priority the USB Drive and kept 1st/2nd Boot Device as HDD. My computer would say cannot detect any HDD etc, and kind of freeze up. What I am missing to boot from my thumb drive? Thanks in advance!!!!!

there are two possible solutions for your problem i think.

the first one is your usb stick might be incompatible to be used as a boot device. cause quite a few people reported this in correspondence with ep45-ud3/l/r boards.

the second might be just to try the boot selection. just press F12 at start up so the pop-up-boot-selection-menu appears there u have to search for the name of your stick or just try usb-hdd.

if this doesn't work for you you could also try to use a real usbhdd instead of the stick i used one as well cause they are way faster and i didn't have a usbstick as huge ; )

or you would have to try a different smbios cause of your cpu. but just try the things i mentioned before then report ^^

Thanks for this post - it's nice to hear someone ask if anybody has any questions! I think I'll take you up on that offer!

I also followed the lifehacker guide with the same core system specs, except I'm using the onboard ethernet ports on the motherboard. Everything is running smoothly...EXCEPT: Time Machine does not function. It counts down to the next backup, but as soon as it reaches zero it just starts the countdown over again without making the backup.

It seems that so many people have had similar issues with Time Machine after installing 10.6 on a UD3P, but I've yet to find claims that anybody has solved the issues. There are many suggestions out there, but I don't know which one to follow.

One of the suggestions involves DSDT patching. Do you think this would solve my issue? I'm willing to try, but I really need to be talked through the process. I've read some of the instructions for patching DSDT, but they tend to assume a lot of knowledge that I don't think I have.

Can you tell me where I would start with this process?

Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

Ichixgo,

Thanks! I tried to install SL on my UD3P a couple of weeks ago using LifeHackers guide, but did not get very far. I want to give it another go now that he has simplified things, but I had a question about the graphics card (I don't have the nvidia 9800 GTX). I had actually asked Adam if I could use his method and then use something like EFI studio to insert a kext string for my nvidia 8500 GT video card, but never received a reply. I am a noob and this stuff is pretty obtuse.

So if I understand everything, I should be able to use your suggestion and ACPI patcher to create a custom DSDT.aml file. When using this method on the UD3P and having followed Adam's guide, do you also include the general, network and audio tabs in the ACPI patcher, or just ignore this and just specify the graphics card? Does this "overwrite" the DSDT file which I assume is generated using Adam's method?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

i wrote a mail to him myself but never got an answer.

ehm yeah I presume so. you need to patch your own dsdt. you understood the guide on the thread i linked ?

if you want audio and network to work as well you will have to add them cause they are also in the lifehacker dsdt. and then you can simply add your own graphic card or just leave it an add an efi stringt to the com.apple.boot.plist in the extra folder on your hdd.

if you have any question concerning the dsdt patch procress feel free to ask.

sry for the delay ; ) but i had to fix a problem of my own until now but now i got time to attend to yours ; )

ehm i can remember having read something about a time machine fix in dsdt via manual patching... but cannot remember exactly where but i will search for that.

right now i cannot tell you anything more cause i am not using time machine on my own hack atm. so i dont know whether the problem goes for me as well...

Ok. Thanks. So if I am following correctly, the only way to get a different graphics card to optimally work is to either make my own DSDT file with the ACPI patcher or to edit the one installed with the lifehacker build. I would like to get qe/ci support. Is there an easy way to drop a string for my video card into Adam's DSDT file? So efi studio won't do this? I have never compiled a DSDT file before, but the guide you refer to looks pretty straightforward.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to help!

Thanks for your reply. I just today purchased a pci network card. Let's see if this makes the difference.

so then report back pls if you have achieved any solution ^^or even not so we can search for another one

ehm yeah in one or another way you would have to compile your own. cause i tried to seperate the graphic part of adams dsdt but i could only make out where a part of it was not the whole thing. so its easier to compile a new one.

ehm the only decision you have to make is whether you want to implement your graphic via dsdt or efi string. but you have to compile a new dsdt this way or the other ; ) if you're using the exact same board as me i could provide you with a dsdt without graphic (cause i have to compile a new one as well ; ) ) so you would just have to add an efi string to /extra/com.apple.Boot.plist and exchange the dsdts.

So i have tried two seperate times to reply to this thread and it failed wtf? haha oh well. so i tried buying a new thumb drive (Corsair 8gb) and the it did not boot. then i tried using the boot menu doing the usb-hdd and again it did not work :-( so what is happening is i goes to the black screen with white letters and says a few things: this devise only supports hdd etc...and then it cannot detect any hdd. however the next screen says at the top USB Device: Corsair...etc. and below that it says Verying DMI Pool Data...and it just sits there stuck until i turn it off. I saw something in the bios that im not sure what to make of, it said HPET: 32bit, yet im running at the moment windows 7 64. should i change it to 64? Thanks again for all your help it is greatly appreciated!!!!

Alex

Followup from my network card test: no joy. For the record, the Dynamode NC-1000TX-G does not work with this installation. And adding it messed up my onboard enet ports, as well. I had to start from the beginning on the lifehacker guide (with the network card out of the picture) in order to get back to a working 10.6.

Do you think that patching the DSDT will work to get Time Machine running? If so, how do I do it?

sorry for not answering for one week. i had a lotta work to do.

yeah you should set HPET to 64bit. and you should also set on the usb legacy support and ahci mode für sata und onboard sata/ide controller. could you somehow make screenshots/photos of all your bios settings ? then i could give you an advise.

ehm maybe you should just try setting up your own dsdt with your specs. then you should try whether it works. tomorrow i can help you setting up a dsdt.

where is the graphic card part of the DSDT... I cannot use the patcher due to issues with windows, and have to patch by hand...

I use the UD3 also, but have had some issues with some things and needed to reinstall...

If you could, would you be able to patch a

EP45-UD3 (F8)

9800GT 512 DVI+VGA

I can add the RTC and 889a by hand later if you want...

yeah for sure but you will have to tell me the entries for your eth+audio out of ioexplorer ^^

then i can set up a dsdt for you

Yeah, i know, i was on my iphone at the time...

For convienience here are screenshots of audio, video and ethernet...

Video is a priority, ethernet does not matter but it would be good to have included. Audio i can do myself or you can do it...

If you need here are some more specific specs...

GA-EP45-UD3 Bios F8

NVidia (gigabyte) 9800GT 512 VGA, DVI, HDMI

889a

I have attached my DSDT.aml and dsl for use, as it is always best to use one from your own board... minor variations etc...

Thankyou so much!!!

Hello everybody,

I own a EP45 UD3. I tried several times to get a working Leo hackintosh last year without success.

I have an ASUS 7300 GT GFX card (DVI/VGA).

If I understand the thread, assuming I want to use this method (Lihacker's guide), I need :

1 DSDT.aml file compiled for the mobo

1 efi string for the gfx cadr added to the com.apple.Boot.plist

Is this correct ?

If yes, then how do I achieve my goals to get the cleanest install? I allready prepared my thumb but I just did the simple part (LH easy method) and I stick to this before doing anything else.

Do I need to install dsmos, Power management, platform UUID and OpenHaltRestart fixes as it is explianed in most of the tutos to get a working Install ?

Finally, will I have ethernet, sound, bonjour and dual screen support, all needed features ?

I'me really sorry for asking all that questions but I spent many painfull hours to get a working hack without success because english is not my native tongue and I do not understand everything in the installs/tutos guides >result i bought a used macpro for my main purpose (music) but I need another computer (my old PC) to get OSXed for my wife (gfx designer). Id' like a clean install from scratch in order to avoid failures encountered by distro users and and to minimise problems when updating from apple.

I'd be very thankfull for every kindof help from here :D

Best regards.

hey dude ^^

I set up several DSDTs for you to use.

the first ones are without the reboot fix because some people are reporting that their boards will just reboot and reset cmos ^^if you haven had any trouble just leave the ones with the patch ^^

and then i set up one using your old BIOS F8 and the new F9a.

concerning the F9a i can say it's a really amazing. the system is way faster and there are also a few new tweaks added in the bios. really love it. thanks to mm67 for the hint. ^^

so here are your dsdts.

first the ones without the cmos reset fix.

dsdt_f8_without_cmos_patch.zip

dsdt_f9a_without_cmos_patch.zip

then the ones with the cmos reset fix.

dsdt_f8_with_cmos_patch.zip

dsdt_f9a_with_cmos_patch.zip

Attention. Only use the cmos reset fix version if you are having trouble with cmos reset. but before ALWAYS try the one without the fix.

yeah for your graphics to work properly you have to set up a custom dsdt for the ep45 ud3 with your gfx strings included ^^ or you can do the thing you suggested. setting up a dsdt for the ep45-ud3 without gfx and then adding an efi string to the boot.plist ^^

nope i didnt need any of those kexts you mentioned ^^ just run the patcher from lifehackers simplified guide over your install drive and then replace the dsdt with the new one ^^

ehm for me ethernet, sound, dual screen work like a charm. dont know about bonjour maybe i can test later on with itunes but i think it works as well ^^

no prob dude for all the questions thats why we're here ;)

peaze

Thank you !

you have to set up a custom dsdt for the ep45 ud3 with your gfx strings included

Ok then... this is the awkward piece of cake I didn't understood yet ;)

how do I proceed ?

I've been reading the differents tutos but I dont understand the way t goes...

NB : I own a working laptop under Win XP and a mac to proceed, wich is the best ?

Last question before I start again : should I go to F9 bios or should I stick to F8 ?

Thankyou SOOO much!!!

I shall update to F9 and try the various ones...

Just again... Thanks

^^

just update via q-flash.

sek i'll post the biosupdate for you : )

Tutorial for Q-Flash (internal Gigabyte BIOS-Flashtool)

BIOS F9a

ep45ud3.f9a.zip

I added this for you cause the bios is in a selfextracting .exe and I didnt know whether you have a windows running to extract it ; )

ehm you know how to replace the dsdts ? cause you will have to repair the permissions : )

if you want i can put up a tutorial for you

Thank you !

just read the topic i posted before : )

ehm about patching the dsdt i could do this for you i just need you to tell me whether you want the gfx to be in the dsdt or the boot.plist ^^

and the specs of your card. vram, connectors (dual dvi; dvi+vga, etc.) ^^

I added this for you cause the bios is in a selfextracting .exe and I didnt know whether you have a windows running to extract it ; )

eh eh! you're right. my pc rig has no win on it but I extracted it from my old laptop. Bios update worked like a charm. Where is the time when it was soo risky to flash the bios ? : p

ehm you know how to replace the dsdts ? cause you will have to repair the permissions : )

That could be usefull but I guess I know the theory about permissions.

I use Onyx for cleaning/maintenance purpose (not often on the mac) and I know how to repair permissions in theory but Where will I have to repair the permissions? on the thumbdrive after I replaced the dsdt.aml ?

ehm if i were you i would update to F9a cause its way faster : )

Ichixgo... you rock.

I've red threads about DSDT and I think it would be best to put it on the DSDT.

My gfx card is an ASUS 7300 GT Silent with 256 Mb and DVI + VGA conectors.

And once again, a huge thanx for the help ; )

EDIT : I updated the mobo bios to F9a.

The corsair 8 Gb thumbdrive is patched with the LH EP45 UD3P package so i'm ready to go further.
