unfortunately there is no fix. seeing that the gurus shift to newer problems, newer gfx cards as the gma950 gets outdated, I am very pessimistic this will ever be solved.

Thanks for the quick reply! And yeah, that's what I figured, chances for sleep working on this machine were slim to none. Nonetheless, I 'm considering the plunge and switching my primary OS from Vista to Leopard! B)

Hi

You are really experts B)

I have Dell Inspiron 6400 and Kalyway DVD. The problem is when I start installation, it gives me a message that installation FAILED. I repeated it 3 times with the same message.

I connected an External USB Hard disk and installed the same DVD to this External USB Hard disk and installation completed successfully. BUT IT Does not boot from the External HD.

Any Idea?

Hi guys

I have a new 1520 I want to convert but it runs a Intel X3100 graphics onboard. So far I haven't seen any support for this, can anyone confirm? I'm going to try my luck over the weekend anyway.

Cheers

more here and here

Here you go. I've attached a screen shot of my setup. Please let me know if that helped. I also attached my complete NVinjectGo.kext if you need it. I also wanted to make sure everyone knew that this is for a Geforce Go 7300 on a Dell E1505. Let me know if that was able to help you.

Ok...now I tried it on a completely fresh installation on a new hard drive and still no go ^_^ I used kalyway by the way and your supplied nvinject.

Anyone else have dual monitor working? I'm not doubting andrizzle...just think something freaky may have happened to get it to work on that computer...

This is one of the few things keeping me from just staying in mac completely. :)

Howdy,

My E1705's 7900GS Go apparently went belly-up. I decided to replace the card and at the same time boost the power, so I got a 7950GTX Go off of eBay. I have the card installed, and XP64 seems to love it. However, OS X 10.5.1 seems to be less than thrilled. It begins to boot, the initial light blue screen comes up, and then.. it stops. The caps lock still works, so I know the laptop is "alive" but it seems to be stuck.

I am using the nvInject that is on one of the earlier pages, the modded one specifically for the 32-bit color banding on the 7900GS Go. I'm not in front of the laptop now, so I haven't had a chance to really mess with it, but just to streamline the amount of tinkering I do, can anyone recommend a way to resolve this crisis? I figure I'll just delete the nvInject kext and try the new .2.1 version, but I'm not sure if I need to do anything else special.

Note that the 7950GTX is a 512MB part, which OS X sees at boot as 256MB, and I don't mind this as long as there's no ill-effect. I don't do anything in OS X that requires that kind of video memory.

Haven't read through the 60 pages of the thread, however if the sleep problem to which you refer has to do with the display failing to re-initialize after lid-close or sleep, (or if anyone else is having such problem w/inspiron6400/1505), you can get the screen to come back on with this workaround (again, not sure if this has been mentioned yet):

-Open up the display preferences and tick the box for showing displays in menu bar.... Now it is accessible via kb shortcut (default <ctrl-f8>). So if the display won't revive, you can use kb shortcuts to select a new resolution easily. And when you do so, the screen will come back on... at which point just switch it back to your original resolution.

-Just memorize the arrow movements it takes to navigate to the resolution change. For me its <ctrl-f8,down,down,enter>, as display prefs is the first menu highlighted after <ctrl-f8>, but it might not be for you.

So, not the best solution, but the only one that's come to mind.

Did you remember to change the VRAM to 512 MB on the modded kext I posted? otherwise it wont work... this explains why you are having problems.

If you don't have any plist editor installed, just download the 512 MB version straight off Gotoh's site :(

I already informed him of the colour banding issue and he fixed it in the latest NVinjectGo release.

nope, no dice. I tried sth similar before. nice idea but it doesn't work. thanks for trying to help! I think this works fro the 3100 or others, but not the gma950 :D

Quick question for my e1505/6400. I can install Iatkos 1.0ir2 successfully using efi only without the stock kernel (stock kernel just halts mid-boot, and I can't see an error to figure out what's up). The non-stock efi boot gets me in to the setup screens, but when I get to the point of having to fill in information, my keyboard doesn't work. I don't seem to see anyone reporting that problem here. The keyboard works when booting the Iatkos disk, so it doesn't really make sense to me. Any ideas? Thanks.

sounds like when you try to boot into vanilla kernel you don't have the correct AppleSMBIOS.kext installed. It will not work with vanilla AppleSMBIOS.kext.

The fact that the keyboard does not work is related to a similar issue in AppleACPIPlatform.kext. if you use the wrong one (eg. vanilla kext on a non vanilla kernel) then non of your ps2 devices will work, which includes the keyboard on your notebook.

altogether, it seems that you did not choose the correct combination of kernel and kexts when you installed.

I installed iATKOS today on my Dell E1405 with the darwin boot loader on a seperate partition next to Vista. It works really nicely; however, I cannot get it to boot without it restarting 5 times or so. I'm reinstalling without EFI support to see if the issue might be alleviated.

Has anyone had this issue?

Also, I read the guide and understand that the power issue (fan not stopping) should already be fixed when installing the iATKOS? Or.....?

Another thing, how can I go about using an external monitor without the screen being on when the laptop is closed? Should I just boot with the vga plug in the computer with the lid closed?

Thanks for the information. I'll try to sort out my vanilla/non-vanilla pairings and hope I can get it fully working.

Well it works when you CHANGE the display resolution, on my e1505 which is gma950

(Linux lspci says 00:02 ... 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express integrated Graphics Controller rev 03)

I have to choose 1024x640 then the picture comes back and I can now change it

once again to 1280x800.

So how do we fix this ??. I wonder if it is only the backligth that is not turned on. Would it be possible

to log into this system using ssh and turn on the backlight manually (to check if this is the case).

Where is this supposed to happen ?? and is the sourcecode available for this module, if so I would be happy to look into it.

PS: how do I easily get lspci (and other UNIX tools) for OSX

Hello

have tried to follow Ati X1400 mobility kext-procedure of devilhood (start of this thread) on my Dell inspiron 9400.

(after Kaliway 10.5.1. installation on a empty drive, booting from harddrive with "cpus=1" will go on only for a minute or so and end with a black screen).

After rebooting with "-s cpus=1" I followed his tutorial for changing info.plist but saving it stops because the system complains of "read-only".

(there is no admin-password)

How to change this file nevertheless?

Thanks!

back to the drawing board. I don't think I actually changed to resolution. will try again. thank you

edit1: ok, it works when I close the lid. But when I choose apple menu and sleep it doesn't work. what I noticed is that when I close the lid the power button light is on permanent. but when I choose sleep from apple menu it's fading in and out. I guess my sleep mode is set differently for both. do you know how to change the sleep mode?

so half success, thank you! but noticing that the power light is on constantly makes me think that it is not actually sleeping correctly, any idea?

edit2: ok found the sleep mode command. playing around with it (sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0). 0 is only one of several options. more here and here

edit3: doesn't matter to which mode I set it to, it behaves the same. the next problem is that there are no options in BIOS to set sleep options in power management (typical dell). so for now it works when lid is closed and it does not work with apple menu/sleep. they seem to be two different sleep modes at least on my system according to the way the power light behaves. The system keeps running when I close my lid (cpu and hdd are still active). The display wakes up with your method. When it actually goes to sleep correctly, I can wake up the system but the monitor stays black.

Looks I am just there where I started. sooo close though.

Can/Will the stuttering (with c2dm) be fixed? I want to get a Inspiron 1720 to use leo, but i'm not sure if i should after reading this guide

I'm going to take a bet that it will be fixed eventually.

Only one person so far in this thread has actually spoken about trying to solve the problem; the last guy working on this (Prasys) has actually left the hackintosh scene. He developed the ACPI kext which we used for SpeedStep on 10.4.9, and he was planning on allowing full manual ACPI implementation for different systems, but no one (to my knowledge) has taken over from the project.

Does audio work perfectly on the E1505 when the head phone jack is in use and the lid is closed?

Also, I have a Vista partition and a OSX partition. I typed fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 in the terminal at install after getting the HFS+ partition error message and essentially replaced the MBR. Vista is now saying it needs to repair the MBR - how can I go about booting to OSX/Vista still? All of my Vista files are still intact in that partition, but the MBR is screwed I think, since it was replaced with OSX's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

HI all,

after a first experience with the 10.4.8 that I found too aproximative (non sound, no wifi, no 8600M GT) I give up to return on my Ubuntu...but now it seems that mains problems are solved so, I tried to install Leopard.

Unfortunately I really understand nothing because too much things are new (EFi for example...) and,by example, if I have correctly understand something, I have to get two instal DVD (Kalyway and Brazilmac).

Could someone maybe explain me an easier the way to install and try a Leopard experience...I'm really not a noob in PC but I really don't arrive to find a good Tuto in this jungle...(i tried this way http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;hl=brazilmac )

I have a Vostro 1500 (exactly the same as an Inspiron 1520 but in black!!)

8600M GT

HDD 160GB 7200rpm

Thanks for all and Happy new year :D

(sorry for my aproximative english....I'm French ^^)

Regards.

Blaste, if you had read my guide you wouldn't be asking this question.

Get iATKOS v1.0i r2 or Kalyway and read their respective threads for support.

I'm going to take a bet that it will be fixed eventually.

He hasn't posted in a while, might have stopped working on it.

I really doubt we will ever see a fix for it.

I have Dell Inspiron 6400 & ATI X1400 . In Windows my max resolution is 1280x800 . I've installed Kalyway 10.5.1 & I cannot change my resolution . even in boot.plist . Please help me how can I fix it ? (QE/CI Enabled)

Thanks.

Oh yeah, good find. I think I saw some of his earlier posts a while back, shame he hit a brick wall :P
