blazes816
I followed the instructions exactly. I know have my resolution up, but only on my external monitor. My internal is now blank. I also don't have QE/CI enabled. Any help? I'm on Kalyway Leopard. michaelOSX
Edit: Damn it, everything was going fine until I went to the Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions...Now while booting it stops on #localhost /root: _here a space to type Why did this happen? Hi! I can't tell you why this happened. But it worked in the past didn't it? So I would reinstall and see if it works - then try to reconstructing this problem. yozh
OK I was the brave one, updated to 10.5.2 on kalyway DVD, Had to follow instructions on http://netkas.org/?p=50 then replaced the applesmbios, applehda, appleps2controller, appleacpiplatform the keyboard/mouse doesnt work on first boot had to use USB. Battery meter is gone. Sleep still works! If you find a way to get battery back let me know. Going to try to put powermanagemnet bundle. Update: Powermanagment bundle seems to work now. I did have a problem for 1 wake up, might of been a fluke will try again. macgirl
for battery you need to match the AppleACPIPlatform.kext and IOACPIFamily.kext in the plist of the AppleACPIPowerSource.kext you can use the AppleACPIPowerSource.kext alone with the Vanilla AppleACPIPlatform.kext though but you alse will need ACPIPS2Nub.kext New AppleACPIPlatform.kext is 1.2.1 and new IOACPIFamily.kext is 1.2.0 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15474-guide-dell-inspiron-6400940015201720e1405e1505e1705-intel-core-duo/page/53/#findComment-619007 Share on other sites

But what should a disk repair change?Have you installed something different or selected (at the install) a wrong kext or something? No, actually I just did it because I read a topic which said permissions should be repaired right after install if it was going slow... but i guess it did no good for me. So, let me see if I got the kext load part right: Do I have to copy now the according kext files (to fix sound, video, etc.) to System/Extensions in order to load them through Terminal? Will a flash drive work for this? manmower
Ive read a lot of posts in this topic, and I see that a lot of people have the same problem as me... A dell 6400 with an ATI x1400 with edited ATIRadeonX1000.kext, but still a black screen... (after the stripes...) Does ANYONE has a solution? I've read about not installing any video drivers... can anyone confirm that? Im using a Kalyway installation by the way... Thanks in advance! typhoonman
Hi all.. finally i've got a working osx 10.5.1 on my dell Inspiron 9400 (BIOS A09) i've used kalyway release with vanilla kernel+efi and i've installed it into an USB external drive i have the cpu issue so i'm with 1 cpu by bios right now. lan and video works perfectly with kalyway drivers, i have a geforce 7900gs bluetooth works wifi haven't installed so i don't know i still have 2 problems: 1-i've installed APPLEHDA Dell Inspiron 9400.dmg for my sigmatel audio device, is for 10.4.10 but i've read it works fine also in 10.5.1, anyway i've used "kext helper" for install as i don't know how without, it has installed everything well and i have not the "bad kext installation" warning at boot. The problem is that it doesn't works it outputs no audio, i have no input selection, and if i try using the "play thru sigmatel 9200" app it hangs and i have to force quit. Am i missing something ? i've tried also trashing apple audio prefs, i think the problem is that i've selected kalyway audio drivers during install.. could be the problem ? 2-I've read everywhere that sleep works with vanilla kernel.. but mine doesn't works, i mean it goes to sleep, and it turns off my usb hd aswell and power led starts blinking, but when i press something to back it on it just reboot from bios. i would like to have a working sleep mode so i can use the sleep trick to enable boh processors.. are there particular bios settings for sleep? or do i have to trash/change some kext ? what am i missing? many thanks for any answer!!! "Sleep prevent..." or something like this cause reboot after sleep if it's turned off. i've just looked inside bios there are no options regarding any sleep mode, let's say the word "sleep" is not present in my Bios, anywhere!! i have bios a09. yours ? also i get hangs even with just monitor off, i mean that if it goes black it will never show up again, i have to hard reset. i think i have no chance if even the graphic card won't sleep right? the strange thing is that you have the same computer as mine, the graphic card aswell!! well is not identical cause you have the dell wifi and i have intel one cause dell was incompatible with some other parts i've choose during configuration on dell website, so it's a bit different... also consider that i'm booting from an external usb drive, dunno fi it means something btw. The graphic card is identical, why i get hangs with just monitor off, probably we have a different graphic card bios version ???? i have to do some more tests.. here are geforce7900 info from apple system profiler: Chipset Model: GeForce Go 7900 GS Type: Display Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 256 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0298 Revision ID: 0x00a1 ROM Revision: NVinject 0.1.5 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15474-guide-dell-inspiron-6400940015201720e1405e1505e1705-intel-core-duo/page/53/#findComment-624113 Share on other sites
sonotone
Sorry, i do not enter in bios setup for a while... the option is "cpu XD" in security. you need to keep this enable. TheGreatDeceiver
those of you with 6400/E1505 and gma950 gfx that upgraded to 10.5.2, did the mouse tearing go away? I see in other threads that people with e.g. desktop gma950 that used to have mouse tearing don't have it anymore after upgrading plus the new graphic upgrade that shows on updates. wonder if this works with the dell notebooks as well??? btw. the reports I've read are referring to Kalyway's 10.5.2 patched upgrade and his kernel upgrade, not the stock apple upgrade. will give this a try tomorrow. ok, went ahead and installed kalyway's 10.5.2 combo updater onto the existing kalyway 10.5.1. worked great, no problems with the exception of no write to ntfs drives. I guess my paragon ntfs for osx bit the bullet. have to reinstall this. powermanagement went back to were it used to be, e.g. no battery meter. need to get this back as well. then I installed the graphic update available for download. installed that and ended up with black screen after boot. same old problem. Now I have to wait until I get sth to get my gma950 kexts back that work. has to wait until tomorrow. anyways, kalyway 10.5.2 update works smoothly, however the graphic update from apple for your gma950 dell notebook will get you a black screen after boot. will report back when I get the working gma950 kexts back. but knowing that I have to put old kexts back makes me believe that I will still have problems with mouse tearing. later edit 1: later... was able to connect an external monitor and install older AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext. That fixed the black screen. Reinstalled Paragon NTFS and works fine now. Unfortunately, the mouse tearing is still present. So, what works for the desktops in the other threads certainly does not work for the Dell 6400 with gma950 - too bad, was so promising. also installed the new mach_92 from netkas and the new smbios from netkas. everything works fine, just like before. Got everything except sleep and the mouse tearing. gotta live with it I know. sonotone
Add a little weirdness to this. I just realized that when I had an NTFS partition as the first partition on the drive, (prior to making this a Leopard only machine) That the issue did not happen. When I first cloned the second partition to the first one problem first happened. And still persists with the whole drive as one partition. iAtkos resulted in the same problem. I'm thinking of possibly creating a small NTFS partition as the first partition and seeing if I can duplicate the results. Any news about testing?
