melee54
Invest in a good SATA HD for OS X to plug into the Intel SATA ports (blue/green). It'll be money well spent. Plus, anything to get away from the buggy JMicron controllers that run the PATA and white SATA ports. MAJ Whoah, whoah... So that white port is buggy? That's the one that I have my SATA plugged into! I had no idea why that one was white, but I decided to use it. I'll switch to a blue one, then. I will invest in another SATA drive, though. Thanks for the help. EDIT: Switched to blue SATA port, switched bios to ACHI. Now I cannot boot into my old IDE. Sorry for ignorance, I'm brand new to this. Edit: (World record broken for most edits by forum user....): Ran gparted, completely wiped both drives. Installing iATKOS again. Hopefully this'll work. Edit: IDE drive stopped working in ACHI mode. Yertil
Look into System/Library/Extensions and see if you have any colored kexts. If there are some, it's boot-132. If not, you probably have a vanilla install with EFI boot. radov4n
Make sure the DSDT patch is created on your target machine, not the machine that did the install. Best of wishes, MAJ Yeah, DSDT patch in the script did not work for P6T. Had to patch it manually also instead of "./DSDT\ Patcher Debug/dsdt.dsl" I had to do "./DSDT\ Patcher Debug/dsdt.dsl -f". luh3417
Installing Cham2 over 1012 is no problem. Same install process, but with different files. Just rerun the bootloader install routine (pre-patch) and select Cham2 and you're done. Worked like a champ. dd, MAJ, knightprozac, many thanks! @melee54 Do invest in SATA HDD and DVD, you won't regret it. Two articles that have some angles on OC this family of motherboards... http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mainboard...a-x58-ud4p.html http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=...E2bydYYl2Ib-4IQ (.pdf download link) Bear in mind "they were written around the C0 revision of the i7 920 and not the current D0 so voltages will probably be a bit different for the overclock." FWIW neither article is for the UD5 either. Just wanted to give some ideas of the tricks they used. Personally I'm aiming for 3.6 with little or no voltage tweaking. Was just at Computex where the Gigabyte booth has the whole family on display. GA-EX58A-EXTREME, -UD5, -UD4P, -UD4, -UD3R. Only the 3R looks like they took much off, but check their website for details. I have been using an EFI String to load the "drivers" the the Video card w/ everything working properly. Perhaps this is related to my machine not being able to enter sleep while running my raid. I had to run my RAID from the white GSATA2 ports since I couldn't get it to work on the blue intel ones. hisham_dell
Strange: Chameleon not loading kexts from /Extra/Extensions! Using script version 3.6 and a Kalyway 10.5.2 install on my old Dell GX 280, I installed Chameleon 2, activated the parition, installed OS X 10.5.4 from my shrink wrapped retail pack, combo updated it to 10.5.7 and installed the default kexts in /Extra/Extensions and updated the boot cache (I'm using vanilla kernel 9.7 from 10.5.7, so no kernel or system.kext copied). I then booted it up on my ex58-ud5 i7 machine and everything worked sweet without any problems. Chameleon was loading the kexts from the Extra/Extensions and it was running great. Then I decided to repartition my drive for whatever reason (wanted to installed Windows as well), so I used disk utility to partition it with 1 HFS+ partition for OS X and 1 FAT partition for Windows. My understanding is that this creates a hybrid gpt/mbr disk automatically (it does as far as I can tell, as I did install Windows without a hitch). Anyway, back to OS X and DD's great script. Now I'm using script version 3.7 and again my Dell GX 280 with Kalyway 10.5.2 to install OS X. The problem is, and I 've tried re-installing several times, is that Chameleon does not load anything from the /Extra directory! And so I get a KP since Apple ACPI kext locks up since it's not disabled by disabler.kext. I've re-installed several times (and yes, even without installing Windows. Just OS X on the first partition). Chameleons 2 shows it's pretty graphical face but when I load up OS X, it disregards the /Extra stuff. :/ Funny thing is, when I use a Boot-132 CD to boot the partition, the /Extra stuff is loaded! I would appreciate if any of you guys can shed some light on this, as I have even tried using script version 3.6 and ended up with the same issue. I even reverted back to my original setup of just one HFS+ parition, GPT to see if it will work and it doesn't!. I could swear I did the same steps the first time round when it worked without a problem! knightprozac
After installing windows XP onto a partition on my boot drive I had to boot into a separate drive and then reinstall chameleon 2.0 onto my target drive that way before I got things to work. joeblough
Strange: Chameleon not loading kexts from /Extra/Extensions! we discovered this a long while back and that's why dd's script (starting with 3.4 i think, i cant remember) started putting the extensions in /Extra/Stored_Kexts and making /Extra/Extensions.mkext. chameleon seems to reliably load all the kexts from the mkext file, but does not load them if they are just in /Extra/Extensions/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/149505-guide-retail-os-x-install-1058-on-gigabyte-ga-ex58-ud5-core-i7-mobo/page/65/#findComment-1168672 Share on other sites

Thanks, Dave If you are using D_D's script and modifying the boot.plist when running that script, your EFI string is probably not being entered correctly. Open the boot.plist in D_D's folder and add your string manually (copy and paste). Then redo the install of kexts and Chameleon but do not run the 'modify plist' command. (make sure you remove the Inject kext from the list). I have the UD3R board equipped with two drives, one boots from EFI partition and the other uses the Extra folder. In each I am using chameleon2 with an EFI string for the Invidia video card in the boot.plist. I modified the boot.plist manually because the string is too long to be input from Terminal. Get Info on volume, bottom of Sharing & Permissions, deselect that button. Although it should not be disabled, an installer may activate ownership just as a precaution. Jay Bomb
I had to clear my partitions and start over, however whenever I try to boot into 10.5.7 now. Text overwrites the main apple loading screen until it fades to black. However chameleon was able to boot kalyway. Is there a file I'm missing? Update: Fixed the issue had to disable a feature on the motherboard. New Question: I had to install Easy BCD to get into my OS X install. If I used the script and set the OS X partition active again will that let it be able to boot? Or should I proceed to install chameleon on my kalyway drive and boot from there?
