Does anyone know how to access Hotmail with the new free pop3 access with OS X Mail? I am trying to setting up but does not work. Here is the official configuration from Microsoft:

-POP server: pop3.live.com

-POP SSL required? Yes

-User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@hotmail.com

-Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live

-SMTP server: smtp.live.com

-Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)

-TLS/SSL required? Yes

tbh I only use my hotmail account for live messenger because I can't be asked to go through the hassle of setting up a new live ID and adding my contacts over again. All my other accounts are Gmail/Google apps that I sync over IMAP with outlook.

Your account need to be from Spain, UK and some others UE countries.

What??? are u telling me that Microsoft is allow only other countries to use free pop access but not the United States? that's weird

It Works In Usa!

Ive Been Using It Since They Released The POP3 Avalibality

Just to clarify things, yes, you can use Hotmail POP in the U.S. Not sure about the thread starter's problems, but you can absolutely use POP on a Mac if you're in the U.S. (and select other countries- just google it).

i dont think hotmail pop3 works with Mac. I have never heard of that before but let me no if it works because then ill be surprised.

Well, I setup again and work like a charm in Leopard Mail, I am in the U.S.A. ;) Now waiting for Yahoo to see if they will release free pop access :D

Hotmail automatically sets up now as most of you know. As for yahoo:

Free Yahoo pop mail.

Yahoo has changed a bit since this was written but it still works. Make sure you enter a secondary email in your yahoo profile because switching to asian will reset the password. You will have yahoo reset it, yahoo emails the password reset to your secondary email. Sorta scary switching to asian but no, the language does not change, asian just enables free pop and email forwarding.

I have two yahoo free accounts, both work in mac mail.

Here is the directions.
