cyclonefr
hum nice...there must be a workaround to avoid burning the whole thing and reinstalling even when it will overwrite file i know... im fed up of burning DVD every update Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14193-success-with-1046-jas-update-on-sse2-nonx-machine/#findComment-90485 Share on other sites
Eskurza
regardless of the update, its a good idea yo back up the entire extensions folder.. I keep finding incompatible kexts. pm me if you need audio/network kexts from the previous verions. domino
hum nice...there must be a workaround to avoid burning the whole thing and reinstalling even when it will overwrite file i know...im fed up of burning DVD every update Don't update I still haven't seen any conclusive evidence or major difference from 10.4.4 to 10.4.6 on our PC. When np_ gets finished with the nV drivers and we get smooth graphics, higher refresh, and higher res, then I'd think about upgrading. For me, I'll have to set up all the installed app's prefs and most will get wiped during the reinstall. I'll have to set up blue tooth and re-pair and re-config 2 phones and BT headset, will have to re-hack to get front row working, test all applications to see if they all work 100%. IMO, reinstalling just to get a higher version number isn't always the best thing. Yes there are low lever enhancements to the OS and some applications. We still have to remember that it's not that easy on a PC as it is on a real Mac. Now Eskurza might be able to change my mind if he can list 5 significant things that he has that I don't have running 10.4.4. docangle
Did you install from scratch? Or from a working 10.4.3 or 10.4. installation? Do you have to type your password to logon (Or is Autologon fixed)? Eskurza
I can try man.. certainly 1- When Using USB audio devices (inmy case iMic) I was getting a weird noises from it. 10.4.5 and up solves this issue 2- The Gui is much more reponsive and quick even with Nvidia nonaccelerated graphics on 1600x1200@75 you can install and see. 3- The satisfaction of seeing 10.4.6 4- Future compatibility.. keeping up to date is better since I dont know what they include in these updates entirely.. Therefore some security issues and incompatibilities might be getting solved.. I dont know. So avoidence of Uncertainty. 5- Flash unibin plugin.. Safari just flies now.. I can count more.. but most importantly i like to play around with this stuff. Like I solved my USBAUDIO issue today.. I was really happy that i could do that for example.. it might not be a big thing for others.. but for me the experience is satisfiying.. Hope this helps. EDIT: docangle.. I burned the DVD booted natively and upgraded the system via the usual installer.. I have no login issue.. domino
1. I don't have Audio devices, but my BT headset to skype works fine with no distortion. 2. I'm dying to get more than 1200x1024 using my TI4200! and I'd love to get higher than 60hz (check) 3. We can change that to make it 10.5 4. For the real Mac's yes I can see that. But for us PC users, no one can see past 10.4.6 5. you can pacify the plugin and drop it to you existing install The experience counts! I agree with you 10 folds.. Thanks Eskurza... edit: Can you confirm that Front Row still works? effortless
What .dmg file do you patch with the Jas 10.4.6 files? I tried converting my 10.4.5 DVD and 10.4.4 DVDs into DMG files using disk utility and then trying to patch those, but it has a bunch of unfound directories when the sh script runs. Is there a 10.4.4 recovery dmg file that's pure and unpatched floating around that I need?? Any help would be appreciated!! Eskurza
So it sounds like you used the patched DVD to upgrade your currently running 10.4.4 system? You obtain the Original Restore DVD, no patches... use Jas's autopather to create the iso.. use that iso to upgrade or fresh install by booting native. hope it's clear enough now Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14193-success-with-1046-jas-update-on-sse2-nonx-machine/#findComment-90664 Share on other sites
jonajona
Thanks Eskurza for your efforts. I will try later. However, I'd like to know for sure that everything is working okay. I just can't believe that the GUI is more responsive. I just can't believe that the GUI is more responsive. As I said earlier, some kexts are not working for our devices. Back up the extensions folder somewhere so that u can replace the ones that are broken. You still need to replace the kernel to cope with cpuid issuie as well as for non-intel cpus. other than that everything seems to be ok hope this helps Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/14193-success-with-1046-jas-update-on-sse2-nonx-machine/#findComment-90690 Share on other sites
Genesis
I had success with installing 10.4.6 Jas patched DVD. ALC 860 started to work with modified Azalia kext from 10.4.3 and network was ok after OSX install. The only problem remains GMA 900 Drivers not working. It won't load AppleIntel915.kext. I noticed the error during boot and in Logs. Tried the kext both from 10.4.5 and 10.4.3 . No acceleration. Also in logs i see a wierd notice: duplicate "something i can't remember" Resolution menu issue solved with AppleIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext Anyone?
