RoyaRandom
I plan to buy a processor and I do not know whether I should buy the E8600, which I plan to overclock to 4Ghz+, or the Q6600. I do not know how high Q6600 can go up to but I'm guessing around 3.5Ghz-3.7Ghz. I am not a gamer and I'll mostly use it for Photoshop, multimedia, and editing. I know that I should get the quad core, but I was wondering if higher clock rate will benefit me? Thanks. RoyaRandom
What's your cooling system? Also, will around 400Mhz effect the processors performances? JBLanteigne
I know that if you use softwares that does not support quad core.. the E8600 will always be the best cpu in its price. It really depends on which softwares you use and how many of them you use at the same time. MaaseyRacer
If you are gaming overclocked E8500. Best price/performance. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/128160-overclockd-e8600-vs-overclocked-q6600/#findComment-909824 Share on other sites
vbetts
He's not a gamer though, and he listed what he would use the computer for. In this case, overclocked q6600. Dr. Hurt
I'd say go for a E8600 because not many applications can take advantage of the quad core cpu, so a newer and faster dual core is like perform better in most situations. vbetts
Multitasking would be better on a quad core. even if the e8600 is overclocked to 4 ghz even, there won't be that much of a difference. Now say 6 ghz, yes then I would say go for the 8600, but it can't oc that high. That would be about close to 100% overclock.
