Which GPU for SL?

Oh so it's just the new version of the 9800? Then I guess the os x support should be the same. Thanks.

Which GPU for SL?

I know the 9800 GT will be enough for my needs.. however I was expecting a more recent gpu as a suggestion. Let me explain my expectations. Sometimes, when products get old, they still sell for lot of $$ in shops.. and sometimes for like 10$ extra you get the new gen that has way higher resell value (once you sell the used computer) and performs better... However I must also take SL support into consideration, I heard the 9800 GT seems to be widely supported.

Radeon 3870 HD Snow Leopard

it seems the best bet is to sell the card and buy a newer one. That's what I did.. I'll go buy a GTS 250 tmrw.
4. Hi, I own a 3870 that I bought back then for a leopard machine... looks like it doesn't work with SL. I will need to replace it... I've been told that nvidia are now easier to work with for SL... I do video editing and I don't need that much a GPU.. got suggestions?
5. I'm trying the usb method. I got my dvd image on the thumb drive but when I try to install kakewalk on it.. the install can't finish. I have a EP45-DS3R so I'm giving it a try with the EP45-DS3L seem they are about the same.. but I can't even get it installed. Help plz. I tried installing the EP45-UD3R (over my failed install of the DS3L) and it worked.. not sure if the install will work tho since I think my mobo is closer to ther DS3L Apparently the UD3R should work with the DS3R... when I tried to install the bootloaded worked, I saw the gray screen with white apple logo (edit2: it's actually gray apple on white bg) then when it wanted to load I got a black screen with white squares/lines on it. My guess is that I'd need support for my ATI 3870, not sure how to get this. Also, this might be because I installed kakewalk UD3R OVER a failed install of DS3L... so.. what do you thinK? Thanks

Sony Vaio CW290

Ok So I'm using a USB flash drive with SL on.. I might actually get the dvd.. Here's what I got so far: ##### boots up fine, then it sees my flash drive with SL on it. First I tried booting with enter by itself, I got some repetitive error message that stopped at some point. 2nd I tried with busratio=19... got an error about ACPI driver. (note: I can't get to this anymore, not sure how I got to this screen in the first place) Since I can't change my mobo to AHCI mode in the bios, I'm going to give this a try: http://www.ithinkdiff.com/how-to-enable ... stallation That guide did not help because it looks like it was already in AHCI mode in Win7. Here's a list of what I have in the Bios: IntelĀ® Virtualization Technology [Enabled] Boot Configuration, External Device Boot: [Enabled] Boot Priority is set to boot cd first, external device 2nd and hdd is 3d. That's it.. (I'm used to desktop bios) After doing all that {censored} I went back to #####. Found my SL usb drive, and I tried booting using "busratio=19" and "-x" and "busratio=19 -x" Then I see "EBIOS read error: controller or device error Block 0x802 Sectors 0" "EBIOS read error: controller or device error Block 0x804 Sectors 0" "EBIOS read error: controller or device error Block 0x81c Sectors 0" each of them appear a couple of times. I need help!

Sony Vaio CW290

Since the announcement of the new macbook pros I've been looking forward for indications on how to install OS X Snow Leopard on my somewhat new sony laptop. I couldn't find much, so I'm starting this thread listing a discussion on that topic, and my attempts at installing OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on my Sony Vaio CW290 Laptop. If anyone else is interested to help me, please do so. please post any related information that could help me. So far, I did not try much but I'm planning to follow this guide: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/ibo...ac-os-x-on.html I'll update with results once I'm there, if you guys have any suggestions please post them here. I will try my best to keep this thread updated on the installation of OS X on this laptop.
11. I wasn't expecting the i7-720QM because it takes too much battery and that seems to be one of apple's priority. However, I'm surprised they did not put the i5 or even the i3 in their 13 inches. The i3 would have made the mbp 13 look cheap and the i5 would have lowered they profit unless they raised the price that is already too high. The best purchase seems to be the higher end 15" with the screen upgrade.. that's still a over 2k machine tho.. but 2k I'd get the sony Z /w ssd and higher res screen + smaller machine. Conclusion: mbp are still overpriced, I'm glad I went for a sony vaio CW, its about the same of the mid range 15" yet costs much less. I don't think good battery life worth the 800$ I saved..

New Macbook Pros Out

I have a vaio CW with i5-540, looking at the specs, its a lot like the 15" mbp.. good news for me!
13. I have an EP45-DS3R and this model is not listed in your original thread. I assume that it might work... once I try, I'll tell you so you can update your thread with this model as well. Thanks for making this.

i5/i7 Laptops + Hackintosh?

I ordered a sony vaio CW with core i5-540 and while I don't mind win7, I'm going to give OS X a try... I have no idea where to start (because so far, I only followed guides that worked and bought the parts so it works) I'm probably going to make a thread once I start trying to install it.
