With the exception of my Aluminum iMac every mac I have purchased has been refurbished. My first was a white ibook G3 and it's still running perfectly to this day. The only thing that has been replaced on it is the battery. Refurbs from Apple have a 1 year warranty and you can purchase AppleCare for them. It's like buying a new Mac at a discount.

go refurb, you wont regret it.

one non-obvious thing about refurbs - in case of a problem with your machine within the warranty, you will get it repaired (for free), rather than replaced. no biggie though.

oh, and i beleive you have time after you receive a refurb to return it, if it doesnt meet your expectations. apple refurbs generally have a very good (and well-deserved) reputation. i should know, im typing this on a refurb MacBook Pro. :D

I'm thinking of getting rid of my Hackbook to go Mac. I'm wondering if anyone had any problems buying refurbished products from Apple and their experiences with a refurbished Mac. Also, how hot do Penryn Macbooks get under heavy use?

Thanks a very!

Ive got a less than 1 month old macbook for sale, it will be up on ebay next weekend.... if you want the specs they are in my sig, I think it will go for about $1400, because its upgraded.

No problems at all with the refurb Macs that I've bought over the years (a bunch of them). Most recently a MacBook, although not the Penryn model you're looking at, but Core2Duo 2Ghz, had no problems with it in twelve months. G5 Power Mac, MacMini Core Duo same thing, they're just like new. I even stopped buying AppleCare.
