Technobob
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/07...hone_rates.html Blogger Daniel Smith claims multiple sources, including a senior Rogers representative, claim that Apple has diverted a significant amount of its initial iPhone 3G Canadian deliveries to Europe in retribution for the carrier's steep rate plans, which at similar prices offer a third fewer minutes and limited data compared to AT&T. Technobob
I just heard about this news and it's awesome, our voices are being heard. Headrush69
I just heard about this news and it's awesome, our voices are being heard. When we are done with Rogers I think it's time to take on Bell and Telus both have decided to charge 0.15 cents per incoming text messages I don't know how awesome it is. It's hardly a guarantee that we'll see any change. My guess is even with all the bad PR, Rogers has no real incentive to change. Sure they'll sell less, but better to keep their high plans. Without any real competition changes will be slow to come. The real issue is the Canadian government not allowing foreign competition. They sell out everything else in the country but they "protect" a few industries. This isn't helping Canadians consumers, it's just providing cash cows for a select few. Rumor was the T-Mobile wanted to come to Canada but the CRTC put the kibosh on that. They'll pay taxes and provide jobs the same as a Canadian company, so what's the problem CRTC? Technobob
Turns out that this is not news because Apple will be selling the iPhone in the US stores only, not sure about the UK stores. The problem with the CRTC is it's not an elected body they are appointed by whoever is in power when an opening comes up or every 5 years. This is a big problem because many of the people at the CRTC have investments in companies that deal with the CRTC that creates a conflict of interest. The way I see it another problem with the CRTC is they really don't care about the customers they only care about who can grease their palms. I'm hoping that bill C-555 comes into law but that won't happen for at least a year and it mostly address add fees. I also hope that Globalive wins the spectrum auction and we get a fourth carrier here. As for T-Mobile opening shop here again the CRTC turned it's back on the customers and allowed the monopolies to continue, I'm sure Bell or Rogers greased a few palms on that decision. AFAIK Apple will be selling iPhone in the Apple Stores in the UK as they did before. IIRC the agreement is still 02 stores, Carphone Warehouse and Apple Stores. Technobob
Victory!http://www.cfra.com/?cat=2&nid=58069 This is no victory this is a joke, 6GB is still not enough we want unlimited plus it's only being offered for a limited time. With 6GB that breaks down to only 200MB a day, for some that's plenty but for me I would use up that 6GB in a week or less. I enjoy watching podcasts, Youtube and other IPTV shows, some of my podcasts I watch are 300 to 400MB each. Plus we are still paying a high price for air time compared to the US & UK and are still being forced into a 3 year contract. Then there is the outrages overage charges at $0.50 per MB so if I went over and did not notice then decided to watch one of my larger podcasts I could be facing hundreds of dollars in extra charges a month. Hey technobob, do you surf howardforums.com? I have never been there but I will have a look around, thanks for the link Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/114553-apple-allegedly-sanctioning-rogers-for-iphone-rates/#findComment-813706 Share on other sites
Headrush69
Victory!http://www.cfra.com/?cat=2&nid=58069 I don't see it on the Rogers site yet, anyone have a link? Is this limited to only as an addition to a voice plan? I would consider getting an iphone and just a data plan, but voice + data + features + access fees is just too expensive for a secondary phone for me. Hold on a second. You can't download podcasts over the air, and you probably won't be able to watch IPTV over the air since there is no Flash player. You probably won't be tethering either since it's not officially supported and is quite a lengthly hack to get working. So there goes your 6GB/wk. Besides the 6GB limit is right around what we in the USA will get. Our plans are advertised as "unlimited," but they kick you off if you go much over 5GB. As for the higher prices - you pay higher prices for everything, not just cell phone service. I had never planned to run the stock firmware I would have unlocked it. I'm sure at some point native flash support will be added.
