Could you tell me what to do when I've got this kext? The step by step please to imput it on the iso... Where do I find this kext on my 10.4.3 install?? Thank you!!

You can find it - like most kextfiles - in the folder /system/library/extensions/

hope that helps B)

Oh, lol ;) sorry...

Ermm, ok, try installing it from VMWare (Workstation 5.5) under Windows. That's what I did. That will probably allow you to install it with mouse and keyboard support. We can figure out how to get the kext accross later...

Or, you can download a handy little program called Transmac (give it a Google). Transmac will let you open Mac drives and images, so it will give you access to all the files on the DVD image. From there, you can take the 10.4.3 kext (from /System/Library/Extensions), and add it to the 10.4.4 DVD (in the same directory). Then burn, and install.

Sadly there isn't a /System/Library/Extensions on the dvds... I need to go to /System/Installations/Packages/Essentials.pkg/Contents/Archive.pax.gz ... it's a little bit more complicated...

if you want it working when booting from the dvd you need to add a Extensions.mkext with that kext in, you can also install it in vmware where mouse & keyboard work add the kext to the installed os and boot in native hoping that it works

Ah sorry *g* you are talking about the install dvd... lol I was wondering

1. Convert

hdiutil convert /path/to/filename.dmg -format UDTO -o /path/to/savefile.iso

2. mount it readwrite

hdiutil attach -readwrite <dragyourimage here>

3. the problem.

You can built an mkext with the desired kext by doing kextcache -k something, but read here

Can one copy the ext to /System/Library/Extensions on the DVD, install, and then use transmac from XP to copy the file over to the installed system?

i.e. will you get USB support for the purpose of installing OSX 10.4.4/5 by simply adding the ext file on the DVD?

I am tryng to avoid having to create a new mext file on the install DVD.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm having the same trouble. Mouse and keyboard work in VMware (where I did the install) but my usb mouse and keyboard don't work in native. :(

I also do not have access to the IOUSBFamily.kext from 10.4.3, and the only one for 10.4.3 on Apple's site is for PPC.

After this one, all I have left is fixing the VIAATA kext and I'll be set. Woohoo!
