hi, sorry for the late reply, ive been busy these few days and i havent been able to try it out,

anyway

i tried it just now, and i have a problem lol

you know how when you boot from the leopard dvd you can press f8? well, when do i do it when i boot from the hdd. i dont seem to have an opportunity to

i get to the part where im given a choice of 2 partitions to boot from, one with xp, one with leopard. i can select the leopard one and press enter, but it just goes straight to the video. i can press -v, and it shows all the text, but nothing useful.

oh, ive just thought, could i press -s here? or am i wrong again lol?

thanks for all the help so far by the way, and thanks in advance

thanks, i did what you said, and it sort of works

i got to the part where i type passwd root # #, it works, but when i type the password in, nothing comes up, its as if my keyboard is disabled apart from the enter key.

is there something im missing? i know it will be a mistake that i'm doing lol

thanks.

thanks, it works now, i can boot right into leopard and it works fine!

however, i dont seem to be able to connect my external hard drive in. same with my modem (both via USB)

EDIT: woops, i thought my external drive was still NTFS and not FAT32, my mistake, again!

I'm delighted to help, I've been down your road, and glad i got support also or else i'd still be lost.. Pass it on now you are a tiny bit of an expert in the field, lol.. Enjoy Leopard on your computer, hope all works.. I had an issue in my wireless could never get it to work, so back to winxp... :thumbsdown_anim:

Thanks for this tutorial, I'm about to use it to install OS X on my sister's 5150 (She saw it on mine and was like... Woah!)

The problem with XP for her is that she only uses it for Word/Excel/Powerpoint, MSN Messenger, and using the internet. And she always gets viruses...

So yeah, I'll try installing this now. Burning the format & make bootable CD to start off. Hopefully it'll go alright because the wireless card that she uses is a Belkin F5D7001, which apparently will work fine if you choose all the WiFi drivers in the Kalyway install.

By the way, her computer uses the AtiX300 or something, I think. I'm guessing that I'll just move the monitor to the onboard graphics plug?

I'll get back to you with how it goes. :hysterical:

Ok....

I have been reading forums and checking sites and searching and trying various versions on OSX for X86...... I can't get it to work at all. I can get it to load in -s mode.... but in -s mode it will not let me do anything (since it is loaded from the DVD not the HDD). I cannot get it to install on the HDD.. I have tried many many switches and many different methods. Disabled everything in the BIOS and everything else. Plus I have tried it on a hundred different computers laptops and desktops. I am retarded. I think this may be a sign from God that I am not cut out for OSX. LOL.. I am a computer geek by trade and I have been messing with computers since the timex sinclair.... but this {censored} here... this {censored} right here... no dice. LOL Please someone help this aspiring mac wannabe. PLEASE. thanks in advance.

I type -v for verbose mode... and then appears the rare messages... then My PC reboots! and Darwin appears again!

PLEASE HELP ME!

  • 1 month later...

I installed iAtkos 10.5.7 and sound works, wifi works, you can get full resolution by editing the boot.plist

The most annoying thing is the touchpad, has anyone made any headway on getting them both working???

Accelerated graphics would be awesome as well...

Hi!

I installed the kalyway 10.5.2 dvd on my Sony Vaio CR 140 E/B(specs shown below) and got it to work except the Gfx resolution cannot go above 1024 x 768 and the USB isnt working and is not recognized. I know this isnt a hardware error because i also have windows 7 running on another partition and everything works fine there. Is there any way to get this fixed? Any kexts..ect? Oh and is there another kext to get my wifi working? i tried a bunch of sites with no luck. :) Any help is appreciated :D

Thanks!

I have a Dell Dimension 5150 with standard specs

I have a standard Dell Dimension 5100 (3Ghz P4/1Gb RAM/160Gb HDD/Nvidia GEForce 6800) but with a Linksys WMP54G installed and it worked for me. Except sound - despite installing your attached Sigmatel9220.zip I can't get a peep out of the machine - it did not work without the Sigmatel kext either - and yes, I tried both black and green ports. Not sure why it doesn't work, perhaps the 5100 doesn't have a Sigmatel sound card.

[uPDATE 1]

I take that last statement back - the 5100 does have a Sigmatel sound card, I just checked the config on the Dell website.

[uPDATE 2]

It didn't take long to figure out the sound issue - it's all here in this forum but I thought I'd compile it into a few lines :

Download and install the latest HDApatcher from here :

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32859

Copy/Move the app to /System/Library/Extensions

Download codec_Sigma9220.txt from here :

http://psykopat.free.fr/apple/AppleHDA/

then drag n drop it onto the app HDApatcher icon

Reboot

Yes it is important to "Partition" the drive and not "erase" it - why?

On my first attempt the "Welcome" screen cycled back to the "Identify Keyboard" screen over and over - I can't see how it would be related to whether the drive is partitioned or erased.

In the optional software/drivers section :

I selected the Nvida driver under Graphics Drivers

I selected the Broadcom driver under Network Drivers (wifi)

I selected TimeMachine and USBPCGen under Patches

Otherwise I [un]selected as you suggested

I skipped the root passwd section

Apart from no sound the System Profiler ("About This Mac" --> "More Info") crashes when run

Otherwise it behaves exactly like a Mac

Excellent work and thanks to all involved

HELP ME..

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi all, as a newbie, I have spent hours on this and made numerous installations made lots of disks, eventually the only one that seemed bootable was Ideneb but I followed this guide to the letter as I have the same pc. I now have sound, ethernet, QE/CI the lot! but at reboots it suddenly won't boot into the system. I just ran I deneb again just installing some of the apps. and now I am back in. Kenel panic on dmg. install though. But thrilled with the expertise here, thanks

  • 3 months later...

Hi im new to this and i need help i have followed the instructions you posted to the letter but on the install it pops up with "could not validate essentials package" which is frustrating lol

i have also tried leo4all but i could find anything about what kernels to use so i gave up.

my pc is a Dell Dimension 5150

the spec is the same as a standard one but i have but 2G of ram in and it has a Radeon HD4650 graphics card could this affect the installation or do i need to burn a new disk as a lower speed ?

if anyone could get back to me that would be grate ;)
