mahen.s9
I have a Dell Dimension 5150 with standard specs Requirements - Dell Dimension 5150 - "Format and Make HD Bootable for Leopard" by Kalyway - Kalyway Leopard 10.5.2 DVD Intel Amd (sse2/sse3) EFI V8 - AppleHDA.kext (for Sigmatel 9220 audio) - attached below Steps 1.) First, boot into "Format and Make HD Bootable for Leopard" 2.) Once loaded into DVD, go to Utilities -> Disk Utility 3.) Next, click the Volume you wish to install Leopard on. DO NOT ERASE THE VOLUME!!!! Instead, go to partition and choose "Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)". Give the drive the name you want and click "Partition". 4.) Once done, exit Disk Utility and continue installing the package. 5.) Once the computer restarts, boot into the Kalyway 10.5.2 Install disk. You do not need to erase the drives or anything because you've already done so. 6.) Continue with the install until you get to the screen right before installation begins. Click Customize. 7.) Now, UNCHECK EVERYTHING except... Kernels - Sleep kernel - Speed Step kernel Graphics Drivers - Intel GMA 950 Network Drivers - This depends on your computer. I recommend selecting nothing and working on it once your in Leopard. Mobo Chipsets - Select ALL Patches - TimeMachineFix (optional) - USBPCGen (optional, but recommended) 8.) Run the installation. Wait until the computer reboots. 9.) As the computer is rebooting and you get to the Darwin bootloader, hit F8. 10.) Type the following code: (the stuff you actually type is in quotes) - type "-s" and then press enter - type "/sbin/fsck -fy" and then press enter - type "/sbin/mount -uw /" and then press enter - type "passwd root ##" and press enter - you will know be prompted to put in your password twice. Do so and press enter. - type "touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone and press enter - type "exit" and press enter. you will now be booted into Leopard. 11.) Once at the login screen, type "root" for username and the password you set for the password. Congratulations. You are now in Leopard. 12.) Now to work on your sound. Unzip the attached "Sigmatel9220.zip". Move "AppleHDA.kext" to /System/Library/Extensions. 13.) Repair permissions in Disk Utility. 14.) Reboot and you should have sound (Note: You should have your speakers plugged into the BLACK port, not the green) 15. Congratulations, you know have Leopard up and working. Please leave your comments below. Thanks to lonewolf67 and the entire osX86 community in general. I have a question, have the same setup as you do, but what is the top part for. Is that just bypassing the initial setup of the Mac OS? And for the root password, do you actually type 'passwd root ##" ? Sorry, probably a dumb question, but have to ask. Sorry, probably a dumb question, but have to ask.Well, my install kept getting stuck at the initial setup of Mac OS. If yours works, then you do not have to complete this step. However, if your setup freezes like mine, then run this.do you think this would work on VMWare?I'm not sure, but I've never had great experiences with installing Mac on a virtual OS. 5942marine
Just tried on Mac Vmware fusion, wouldn't boot up. Curious, but how stable would you say it is. Hey, another question, I have a x1950gt card, should I of selected that for the drive, or used your method?Well, don't use my method if it doesn't apply to you. I've put the bare minimum recommended patches because if you select too many there is a great possibility of your system crashing. So select what you feel is best for your computer. But remember, this whole process is trial and error. So if it doesnt work, just try again. But personally, i don't install any of that until after i have the system working. Again stuck, I tried iatkosv1.0r2 and now kalyway and both wont work properly. Maybe i am going to try leo4all v3 or do you have any advice? ciao Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/100548-kalyway-1052-full-guide/#findComment-721168 Share on other sites

Hit F8 again at Darwin bootloader. Then type: -x -v "Graphics Mode"="640x480x32" At this resolution, the setup assistant is bypassed. Once you are into the Leopard desktop, go to system prefs to set ur admin password. Then reboot and start working on whatever else you need to do. mahen.s9
tried that too but then gets stuck again en then boots a new setup from the dvd. Hmmm...I suggest trying a different Leopard version. I hear JaS has a new version coming out (am i right?) If so, then i recommend trying this as I used to use his versions of Tiger as they were extremely reliable. But look around the forum for a different version, download it, and try it again. Good luck! I had this problem, too. For me, at least, it was simple. I had the Kalyway Leo disk in the drive. It was booting from the DVD and not from the HDD. I shutdown, removed the DVD and rebooted, hit F8 and presto... it worked beautifully. My setup: - Dell Dimension 9100 - 4GB DRAM - 250GB HDD - 10.5.2 only (no dual boot--I switched to Apple last year and reserve Windows for only the VMWare world ) Using the methods on these forums, I was able to turn my Dell that essentially was sitting in a box after I bought my first Apple last October, into a nice testbed machine. Thanks to all who have put there 2 cents worth in! That being said, I must say that it was fairly easy to get it running except for the network adapter. With the patches I found here, however, I was able to make that happen. One word of caution, though... if you "Repair Permissions" AFTER installing the new IONetworkXXXXXX.kext file, it killed the network for me and I had to redo the whole process. Megnus
Can you have two kernels at the same time? When I installed, I only checked the vanilla kernel. luh3417
@megnus you can have half a dozen kernels. there's some easy way to switch between them when you boot. I forget what it is though. One way is, your various kernels live in / the root directory, so you cp a copy of the kernel you want on top of mach_kernel. When I boot into "Format and Make HD Bootable for Leopard" it just hangs at System config file... boot.plist... not found. Any ideas? I gave up on that CD and just formatted guid off the Kaly 10.5.2 DVD. But, I'm on a gigabyte, not a Dell. When I did /sbin/mount -uw /, I got a bunch of errors about disk1s2 not writable. Then passwd command is not found. I think this is because I didn't remove the DVD during the reboot, even though I'm thought I told it to boot from hard disk. Maybe there is a step 8b: Remove DVD. You have to be very exact with us newbies. I didn't need to type all those commands; I just went through the Apple registration rain dance; maybe its simpler to bypass it. mahen.s9
Can you have two kernels at the same time? When I installed, I only checked the vanilla kernel. Yes, but I don't recommend it. And if you're kernel doesn't work, then press F8 at boot and type in a different kernel to load. But if you have a Dell Dimension 5150 as I do, then I highly recommend selecting the Speedstep Kernel or the Modbin Kernel. sama7896
there's some easy way to switch between them when you boot. the kernels to be tested must be at root, call them mach_test_1 , _2 and so on to test them just write at the startup prompt mach_test_1 (or whatever) if you're satisfied with the kernel boot with -x and write those two lines at the end then : cp /mach_kernel /mach_kernel_old cp /mach_test_1 /mach_kernel sudo chown -R root:wheel /mach_kernel sudo chmod -R 755 /mach_kernel that's all there is to it PS: You cannot install from the installdvd more kernels at a time, only one will be installed, you can however test them latter after you extract them with pacifist from the dvd Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/100548-kalyway-1052-full-guide/#findComment-724220 Share on other sites
