This resulted in me doing the following much simpler process. 1. Install 10.4.7 from JaS dvd 2. Install the 10.4.8.SSE2 beta 9 update 3. Crash (Curse becuase I'm assuming that I have to start over) restart 4. Restarts correctly uname reports 8.8.1 5. Copy loginwindow and restart. About box works 6. Follow nvidia directions and profiler reports QE supported Yay I had the same result on my 5150, right after the beta 9 install, finder locks up, and i have to hard shutdown, and reboot to continue. but it all works out fine. Question: does your display come up every time, or does it randomly show black screen with no GUI? would like to solve this if i can. I have had to use the iTunes 7 as ppc workaround and safari is messed up because I installed a security update. When I use titan and change the kext's, everything goes ok except the LCD on my widescreen laptop has thin black vertical lines accross it, which is distorting the screen. I've generated a screenshot which looks ok, but its not the view I get on the LCD. Is this a problem with a modeline on the lcd in one of the kexts. I found out that com.apple.windowserver.plist can be edited to disable BeamSync* (LCD monitors only!) and enable Quartz 2D Extreme. You need to have a fully QE/CI enabled video card to do this, and it will allow the GUI in Mac OS X to be a lot faster. The dock animation will be a lot smoother, same with Dashboard and minimize/maximize effects. So get started, and speed up your GUI! Open up com.apple.windowserver.plist (Spotlight it) via Property List Editor. Click the arrow next to "Root", and under Quartz2DExtremeEnable, make the value "Yes". Then, click the "Compositor" arrow, set the deferredUpdates vaule to 0. Save the file (if you don't have permission to, go to the file in Finder, right-click it and press "Get Info". Set the permissions to allow admin and your name to Read & Write). After editing com.apple.windowserver.plist, open up Disk Utility and run "Repair Disk Permissions". Reboot, and open up System Profiler, go to the graphics tab and make sure it shows "Quartz 2D Extreme" is supported (screenshot). Also, double check com.apple.windowserver.plist to make sure the deferredUpdates value is still set to 0. *Please remember, you only need to change this particular value if you have an LCD-monitor. You can check that you did everything correctly by checking the screenshot attached in this post. @andy_bon: I'm not sure why it is causing those lines, maybe I haven't had any of those problems so I wouldn't know. Sorry! @Lamun: You have Mac OS X 10.4.8, correct? You also need to have an updated 8.8.1 kernel. Did you try following the post above to enable Quartz 2D Extreme and disable BeamSync (disabling BeamSync for LCD monitors only)? When i reboot i have a black screen and i can't do anything. I have a vaio laptop fs315h (intel 915gm) and i installed jas 10.4.8 amd intel sse2 sse3 semthex 8.8.1 kernel Do you have an idea what else i can try to make this card working properly?
