stuppy_
Hi Just wondering what your thoughts on whether using the GM build of Lion is a good idea? Are there likely to be any changes from GM to final release? Aside from a few minor issues - it seems pretty stable on my computer - so just wondering - should I switch now or wait? Thanks
nixola
I just installed a couple days ago, no sings of instability or any other slowdown so give it a shot if u think. But the final version is just around the corner.
thepretender
Unless something big was missed in the preview editions Gold Master is the same code as final release. I can't do a clean install and use all my photoshop plug-ins and even with upgrade install some are broken. but other than that seems good to me. http://www.macworld.com/article/160912/2011/07/lion_gm.html

smartie77
I just installed a couple days ago, no sings of instability or any other slowdown so give it a shot if u think. But the final version is just around the corner. me too- I love it. Not even a kernel panic now after installation. Seems as stable as 10.6.8. all apps working. ilife11 + aperture3 have been updated by apple to support the new fullscreen mode. Aperture is even faster now it seems. All of my 3rd party kexts (sound, trackpad, wifi,LAN ) from SL work in Lion ( i used 64bit all the time so no issues ) . Only Ralinks wifi utility has issues with fullscreen activation, then it pops up on its own - I found a replacement for it, a menubar item/prefpane mix. Tried the Server App for Lion GM, turns OSX into OSX server, also no issues - everything still working . That's all. Definatelly will stick with Lion on my Laptop and if this GM is not the release bit , then the final thing must be even more stable. So no problem. Even if I need to reformat it, I would do. Have time machine backups and kexts on usb sticks - so nothing to loose. I will buy it however from appstore and burn the installer to dvd just like all Apple customers will take care of a backup . If I need to install it, will be seen by the Buildnumber. But I pay for my software that i use on a day to day base.
121fred
Yes works with pretty much everything, feels snappier than snow. Using all the time now, go for it.
PippoX0
Yea, Lion GM is pretty good ( it should be almost the same of retail one) The only lack is than we will cannot get updates from Apple Software Update. If we can get around this ( like install retail over GM to get full version or patch GM to get updates ... ) this should be better PippoX0
blade5502
If the release Version = GM Version (=11A511) you'd be fin with it. If not you'd get no Updates. I moved to Lion yesterday and it works like a charm

I also can not imagine that Apple will use Appstore for the point releases / delta updates. They will update the full installer/dmg package for those that buy Lion later, but updates will come automatic via SU, I am very sure. See how they deal with Final Cut X which is also Appstore exclusive - after you have it installed, SU will offer you a "Content Update" and "Quicktime PRO codecs. No Appstore used, only for purchase of the main app. Or Xcode4 - it loads tons of documentation from a source inside its app, not via Appstore or SU.
