The thing preventing further kernel progress in our hacintoshes, in Maxxuss's own words:

It's all about HPET, Enhanced Power Management, and possibly EFI support on the kernel.

I believe this is the sole reason why Maxxuss lost interest in this matter. It requires a HUGE hack now.

Does this mean that all we need is to buy the compatible hardware? Conroe CPU?

Actually looking forward to that

Hey everyone

I'm not new to computers but am relatively new to the hackint0sh scene,

I've been reading on this site for a while and have a fully running 10.4.8 installon my dell laptop and am willing to do anything i can to help the process of getting leopard working. If anyone can think of anything i can do just say so, and i am also decent at programming and have used *nix systems for a long time.

Two options I assume are:

1. Get the source and compile again, without the stupid hardware checks.

2. Wait for apple to get their head out of their asses and open it up to the masses and let any Intel run Mac OSX.

Drivers will come if apple opens up their OS. They're just worried that their neo-apple hardware late' drinkers will buy Dells because they're cheaper.

See the sticker that says "Made in China"? I can see people paying more for good design... They can just charge their usual inflated price and people that don't want it will just not buy it. Hell, raise the price so it's $500 for just just the OS. I would still get it as long as it worked with my existing hardware.

Apple iiidiot execs. Talk about monopolistic practices.

Why on earth would Apple sell OS X for regular PCs is beyond me. They are after all a hardware company, not a software company. So they are supposed to sell their hardware and in order to sell their hardware they are using basically two things, design and os.

The benefits of it won't justify the cost to make OS X operable on every PC. Their target market won't expand tremendously. There are people, who need Windows, who want to play games on their PCs, who want the use the software they've been using, who want to use the os they're used to do etc. So what you're saying isn't very logical. Let's raise the price so it's $500. Who is going to buy it, except you? 10 more people? 10000 more people? Still doesn't worth it. And there are companies, who have hundreds of PCs running on Windows. Are they going to change all of their operating systems AND other software just for that OS X is available for their PCs?

If everyone just wanted an OS solely on if it's supporting their hardware, they would at least give Linux a try. I mean, with Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS, Sabayon, SuSE, Fedora and other useable distros, it's pretty easy to use linux for everyday purposes.

They make their profit by selling hardware, so they will stuck by it. Just like Microsoft, a software company (which has some hardware branches) tries to make profit by selling software like Windows Vista.

So, instead of calling some people idiots, just think more on the subject. The world doesn't revolve around you and people like you. There are other people with different views and in order to succeed in the business world, you have to take the whole market into account.

“The big secret about Apple, of course–not-so-big secret maybe–is that Apple views itself as a software company..." - Steve Jobs @ D5

Ok then, my bad. Apple is a software company which won't release OS X for PC's. Because "You know, we don’t have a belief that the Mac is going to take over 80% of the PC market.".

And after all that ipod, iphone, imacs and other non i-stuff, seeing Apple as a software company doesn't seem very logical... At least to me, not to Steve Jobs.
