Well First Off Were You Able To Fix Your Kexts Looking Like Folders Problem?

Second You Can Always Try To Start Your MacOSX Using -F

Third You Could Try The Appleps2 Kext That Would Be Another Option

hope that helps and if it doesnt you should try and learn how to boot into safemode or verbose mode and see what happens from there

You Should Have A Boot File In Root If You Cant see It Use This Command To Unhide Files

Launch Utilities/Termimal and enter:

Code: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES (press enter)

When you no longer want it visible, write:

Code: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO (Then You Can Replace The Boot File With The One You Want )

Hope That Helps.............

Thanks. Removed the arch=i386 string and the x86_64 kernel booted but I got a Kernel panic. Best info I can give is:

Kernel extensions in backtrace

com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform

dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily

dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily

com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily

I was able to boot using the "arch=i386" boot flag. I'll google around some tomorrow and if I find anything that resolves this issue I will post it.

Thanks again.

Okay. like most other folks who have had this issue found it was due to the gmax950 kexts and a corrupt DSDT. I just removed the offending kexts since I didn't need them and it didn't help. And since the DSDT that I am using is the same that deviato is using and he is able to boot the x86_64 kernel I am assuming that isn't the issue. So, unless anyone else has a different solution I will just have to be content with a 32 bit kernel. There are worse problems to have!

Thanks-

Maybe the VoodooPS2 or VoodooHDA kext.

The official versions are compiled for 32bit and caused a kp to me too.

The last time I reinstalled, I chose no extra extension/patch, only PS2Patch to make keyboard work (I used Snow Leo Hazard client/server)

And now it's the turn of the sound card..

The VoodoHDA module supplied in this post is compiled for 32bit only.. Always the same problem, I want 64bit. Searching other forums, I've found a pre-VoodooHDA 0.2.53 compiled for 64bit, another one that begins to support the volume control, but still far from what I need. So, I tried with AppleHDA Patching, and after having no luck with HDAEnabler or HDEFInject, I've compiled a dsdt.aml + a modified AppleHDA (taken from another forum).

Now I got 64bit support, volume control and internal mic working!

Here it is: http://www.multiupload.com/LJY5L9UKD9

-Please delete or backup all other audio modules from /System/Library/Extensione (AppleHDA.kext, VoodooHDA.kext, VoodooHDAHelper, HDAEnabler.kext, HDEFEnabler.kext, LegacyAppleHDA.kext) before installing this one.

AppleHDA updated to version 1.7.9a4 (as found in 10.6.2 update)

I was just working to get my keyboard and trackpad fully functional...

The best solution I've found is to remove ApplePS2Controller in favor of VoodooPS2Controller (for 64bit, I think is the same as yours).

Moreover, I've modified the kext, assembling other pieces, to get all keys working on my keyboard (Italian, ISO type), the Alps trackpad to get tapping and 2 finger scrolling. As a drawback, I had speed problems like you, so I modified Trackpad.prefpane by myself.

So, for all the 1545 owners, this is the package, all in 64bit:

http://www.multiupload.com/DCR28SBFGW

Remember to put Trackpad.prefpane in /System/Library/PreferencePanes, and to install also AppleACPIPS2Nub (supplied in the package), or your keyboard won't work!

Got the 64 bit kernel to boot. I cleaned out my Extensions folder and repaired permissions. These are the extensions that I kept. Does it look like I deleted anything that might cause me problems in the future? I couldn't do without the voodoops2 or my kbd and trackpad wouldn't work-

Well, this has been frustrating mostly because I think I came close but no cigar. I'm SO tempted to toss the hackintosh idea, but my frugal nature dictates that I make one last bonafide attempt before laying out $.

My hardware:

Inspiron 1545

* Processors: Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4200 or T4300

* Memory: 4 GB of shared dual channel DDR2 SDRAM @ 800 MHz.

* Chipset: Intel GM45 Express Chipset.

* Graphics Processor: integrated Intel GMA X4500MHD graphics 256 MB of graphics memory.

* LCD Display: 15.6" CCFL-backlit widescreen with a 1366 × 768 and TrueLife or 15.6" WLED-backlit widescreen with 1366 × 768 resolution 15.6" or WLED-backlit display with 1600 × 900 resolution and TrueLife.

* Hard Drive: 500 GB SATA at 5400 RPM.

* Optical Drive: 8X tray-load dual-layer DVD+/-RW drive.

* Battery: 4-cell (37 Whr)

* Camera: 1.3 MP webcam with optional facial recognition software

* Wi-Fi Card: Dell Wireless 1397 802.11b/g half mini-card

* I/O ports: 3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 Fast Ethernet port, 1 VGA output, 1 headphone jack, 1 microphone jack, 1 Express Card slot, 1 7-in-1 memory card reader, and 1 power adapter connecter.

I downloaded and burned the SL132 boot install cd and fired up the machine. Booted Chameleon without problems. Exchanged the SL132 boot for the OSX 106 retail DVD which I booted without any parameters.

To my absolute shock, OSX booted into the install menu. I erased the entire disk and formatted GUID with a single partition for OSX. (I had previously attempted dual boot but decided to keep it simple this last time.

Installed OSX with only English language, no Rosetta, no printers. Rebooted through the SL132 / chameleon.

On reboot, I had wifi and webcam.

NO sound, no native resolution.

Applied the audio kext which gave me sound but only at full volume.

Applied the 2 display kexts but was unable to copy the dsdt file to the hdd root. Finder wouldn't let me drag and drop the file and terminal wouldn't let me manually copy it.

Installed chameleon to the HDD and rebooted without the SL132 disk.

Chameleon started and found OSX. Attempted to boot OSX and got hit with Kernel Panic.

WHAT AM I MISSING HERE? At this piont, I would be happy to get OSX running even without native resolution, but Kernel Panic is obviously a deal breaker. Is this totally not going to work or is there some essential step that I neglected? Thanks in advance for your assistance, suggestions and insults.

I had this problem at one point. I can't remember the kext that was causing my problems but the way I solved it was to remove the kext. I did this by booting with the -v option and noted the kext that caused the kernel panic. I then booted using the SL132 disk and Snow Leopard Retail. Once I got into the install process from the CD I brought up a terminal using the utilities menu and removed the problem kext. I could then reboot from the hard disk.

Depending on the kext you might need to replace it and not just remove it to get your system to boot. You can use a usb flash drive to get the needed kext on your hard drive and then use the disk utility to rebuild permissions.

Also make sure your booting in 32bit. At Chameleon prompt, hit down arrow and enter "arch=i386 -v" without quotes. This will let you see whats goin on and also ensure that your booting in 32bit architecture

Remember to put Trackpad.prefpane in /System/Library/PreferencePanes, and to install also AppleACPIPS2Nub (supplied in the package), or your keyboard won't work!

So i installed this, it didnt let me insert the pref plane, for it was just hitting some key continually. So i restarted, and now it wont start, any sugestions?? Tried -x, -f, -s. It stops at loading the controller...

So every time i try to boot with anything other than safe mode my screen looks like a 1950's T.V. screen all full of static. When i boot in safe mode, MAC doesnt recognize my flash drive so i cant install the kexts or updates. Any ideas?

Greetings All:

Just a quick note to inform and confirm that this OSX86 installation method also works on the low end DELL Inspiron 1545, i.e. DUAL T4300 processor, GMA 4500, broadcom 4313 wireless. I installed this morning and booted from chameleon. Wifi works out of the box, so I immediately installed the updates including 10.6.2. I installed the Voodoo kext to get sound but I can't adjust the sound level, yet. I will attempt to get native resolution later today.

The fix seemed to be installing the "extras" items, something I neglected to do when I last wrote this post What am I missing?.
