  1. Untill QE is fixed, you can replace it with an app called justlooking. Works fine without QE and does the same thing as preview. When you install it will ask you if you want to use it instead of preview, answer yes.
  2. First- thanks again Dorean for the tutorial. I have SL 10.6.2 running well using only info from this thread. I used your initial instructions EXCEPT for sound and video, for which I used Deviato's excellent /dsdt.aml and /boot, along with the AppleHDA.kext from the above post for sound. The best part about using Deviato's method instead of voodoohda.kext is with his method I can adjust the sound from the volume applet and the keyboard. My concern is that if, I mean when... a kext comes out for the GMA4500 that supports QE/CI I'll have to go back to voodoo for audio. Is that correct Deviato?
  3. need help for intel (0x8086)

@srikanthkalangi This subject really isn't covered well in these boards nor on the net in general, so I can see why you'd have trouble.... Best bet is to download Deviato's work and follow his instructions: http://deviato.wordpress.com/2010/02/24/ch...-gma-version-2/ Good luck!
  4. Got the 64 bit kernel to boot. I cleaned out my Extensions folder and repaired permissions. These are the extensions that I kept. Does it look like I deleted anything that might cause me problems in the future? I couldn't do without the voodoops2 or my kbd and trackpad wouldn't work- I am using the /boot and /dsdt.aml from deviato's latest post (re:audio). jameshall$ ls /System/Library/Extensions ACard6280ATA.kext ACard62xxM.kext ACard67162.kext ACard671xSCSI.kext ACard6885M.kext ACard68xxM.kext ALF.kext ATTOCelerityFC.kext ATTOCelerityFC8.kext ATTOExpressPCI4.kext ATTOExpressSASHBA.kext ATTOExpressSASHBA2.kext ATTOExpressSASRAID.kext Accusys6xxxx.kext Apple16X50Serial.kext AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext AppleACPIPlatform.kext AppleAHCIPort.kext AppleAPIC.kext AppleBMC.kext AppleBacklight.kext AppleEFIRuntime.kext AppleFSCompressionTypeZlib.kext AppleFWAudio.kext AppleFileSystemDriver.kext AppleGraphicsControl.kext AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext AppleHDA.kext AppleHIDKeyboard.kext AppleHIDMouse.kext AppleHPET.kext AppleHWSensor.kext AppleIRController.kext AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext AppleIntelCPUPowerManagementClient.kext AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext AppleKeyswitch.kext AppleLPC.kext AppleLSIFusionMPT.kext AppleMCEDriver.kext AppleMIDIFWDriver.plugin AppleMIDIIACDriver.plugin AppleMIDIRTPDriver.plugin AppleMIDIUSBDriver.plugin AppleMatch.kext AppleMikeyHIDDriver.kext AppleMobileDevice.kext AppleOnboardDisplay.kext ApplePlatformEnabler.kext AppleProfileFamily.kext AppleRAID.kext AppleRAIDCard.kext AppleRTC.kext AppleSEP.kext AppleSMBIOS.kext AppleSMBusController.kext AppleSMBusPCI.kext AppleSMC.kext AppleSMCLMU.kext AppleSmartBatteryManager.kext AppleStorageDrivers.kext AppleTyMCEDriver.kext AppleUSBAudio.kext AppleUSBDisplays.kext AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext AppleUSBMultitouch.kext AppleUSBTopCase.kext AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext AppleVADriver.bundle AppleXsanFilter.kext Apple_iSight.kext ArcMSR.kext AudioIPCDriver.kext BJUSBLoad.kext BootCache.kext CalDigitHDProDrv.kext CellPhoneHelper.kext DSACL.ppp DSAuth.ppp DVFamily.bundle Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext EAP-KRB.ppp EAP-RSA.ppp EAP-TLS.ppp EPSONUSBPrintClass.kext HighPointIOP.kext HighPointRR.kext ICAFWKodakProDriver.kext IO80211Family.kext IOACPIFamily.kext IOAHCIFamily.kext IOATAFamily.kext IOAudioFamily.kext IOBDStorageFamily.kext IOBluetoothFamily.kext IOBluetoothHIDDriver.kext IOCDStorageFamily.kext IODVDStorageFamily.kext IOFireWireAVC.kext IOFireWireFamily.kext IOFireWireIP.kext IOFireWireSBP2.kext IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext IOGraphicsFamily.kext IOHDIXController.kext IOHIDFamily.kext IONDRVSupport.kext IONetworkingFamily.kext IOPCIFamily.kext IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily.kext IOSCSIParallelFamily.kext IOSMBusFamily.kext IOSerialFamily.kext IOStorageFamily.kext IOStreamFamily.kext IOSurface.kext IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext IOVideoFamily.kext ImmersionForceFeedback.kext JMicronATA.kext L2TP.ppp LexmarkUSBMerge.kext LogitechForceFeedback.kext NVDANV40Hal.kext NVDANV50Hal.kext NVDAResman.kext NVSMU.kext NullCPUPowerManagement.kext OSvKernDSPLib.kext PPP.kext PPPSerial.ppp PPPoE.ppp PPTP.ppp Quarantine.kext Radius.ppp SM56KUSBAudioFamily.kext SMARTLib.plugin SMCMotionSensor.kext Sandbox.kext SoftRAID.kext System.kext TMSafetyNet.kext VoodooBattery.kext VoodooPS2Controller.kext autofs.kext cd9660.kext cddafs.kext fakesmc.kext hp_Deskjet_io_enabler.kext hp_Inkjet1_io_enabler.kext hp_Inkjet3_io_enabler.kext hp_Inkjet4_io_enabler.kext hp_Inkjet5_io_enabler.kext hp_Inkjet8_io_enabler.kext hp_Inkjet_io_enabler.kext hp_Laserjet_io_enabler.kext hp_Officejet_io_enabler.kext hp_PhotosmartPro_io_enabler.kext hp_Photosmart_io_enabler.kext hp_designjet_series.kext hp_io_printerclassdriver_enabler.kext hp_qc_io_enabler.kext iPodDriver.kext iTunesPhoneDriver.kext mcxalr.kext msdosfs.kext ntfs.kext smbfs.kext udf.kext ufs.kext webcontentfilter.kext webdav_fs.kext Also- I had to use the Trackpad.prefpane from the boot123 cd or my cursor went wildly fast. 5. Okay. like most other folks who have had this issue found it was due to the gmax950 kexts and a corrupt DSDT. I just removed the offending kexts since I didn't need them and it didn't help. And since the DSDT that I am using is the same that deviato is using and he is able to boot the x86_64 kernel I am assuming that isn't the issue. So, unless anyone else has a different solution I will just have to be content with a 32 bit kernel. There are worse problems to have! Thanks-
  6. Thanks. Removed the arch=i386 string and the x86_64 kernel booted but I got a Kernel panic. Best info I can give is: Kernel extensions in backtrace com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily I was able to boot using the "arch=i386" boot flag. I'll google around some tomorrow and if I find anything that resolves this issue I will post it. Thanks again.
  7. This is most excellent Deviato. Just installed- without a hitch. It is a bonus to be able to use the keyboard volume controls (f7-f9) instead of the voodoo prefpane which wouldn't remember the settings from session to session. Awesome. Much thanks! 64-bit question. I of course have the Dell Inspiron 1545 with the GMA4500. I am a little confused about my kernel. I assumed that since my machine reports that I have 4G of ram that I am running a 64-bit kernel. When I look in the System Profiler all of the extensions are 64-bit except for five that report being located within /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext/plugins: BSDKernel6.0 IOKit6.0 Libkern6.0 Mach6.0 System6.0 However, when I did a 'uname -a' this is what was reported, which makes me believe that I am running a 32-bit Kernel. Is that so, or am I misreading something? uname -a Darwin James-Halls-MacBook-Pro.local 10.2.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.2.0: Tue Nov 3 10:37:10 PST 2009; root:xnu-1486.2.11~1/RELEASE_I386 i386
  8. The permissions issue is because you as non-root user do not have write permissions to the /Extra directory. All you need to do is open it for editing using sudo. No need to install anything extra, unless you want to. Here is how I did it: $ sudo vim /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist If you don't like vim use pico, /Applications/TextEdit.app/contents/MacOS/TextEdit, emacs, or whatever text editor you like. This is great, but I'd change back to a kernel module in a minute if they get one with QE/CI working! Again, proper thanks to Doriean and Deviato!
  9. This is fantastic. This also fixed a problem that I had where the OS didn't accurately notice when I switched from battery to adapter and vice versa. I imagine that was because of the dsdt.aml. Here are the steps that I used: 1) Copied the 'boot' file from the zipfile into the root directory (cd ~/Downloads/chameleondell/ && sudo cp boot /boot) 2) Removed the dsdt.aml files (sudo rm /dsdt.aml && sudo rm /Extras/dsdt.aml) 3) Removed the appleintelgmax3100fb.kext (sudo rm -vr /System/Library/Extensions/appleintelgmax3100fb.kext) 4) Opened Kext Helper and checked 'advanced' then 'tag cache rebuild' then 'run ->' 5) Edited /Extras/com.apple.Boot.plist and changed '<string>1280x800x32</string>' to '<string>1366x768x32</string>' then I rebooted and had 1366x768 resolution plus the battery status applet in the menu bar showed the correct power state and changes accordingly when I unplug and plug in the power adapter. Big thanks to Doriean and Deviato!
  10. Oh well. The Image is 17G. I thought that I read that it was 6GiB.
  11. New AMD DVD for leopard

For a laptop this really is not a reasonable resolution though...
  12. I have a question... I do not have Windows. I am using only GNU/Linux. I also do not have an external HD. I believe; however, that I can still use this flat disk image. Here is my plan. Burn the ISO image that I unrar onto a DL DVD+R. Boot into my Gentoo Linux rescue CD and use Gparted to remove all of the partitions on my hard drive (/dev/sda). then execute in a terminal from the boot CD: $ dd if=/mnt/dvd/osx86-iso-file.iso of=/dev/sda $ reboot Does anyone know if this does/does not work? Or see a reason why it would not work? If not I'll let you know how it works for me...
  13. New AMD DVD for leopard

Was that just for the install? If so I believe I'll just stick with Ubuntu. If not then I am game to give it a go! Let me know JH
  14. New AMD DVD for leopard

I have spent hours trying to fix my problem of not having a touchpad or keyboard. I tried to find a resolution using the IOACPIFamily criteria, and have tried several boot options such as cpus=1 and many others. There are no BIOS options that pertain to this problem. Any suggestions?
