You may try this new solution. You don't need grub, linux anymore. Only replace chameleon with this patched one:

http://deviato.wordpress.com/2010/01/28/ch...r-snow-leopard/

Doesnt seem to change anything on my Dell Vostro 1015 with 4500MHD. I replaced the boot file on the root, restarted a few times, and it hasnt changed anything. When I try any of the other ways of getting 4500 working, i get a blue screen after the boot screen for 2 seconds, which then switches to a black screen until I reboot.

EDIT: It works! The default install of EmpireEFI put a Graphics Mode = 1024x768x32 in my com.apple.Boot.plist. After changing it to 1366x768x32, it works great. Thank you so much!

Hey all-

i have a problem that i cant seem to find a solution for, and cant seem to find a better spot to ask this question.

after i installed the AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext driver (the only one that worked to get my dell studio 15 to a working resolution), i'm having an issue where my mouse cursor shows up as a matrix of blue green and white lines. however, if i use cntrl+scroll to zoom in on the screen, the cursor turns back to normal until i zoom back out. i can't seem to find anywhere else where someone has had this problem. has anybody else ever seen or heard of this problem before, or know how to solve it?

Thanks

After going through pages of posts on this topic previously, I decided to start this new topic for ONLY SNOW LEOPARD INSTALLATION ON GMA 4500MHD laptops. I know it is not possible for now to have kexts supporting gma4500 graphics ..... that too on Snow Leopard Installation. Some hacked gma3100 kexts available for OSX 10.5 systems but nothing for 10.6.

Fine, but atleast I want to have my native resolution of 1366*768*32. But I cant find any solution. There are many solutions for 10.5.x. I tried them all , like..

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>"Graphics Mode"="1366x768x32"</string>

<string></string>

<key>Boot Graphics</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>Quiet Boot</key>

<string>No</string>

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>5</string>

</dict>

</plist>

or

adding "Graphics Mode" key & "1366x768x32 string in the com.apple.boot.plist

all in vein.....the 10.5.x tricks not applicable as the plist located on extra , not in /library/preferences/system configuration. I also tried putting the modified plist there but no solution. Still Stretched out 1024x768.

I'm really frustrated. Isn't it possible to have native resolution in Snow Leopard having GMA4500???

Please Help...& please dont frustrate me with any 10.5.x methods. Kexts or mods that really work on Snow Leopard are needed

HP Compaq CQ60-209TU

IntelGMA 4500M

Windows Vista

Windows 7

Snow Leopard 10.6.1 ... tripple boot

Search for GMX4500 kext

(GMX3100 kext) with black screen fix

I've tried them both but still get black screen and had to reinstall from scratch.

so use it at your own risk or just wait for the GMA4500 driver to be written.

Just a little sharing, dudes:

Deviato's method enables to change resolution with patched Chameleon RC4 bootloader..

PS: one resolution set while booting, you will not be able to switch resolution on system preferences..

The great thing is bootloader and the gray apple logo get native resolution too... Yeah looked so much2 better... :thumbsdown_anim:

(No kext installed..)

Modified X3100 kexts or patched with the 4500 bash script method will install the AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext on your system. This will enables you to switch resolution on system preferences, and also play with the Color Sync (Display Calibration). However, the bootloader and gray apple logo resolution not get changed...

So, Which one do you use then? Well, why not we installed both of them!! ;) ...:D :D :D :D :P..

They have no conflicts at all. ;)

Well, as we waiting for the QE/CI driver...

For image preview or grab (screen capture), you might wanna try this: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...202712&st=0

It's my situation too!!!! I strongly need that driver...I got an almost perfect hackitosh but it's annoying that I can't play any video on VLC!! :thumbsdown_anim:

For video you also can use this classic amazing player MPlayer or Quicktime with additional settings.

Really thank you mate!!

I don't really need to switch to other resolution since it's the biggest my monitor can take but I'd like to be able to do that just in case...

Could you please post or link me to the post of these modified kext?? Do they work with Snow Leopard 10.6.3?? Thanks a bunch for the suggestion...

PS I prefer Realplayer!! The best! :)

Greets!

Hope somebody sooner or later will Provide QE to our GMA4500...

Here you go...

(sorry been late... :D )

Manually patch with bash script:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=173338

Modified Kext:

http://www.kexts.com/view/258-gmax4500.html

Select one from above, both are the same method and give same results.

PS: After installed you might notice the color gamma change little brighter and red.. I think that default display color profiles apple made for x3100. You can change it with System Preferences too (Color tab).

Sorry dude,

There were some projects held but all of them are dead with no solution for this Grapich Card..

However, I think it might still have a small chance, if someone able to patch the new intel HD Grapich kexts to work on this card..

But some dude also say it is impossible.. What the Fu :censored2: N?

This from intel, looked pretty similar... right?

Yes...I know it is very difficult for a common user...and it seems that there aren't advanced user using this graphic card unfortunately!! :( The worst thing about most of notebook is the impossibility to replace the graphic card :(:(

Kenia1234:

You might like.. Not real solution of course.. just some thing to better viewing only

original Macbook Pro color profile "ColorLCD" ( i dont know why i dont have this on my OSX ):

http://www.mediafire.com/?z51ipn9x2omrqdk

transparent bar app (forgot where I found it), so i upload it also.. It make the top menu bar transparent (we would have it transparent if qe/ci enabled) :

http://www.mediafire.com/?lxjpzapdmtxixq0

--> You can make this always start at reboot with System Preferences->Accounts->Login Items.. the bar opacity can be set too.

actually guys, we can still watch some videos on our osx86. i tried real player and it seems great for me to play most the common video formats. but if only there is kext for gma 4500 mhd & qe/ci will be supported... then i can use most of the apps like iLife, iWorks, etc that requires qe/ci enabled. but for the moment, my laptop's performance is nothing different like a netbook.

Use Windows 7 or WinXp and forget about Mac os

The big problem of a notebook is the impossibility to change the graphic card...elsewhere I would have changed it a year ago like I did for the intel wifi-link 5100 card!! :)

For the rest my computer is a REAL mac!! :D I even scroll with 2 fingers...I m not gonna buy an intel based graphic card anymore!! And BTW it's really horrible this graphic card!! ;) I can't play a game on windows!!

you should never purchase a notebook with an onboard graphics card if you want to play games. always dedicated cards either nvidia or ati. and once you have a dedicated card in the notebook you can change most times (from ati to nvidia or vice versa).

just my two cents
