To be honest, both Snow Leopard and Snow Leopard Server works like a charm on these Dell Laptops. I always try to create as transparent hackintoshs as possible (as few hacks as possible, preferably an original install booted with a Chameleon or Boot 132 cd). This enables neat features like upgrading directly from the Apple Updater, and so on!

You need

• A laptop, preferably an Inspiron 6400
  
• A Macintosh, or Hackintosh, to perform the initial tasks
  
• A Snow Leopard or Snow Leopard Server installation DVD (buy one from Apple store)
  
• And if your equipment don't support several disks, an external chassis for your hard drive.
  
• This package with drivers and boot loaders

Well, yes and no. The GMA950 installer (enclosed in the package) ensures an artifact free environment. I always figured the TSCSync to be a bit buggy so it's excluded. The system boots to 32 bit unless you force it to boot to 64.

The guide you refer to is one of the worst to follow, the number of conditionals and unknowns are way to many. With this package (which i claim no credit for) your 6400-system is up and running within 20 minues. Take it or leave it, it's still here - working extremely well!

Anyone has any luck with the instruction above? I followed it step-by-step 3 or 4 times and still  no luck. It shows the apple logo and the spinning wheel, that's about it.

Dell Inspiron 6400 Firmwawre A09

INTeL Centrino DUO

T2050 @ 1.60ghz

2GB RAM

Have you disabled the Dual Core in bios?

Dont know, worth a try perhaps. This compile is originally made for Inspiron 6400 with Core(2)Duo processors and GMA950.

Otherwise I'd recommend these guides

Still no luck with my Dell Inspiron 6400. Just a gray spinning wheel with apple logo. I got it working great on my Sony Vaio cr490 but the "About this Mac" does not work. the screen fades for a few seconds and then it takes me back to the desktop.

Hi,
my 6400 now runs fine (10.6.1). Your GMA950 gave me the full resolution (1280x800) and your BMC400x did the net. Thanks alot.  

But i also needed the TSCSync because of the screen and the mouse pointer lagged and had artefacts. The sound was fine with VoodooHDA (after removing AppleHDA)

I got mine working: fantastic! Thanks for the files and the info! Only small problem... I can't get an upgrade to work. Not 10.6.1 or 10.6.2: screen goes black and does not come back! I'm restoring back to 10.6 now and expect that to work, but I'd like to upgrade eventually!

see the post #8 above with link. your black screen is likely due to gma950 sleep/wake problem on boot. If you do have gma950 follow the instructions and you should be able to upgrade to 10.6.2.

currenty installed win 7 ultimate. how can i dual boot with win 7 and osx
what's my first step to install osx. i already downloaded ipc osx86 10.5.6final iso and burned to dvd.
do i just need to boot from dvd drive and install everything just like i instaleed win7? thanks

My Dell 6400/1505 is working great! I have 10.6.2 and I"m very happy with it! Question: Apple informed me that there are updates available: Safari, and two others... is it safe to install them? What do I need to do after I do (if anything?)

those should be safe. It may ask you to reboot. it may not. I am updated to latest updates and have no problems.

Having a bit of troubles getting it working.

The install files (like GMA950) give me an error when trying to install: "Install Failed. The following install step failed: run preinstall script for gma950. contact the software manufacturer for assistance"

Anyone know why I'm getting this error on each install file?

I have a 6400 with an ATI x1400 card and a T2400 CPU - is there anyway to get OSX to work on this setup?
