CapAmerica
I ran the Software Update this afternoon after I found out there was a iPhoto and iTunes update and it shows a Security Update, Is it okay to install this or will it f*** up OSX?
domino
iPhoto and iTunes update works fine here. Might want to be careful with the third one, specially if you already have a working personal server with PHP enabled. A brief look through the package, I don't see files that breaks maxxuss' work. Just use caution and image the drive if you can.

jph2003
Do not install. This update will trash your system. I installed it just now and everything seemed to go fine. I rebooted and the machine is now stuck at the starting mac os screen where the blue bar usually flys across. It just sits there waiting for something. Help. Mr. Bond
Boot up in Single User mode, and try replacing the patched files with their pre-updated versions. If that fails, well....er, format and re-install.

Does anyone know if the this is also true for those of us with 10.4.3, who just updated iTunes? I'm guessing not, but now I'm a little scared to reboot. Maybe I'll just never reboot this machine again, ever.

CapAmerica
Thanks for testing it, I didn't want to take the chance since I did the switch and OSX is now my primarty OS. I have 10.4.5 running nicely. I think I'll just skip any Security Update for now untill someone creates a pack of updates pre-cracked..
jph2003
I wish I could figure out what broke it. I examined every file in the package and they all seemed safe. Nothing that jumped out at me and said hey I am a new kernel or anything. I didn't see any new Rosetta files. However, when I boot in verbose mode I hang right after the nic card is loaded. The exact line is com_apple_driver_RTL8139: Ethernet address xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx The xx represents my mac address.
A Nonny Moose
If you use the third party fixes (Paranoid Android or Safe Terminal) then you kinda sorta don't need it if you have the Haxintosh system. In any event, it's always a good bet to wait a couple of days before installing an update. There was once an iTunes update that wiped hard drives (GAH!!!). Of course, for native OS X systems (meaning true Mactel or PPC), always download and install security updates (again, after the wait). Personally, I used it on my Macs and had no problem (but they were PPC systems). I'm rambling now, so I'll shut up
MK500
I applied the patch and killed my system. Luckily I found a way to restore it to functionality without a re-install. If you just boot in single user mode, and follow Maxxuss directions again under "Instructions (Alternative: Updating directly in 10.4.4)", the system will work fine. This is nice because I have the new Safari and other enhancements that came with the patch.
xiberia
so we should follow Maxxuss instructions (putting the decrypted folder into top level etc), run the security update, reboot into single user mode, then put back the decrypted files and run the chowns etc? seems simple enough. I'll try it now
