OS X on the MSI Wind, Before it's Released

Numberzz

A hacker, and a member of our forums, has managed to get Mac OS X Leopard running on the MSI Wind. This is what jav had to say about getting it on his MSI Wind. It's translated from spanish.

Well, here it is. The new MSI Wind running Kalyway 10.5.2. I still have to make some adjustments, such as the resolution and the wireless card, but I couldn't stop myself from posting these images that I'm sure will get the interest from more than one person. Ethernet and Bluetooth work right out of the box, so I'm really expecting a lot from this small notebook.

All that and the MSI Wind isn't even going to be released until July 7th.

EDIT: It appears that the sound also works OTB. The resolution and wireless are the only things that we know of that don't work.

it works finally !!!

thanks but any wifi drivers ?

Not yet unfortunately.

I managed to make a perfectly working triple boot on the msi wind with :

Windows Xp Ultimate, MacOSX 10.5.4, Ubuntu Ultimate, and all is working

flawlessly.

Except for the Wireless card under Mac. The Linux distrib was adapted for

ubuntu ( you have to compile your drivers youself tho)

I guess (hope) that the drivers for Mac should be available for next week.

I'am trying to adapt and to work on a version for our Leo ;-)

Good week end to you @l

ok dudes ;)

btw, is it safe to install the 10.5 update ?

I forgot to mention that I used the iAktos version (I guess kalyway fans will booh me now :P

and I am just starting to update the DNS (and others) security patchs. I'll keep you update.

Concerning the update itself, I have read that new scripts allows to completely update for macsox original site & dvd's without any troubles. I'll come back with more of this later on since i've bookmark it but i don't really remeber on wich computer !

ok so i'm gonna wait a little before upgrading.

It seems that the boot time is pretty long on my akoya, for booting leopard 10.5.4, it's about 2 minutes, is there anything to speed it up ?

Did someone already try BIOS update 1.06? Could it cause trouble with OSX?

Upgraded to 1.06 last week, works fine with me, no significant improvement that i know of in OSX.

Hi Guys,

just got my wind few hours ago.

I tried the Suse Linux, not crazy about it...

So the BIOS is not updated nor the camera, so i think i'll have to install windows to update everything correctly then i'll OSx it.

Do you have another way to do that without windows?? Cuz it's a pain for me to install windows.

Cheers

Thanks Ulysse, do you know how long does it take to boot ?

thanks Ulysse, btw, how long does it take to boot leopard ?

Sure .. it took me 26 seconds from the boot sequence (the very beginning) to the full and active desktop. I will mention here that i have not yet upgraded my memory and therefore still playing with 1giga bytes only.

Cheers,

U.

"Welcome to my World ;-) "

So the BIOS is not updated nor the camera,

"Not quiet so ... think about upgrading the firmware to 1.06 first"

-> this solves many issues ... bluetooth ... webcam etc ...

so i think i'll have to install windows to update everything correctly then i'll OSx it.

"Sure, Windows are not compulsary"

-> I advise you to install OSX first, and then Ubuntu since GRUB is quiet powerfull to manage multiboot.

-> Please do bear in mind to configure your partitions prior you installation.

To @ll a very good day indeeed.

Thanks for the info,

I'm installing Windows to update the BIOS and the webcam, i'll stick to it for couple of days.

Then i'll add 1Gb and the dell card 1490. And after i'll OSX it.

(my connection is so slooooooow here that I have to wait few days in order to have the msiwindosx86.iso)

I have Leo4All 10.5.2 on a DVD already but I don't know if I want to have the same kind of issues I had installing it on my former box.

Plus the new iso will have 10.5.4 already so i won't bother doing a risky upgrade.

thanks for the info :D

HI everyone, I can't get to update the BIOS.

My wind is 105 and I have the 106 from MSI website, made a USB stick bootable, but the Bios.exe tells me that it can't read any valid BIOS or something weird like that.

Any hints?

Edit:

Nevermind it suddenly work.

Waiting for dell now

QUOTE(alucard_xs @ Aug 4 2008, 08:47 PM)

I don't know why it takes me more than 2 minutes to boot ... any ideas ?

So does mine, no idea why.

Especially since it can do it under half a minute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwgPtq2Nswc !

maybe it's a driver problem (Oups sorry I'm mean a Kext problem B) --> I installed the realtek R1000 when I installed MACOSx, but our LAN card are not realtek R1000 right ? Is there any kext/drivers for our LAN card (btw, what kind od card is it ?)

I exaggerated. It takes 42 seconds from the start of the grey apple until it disappears and another 5 seconds before the desktop comes up. Thus not under half a minute as in the Youtube movie, nor more than 2 minutes as the original poster.
