Greetings !

I have installed Leopard 4 all . on my 150 gb Sata drive.

The installler worked fine and disk utility saw my sata drive ok.

after installation all i get is waiting for root device error

This is really annoying because ive just brought a new mother board and processor because my last wouldnt even see the sata drive in installer/disk utility

so ive spend more money and still cant get into leopard.

But i know that leopard works with my machine because i have installed to a 20gb ide drive that i found in my loft, but thats too small and not enough gb !

can anyone please help me get my sata drive working. i can give any information required about my pc.

This is really urgent because im now left with out a pc. and am using my phone !

Hey so its become more urgent that i get this fixed . so ive added a reward to spark peoples intrest.

If you get my sata drive workings (running leopard) 10$ reward via paypal only (this is only 2 the one person tho!)

Now 20 Dollar Reward !

humm puzzler lolz

try playing around with the IDE settings (it would account for sata also) in ur bios menu of ur motherboard.

it would be easier for me to determine whaat you settings should be if u posted what ur bios menu has.

*edit* post you hardware specs. ill check it out

besides from ^^^^ you can just use the 20gb hdd as a temporary leopard and have your sata hdd in also as a storage device until you get leopard to work on it.

well ive messed around with bios alot. i have a phonix bios. and there isnt any sata options or many.

I cant use the sata as a storage i dont think.. i will give it a try tho. but im pretty sure it just isnt seen by leopard.

kinda strange that the disk utility on the installer disk see's it tho.

dont forget 10$ reward to whom getts it to work

yea you were right, not much u can play around with in ur bios. i just read ur manuel and doesnt seem like you can change much. just play around with all the ide and sata settings you have. try all the combonations lolz

*EDIT*!!!

reinstall leopard on ur sata hdd and make sure u checked APIC-Fix it might help and make sure you match ur hardware info with the 3rd party software that is availible in the installation thing.

dun install any Graphic Drivers though.

also make sure u have the AMD System Fix checked too

Yes you need to install a chipset driver or you will be stuck with waiting for root device unless you have an Jmicron controller. as that is the only thing that installs by default. From what I can tell it uses a SiS760 controller, so choose silicon image, but if that does not work try the Via one.

no luck guys. i still get waiting for root device. : \ i cant even use the sata as a storeage !

i tried skypers method and it doesnt seem to change anything for me.

any other ideas? theres still 10$ for whom fixes it !

thanks for the replys so far !

In windows:

Click start/control panel

open administrative tools

open computer management

In the left column of that window you will see at the top:

computer management (local)

Under that you will see a heading called System Tools

System tools should have a ( - ) in front of it so that you see all the sub-categories. If it has a (+) in front of it, click the + to expand the sub-categories. At the bottom you will see Device Manager.

Open device manager and in the right column the categories of devices will come up. Open the one you need and double click your device. In the window that pops up, click the details tab. You will see a line with a bunch of letters/numbers. It will look something like this:

PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5B62&SUBSYS_0F021002&REV_00\4&1603E009&0&0008

You need the VEN and DEV numbers so in this example, the id you need would be obtained by combining the VEN and DEV numbers and putting them in correct format like so 0x10025B62

your actual numbers will not match the ones in this example. This is just to show you how to get them. You can get them for any device on your machine this way. I hope I explained it clearly enough. It can be frustrating to look for things so I try to help where I can with my limited knowledge of this stuff.

Close.

You need the dev ID's for the drives in question from the "disk drives" and "dvd/CD-ROM drives" sections. NOT the controllers section. If you expand "disk drives" in same area, it will show all the HD's installed on your system. Same for "DVD/CD-ROM Drive" section. Those are the id numbers needed.

You could probably buy a better motherboard off ebay for the amount of the reward you plan on giving out. Or an IDE hard-drive.

Indeed, just go for an Gigabyte GA-P35-XYZ, you will have an OSX with only a few modified kext. Its really worth the money and you are really close to an mac :gun:

seems that your Hdd is emulating IDE drive instead of using native SATA.

Leopard like native SATA more in most case.

However, you said that you see SATA drive in Disk Utilities when installing. Means that the kexts is available in your install DVD. however, after installing there is another copy of kext to be copied to your destinate drive which is not equal to the one set in your DVD. So they see different things.

First thing first, try different DVD installation disk that proven to work with your chipset.

Second, try different BIOS version to see if ACHI option can be enabled.

Third, try with a USB hdd first and see what happen, that would allow you to use the system first, and you can add the correct kext later.
