I have a couple of sata AMD platform SB kext's that I can throw your way.

I will post them when I get home.

::EDIT:: Here is the kext pack for hopefully your SATA HDD and SCSI Controller.

SB600_SATA_ATA.zip

Close.

You need the dev ID's for the drives in question from the "disk drives" and "dvd/CD-ROM drives" sections. NOT the controllers section. If you expand "disk drives" in same area, it will show all the HD's installed on your system. Same for "DVD/CD-ROM Drive" section. Those are the id numbers needed.

well i think this is it.... did i get it correct this time?

You could probably buy a better motherboard off ebay for the amount of the reward you plan on giving out. Or an IDE hard-drive.

if you can find me a convinceing example i might buy it. but i wouldnt know exactly to look for.

i had the same problem. boot with the boot flags "-x -v platform=x86 cpu=1" it'll take some time(3-20 mins to load) but it'll work.

I have tryed these boot options and i still get the waiting for root device error. but thanks

seems that your Hdd is emulating IDE drive instead of using native SATA.

Leopard like native SATA more in most case.

However, you said that you see SATA drive in Disk Utilities when installing. Means that the kexts is available in your install DVD. however, after installing there is another copy of kext to be copied to your destinate drive which is not equal to the one set in your DVD. So they see different things.

First thing first, try different DVD installation disk that proven to work with your chipset.

Second, try different BIOS version to see if ACHI option can be enabled.

Third, try with a USB hdd first and see what happen, that would allow you to use the system first, and you can add the correct kext later.

I have tryed Kalyways and Zeph's neither boot. which is strange because leo4all installs perfect apart from sound to my 20gb ide.

What do you mean by a difrent bios version? upgrade my biois ?

i dont own a usb harddrive unfortunatly.

Thanks very muchly but a little bit of info on where to put them /how to use ?

i had success with leo4all with both patches, will boot to installer and see hard drives, just have to watch what options you select in customization! installer likes to crash for some reason if you select too many

Ive tryed practicaly every install option. with no luck on boot with out the error i have decribed here.

im sure im installing correct as it installs perfect to my Ide drive

when i installed i only installed the ati fix and sb chipset drivers, that was it, after it finished installing i could boot from the dvd, couldn't boot from the hard drive. i booted from the dvd, and then installed the efi_mbr bootloader from my kalyway 10.5.1 dvd, i was then able to boot directly from my hard drive!

i would try this as it sounds intresting. but i cant get kalways to boot with my board. so icannot install that extra.

thanks for the suggestion tho. all ideas are welcome :)

ditch kalyway, download leo4all, download both patches for the iso, burn dvd. install leo4all with ati fix and sb drivers only! reboot from dvd. eject dvd, insert kalyway dvd, open dvd, open installer, open packages and run efi_mbr bootloader, after it installs, eject dvd and reboot! see if that works for you

i meant that kalyways doesnt boot into the installer on my board. so i couldnt install the efi_mbr .

im currently am using leo4all tho. not sure if its with the latest patches actually

Edit. do you mean boot with the leo4all disk then swap it out for the kalyways with out rebooting. then open installer and install from the packages folder the efi bootloader. i may try this . thanks you !

kalyway doesn boot for me either, it's for an intel chipset but the bootloader can be used for both! boot into leopard with your leo4all dvd, after it boots, eject your leo4all dvd and insert kalyway dvd, open it and continue what i told you already in previous post! your not booting from the kalyway dvd, just using the bootloader from it! it will work!

Use the kext I gave you.

The answer to your question is to put IOATAFamily.kext in your /System/Library/Extensions folder.

You need to set permission's to root:wheel and 755. Delete your kextcache and mkext.

Try to do a kextload in terminal to make sure the kext load's successfully. Reboot and you should be able to boot off your hdd.

im having problems using mac drive to replace the kexts.

Replaceing doesnt work. so i delte the old kext and then add the new one and it still says the old one is there.

is there a way i can put the kext on disk and replace them at the boot screen.? can i also fix permissions at the boot screen?

The only suggestion I could think of is to add your device and vendor ID to the info.plist in appleVIAATA.kext. Assuming this hasn't been suggested previously. After all, you do have a VIA chipset.

Here is a guide you could try http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=47859

As a last resort: Have you tried just installing your OS to that 20Gb HDD, but storing all your files on this one from within OS X. Assuming that it shows up.

well i cant seem to do that. i got a bit confused.so at the moment im just using the 20 gb drive. from the cpuz thing i posted can any one tel me what kext i need to get my audio working ?well i cant seem to do that. i got a bit confused.so at the moment im just using the 20 gb drive. from the cpuz thing i posted can any one tel me what kext i need to get my audio working ?
