mtotho
I have succesfully installed Leopard on this laptop. Specs: Core Solo Centrino 1.63 ghz ATI x300 (1440x900) Intel 2200 b/g wireless 80gb hard drive. 1gb of ram The install went succesfuly (slowly, but surely). -I found followed a guide for getting qe/ci and resolution change on tiger for the x300.. gave it a try.. gave me resolution change but no qe/ci (i may have done it wrong, going to try again) -Wireless is working. -Sound works out of the box. -Hard drive speed is a bit slow, Not like the horrible .4mb/s some builds achieve, but i am running at like 20-30mb/s.. which i was wondering if anyone knew a fix for (fixed ichx kexts perhaps?) Does anyone else have this laptop, specifically the x300 version (i always get the crappy, unsupported radeon dells). If anyone does, please tell me any extra fixes you may have used, how stable it is, and anything else you think it would be good for me to know. Thankyou Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92674-dell-inspiron-9300/ Share on other sites
Alex7575
These laptops run on PATA drives, 20~30 mb/s doesn't sound slow to me at all. The only one I can think of is that iCal won't run unless you set it to open using Rosetta. Other than that, i haven't ran into any real issues, and the system seems pretty stable. I have a geforce 6800 go, so can't comment on your video card. I'll see if i can remember anything else, and keep you posted. inimicus
Yep, X300 ftl. I also was able to get resolution change.... 1920x1200. But no QE/CI. I'm using Callisto 003 with Koverg patch. How about you? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92674-dell-inspiron-9300/#findComment-661763 Share on other sites

Thankyou I had it running on my i9300 with the x300 but without CI/QE. I really couldn't put up with the artifacts in tiger either. I ordered an i1720 and put the 9300 on E-bay. It is a heck of an upgrade for the price difference. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/92674-dell-inspiron-9300/#findComment-661960 Share on other sites

How about you? yea, i use the callisto and koverg as well. Also tried reinstalling and messing around with some dev id's.. sitll no qe/ci. I know the later inspirons can have the video card upgraded. (Like i have an inspiron e1705 as well, ati x1400, darn, always get the dells with the crappy ati, and it can be upgraded to geforce). But can this one be upgraded? it may be worth it for me to get one that gets qe/ci, cause without that, leopard just is not worth it to me. Alex7575
I have taken mine apart a couple of times, and the video card comes "apart" from the main board, and also I've heard of people upgrading their 6800 go to 6800 go Ultra, my guess is that the video card IS indeed upgradeable. That was what I was planning to do but after looking into it more I realized I could get a referbished 1720 from Dell Outlet with Vista for about $200 more then I could get for the 9300 on E-bay. That is about the cheapest you can get a 6800 go for and then pray that it hasn't been overclocked. The 1720 runs circles around the 9300. It is a lot nicer laptop. totallybonkers
Hello, One thing I can't seem to get to work on my i9300 is a CPU temperature monitor. I've tried them all but can't seem to get one to read the sensor of my CPU. If you have any idea how to get a temperature monitoring program running on our i9300's I'd really like to hear it. Thanks, Daniel I have succesfully installed Leopard on this laptop.
