  1. Thank you, it worked great for me, I was stuck with Kalyway 10.5.1 and now I'm a bit more up to date thanks to your guide.

Error after language select on install!

LOL, posts like this one are what made me stop helping people on this forum. Do people think we are obligated to help them, and promptly? When I got started OSX was still on Tiger version and that was 10.4.8, and it wasn't until Leo that I got my computer running OSX. Sometimes people haven't encoutered the problem you have, so there aren't answers. Sometimes the question has been answered so many times, it's obvious you haven't even tried. Like this guy, he comes to this forum not to ask for help, but to demand it. Amazing...

    Kalyway 10.5.1 to 10.5.2

Chrys, I'm no expert, but try to search for something in the lines of reinstalling the EFI. That may help you with your problem.

    SATA TO IDE ADAPTER

Dakine, Does your system display the (IDE to SATA) drives as external drives (yellow drives)? Thank you Alex

    Dell Inspiron 9300

I have taken mine apart a couple of times, and the video card comes "apart" from the main board, and also I've heard of people upgrading their 6800 go to 6800 go Ultra, my guess is that the video card IS indeed upgradeable.

    Dell Inspiron 9300

These laptops run on PATA drives, 20~30 mb/s doesn't sound slow to me at all. The only one I can think of is that iCal won't run unless you set it to open using Rosetta. Other than that, i haven't ran into any real issues, and the system seems pretty stable. I have a geforce 6800 go, so can't comment on your video card. I'll see if i can remember anything else, and keep you posted.

How do I edit kext files?

Right click on the kext file, and select Display Contents (kext files are not files, but directories), there you most likely going to edit the Info.plist file, which is nothing but an xml file. Just follow the instructions for your video card (which I'm assuming you found a topic in the forum)
  9. Justyntime, Are you using a 90W power supply? If not, that's your problem, took me quite a while to figure that one out... Alex
  10. In case anyone's wondering, Kalyway's 10.5.2 update (TPB) worked for me. I don't know if it works keeping the kexts, as I did a clean install and then updated to 10.5.2 right after...
  11. Worked: Dell Inspiron 9300 Unzipped and ran pkg file and rebooted twice, and "took" update on the second reboot (as expected). Getting tired of thanking Kalyway THANKS KALYWAY!

How do you use the driver with a .so extension in OSX?
  14. I just got my computer setup for the first time, so I'm just a newbie as all you, errr.... newbies... When installing for the first time, keep these in mind: -CPU -Intel or AMD -SSE2 or SSE3 I can't talk about AMD's as I never did an AMD installation, but on Intel machines if you have a SSE2 CPU, DO NOT INSTALL ANY VANILLA KERNELS OR FIXES (VANILLA IS SSE3 ONLY) -Drivers - DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL ANY DRIVERS ON YOUR FIRST INSTALL, try getting your machine to boot, then worry about getting periferals to work. -EFI - Only select the EFI (MBR or GUID) that matches your partition type (MBR or GUID). As I mentioned earlier I'm a newbie too, if something up there is wrong, I apologize in advance.
  15. To all Mac users (new and old), A little about me, My first experience with a Mac came many years ago in the form of an Apple II, which cost my parents a cool couple of grand (I was living in Brazil back then, so we had to pay the 100% premium). The Apple II ended up becoming the most expensive video game I've ever had. With no floppy drive and let alone a hard drive, I used to buy this magazines with source code for some simple games, and a programmer was born. I'd spend hours pecking at the keyboard (no typing skillz yet) writing the code, all to play a game. I had the Apple II for about a couple of months before my parents decided I didn't need a $2,000 video game... I remember my father's words: "You keep wasting your time on these computers, you won't get anywhere, you need to study and pursue a decent career as a doctor or a lawyer" ... MUHAHAHAHAHA!!! The joke was on him as I became a software engineer, making a pretty decent living. Well, not as decent as a lawyer's or a doctor's, but I'm doing alright... Anyway, sorry I have a tendency to go on tangents... After my Apple II, a few years later I built my first of oh so many PCs, I think I had MS DOS 5 or 6 on it, maybe some version of Windows (earlier versions were nothing but shells for DOS), from there I basically kept up to date with Microsoft, and went on to become a .Net developer. Needless to say, I am very comfortable with Windows, and I think it's great and has come a long way from the 95, 98, 2000 versions. It's pretty nice to have almost all technologies geared towards an OS you are familiar with. I always disregarded OSX as an option, mainly because it was just too expensive to buy a Mac to try the OS. 2007 comes and goes, my Dell 9300 has been giving me a lot of headaches (and heartaches) to install, but then 2008 came and I decided to buy an extra hardrive and try an installation on my D620... It worked! Got it installed and pretty much 90% running (sans Lan, sleep, dual core, etc...). After a couple of hours fiddling with the OS, I became very familiar with Leopard, as if I've been using it for months, Finder is wonderful to use, Expose wowed me in its simplicity, and on, and on... Being a hard core MS user, it's somewhat hard to digress and have to agree that Leopard, heck, I'll say it... OSX is better than Windows, I'm in love with the OS and if I could put it in on word: Elegant. Thank you, Alex, Windows Programmer OSX Convert (Machead in training) [Edit] I forgot to thank everyone in the community, and a special thanks to all developers, mods, my mom and my dad. Extra special thanks to MS for making the switch easier, by releasing Vista...

    Kalway and IBM Thinkpad T42

Yes, at least most, i think they have to be either Intel or Universal, so as long as it's not PPC you should be ok (I don't even think they make ppc macs anymore)

Kalyway Install problem on a dell

For the sigmatel, do a search for 9300, that laptop has the same card i believe, there's a sigmatel9200.kext or something like that. As for the cpus=1, so a search for com.apple.Boot.plist and a post with instructions on how to do it, should come back...

I don't think ethernet will work, you have a 10/100/1000 card right?

No prob, don't be discouraged, read a lot of posts, it took me a while to get it right too, and decided to completely switch to leopard after I got it installed.

That's what I'm not sure about, if the disk utility will allow you just to change the name, if it does, it should be enough. the blinking cursor error seems to be pretty common.

    Yes, no spaces.

Try w/o the space, I think you may be able to use the dvd's disk utility to do that, not sure tho.
