I would say the fact leopard can be installed on a PC has converted me to mac. It gave me a chance to 'test drive' if you like the operating system before investing in an iMac. I think its gotta be doing apple a favor in the long run, this added to the fact that Windows Vista is :P must be giving them a welcomed boost in sales.

I need a laptop and I'm really interested in buying a macbook pro, the only issue I have is if you take a Sony Vaio AR51 SU for example, not only is it lower priced by a considerable amount, but it has more features such as a blueray writer drive and a larger hard disk. I can justify the price of an iMac as it is an all in one sleek design, has all the features I would need in a PC - no other PC out there comes close to comparing to it as far as design goes. Can anyone justify the high price of the laptop range?

Does the Vaio have an LED backlight? Or use Penryn? I'm not trying to sound like a smartass I'm really asking if it does. If it doesn't then there you go, plus the multi-touch trackpad if your a photographer.

Does the sony have a backlit keyboard? Didn't think about my MBP having one until after I got it and actually started using it. Now I don't think I'd get a laptop without one. The battery life looks like it isn't as great as the MBP either. The comment on the site said about 1 hour 35 minutes. The batter meter in Leopard shows me 3 hours 51 mins with 87% charge. I'm playing music and messing around in excel/word, so I'd say that's pretty good. I'm sure the new Penryn ones are even better. Having a seamless OSX experience is nice too.

I currently have a Dell XPS M1530 but I agree with everyone here. If you want OS X, get a Macbook Pro because running hacked drivers, dealing with kernel panics, worrying about software updates is just not worth it. Yes you are spending a LOT more (unjustifiable amount in my case) but your computer will have a higher resale value so if you really want you can sell it for a higher price 3 or 4 years down the road.

I dunno, I'd get the MBP if you want a Mac... lot of hassle with a Hackintosh. Much better experience just having a Mac. Sure you spend more and don't get the Blu-Ray right now... but rumor is another update is coming in June... so save up and hold off maybe? But if you want a Mac and you're about to buy a new comp, get a real Mac. Osx86 is not like just installing Linux, there are issues...
