I'm also no expert ... but mine runs at 63°C on the hottest core while under 90% of load ... rendering HD in FCP i.e.. Average temp ist 42°C average.

I use the boxed cooler by intel.

Seems pretty normal.

If you like take a look at these pages:

last one is about the box coolers. I think we both use this one

If you plan to OC your CPU make sure you have the following:

1) a Hardware Monitor that shows the CPU's temperature.

2) some sort of CPU intense testing software. I suggest Prime 95 which will be able to push all four cores to their limit. You can download it HERE. Leave it running for about an hour and check on the temps.

3) Decent CPU cooler and airflow in your system.

With all that go ahead in your BIOS and start upping the fsb. don't make huge leaps at the beginning take it slowly and alsways test stability with Prime95. If it shows errors it means you CPU clock is set too high. Also at the beginning don't bother about vcore and other stuff. see how far you can push it with stock voltage.

You will find much more detailed infos and opinions on overclocking in this forum.

Greetings

Great overclocking guide for the Bad Axe 2 here:

D975XBX2 Overclocking

I'm loving my recently installed Skythe Andy Samurai cooler - temps in the low thirties, maxing out around 50 degrees C if I do anything intensive like Handbrake video transcoding. Haven't pushed the Q6600 too far - just 3.0GHz without any voltage increase.

Settings used:

FSB: 334

Mem Ref: 266

Mem Freq: 667

The OCZ DDR2 I'm using is set to 4-4-4-15 with voltage of 2.12
