I just installed 10.5.1 Kalyway vanilla kernel on my Acer Aspire. It has an Intel GMA 950, so I know that I'm not supposed to use FCP (or Motion for that matter) but many people have gotten it to work just fine. Regardless, iMovie shouldn't have any problems regardless of my graphics card.

Whenever I run either FCP or iMovie, the program unexpectedly quits before it even loads. Motion will actually load, but the quits a few seconds afterward.

Does anybody know if this is a problem because I'm running these apps on a Hackintosh, or that there is simply a problem with running them on Leopard? I have seen many posts on Apple's forums about problems, but I just want to know if anyone has encountered this on a Hackintosh and how it has been fixed.

1. Are they the iLife '08 variants?

2. Open them with terminal(Right click .app -> Show Pkg contents -> Contents folder -> MacOS Folder -> Open terminal window -> Drag and drop the binary from MacOS folder into terminal) and see what they spit out when they crash.

iv heard of the problem on real mac machines aswell just not as bad.

on my hackintosh iv attempted like yourself to run fcp6 and logic pro 8 all quit unexpectadly.

someone said it was bc of garageband so i got rid of that and the problem is still there.

I can run apeture 2, all the ilife suite (i think i can run imovie - cant remember 100% tho), shake, motion etc.

also fcp 4 (think its 4) actually works fine just not the latest release.

possible kernel issues maybe??? im on 10.5.2 but havent updated the kernel as of yet, and i have the graphics update and the pro studio update (or whatever its called)

its annoying beyond the extreme becuase i really need to get into logic pro.

To answer your first question, iMovie is from iLife '08, while FCP and Motion are from Final Cut Studio 2.

I ran all three in terminal as suggested. FCP and Motion (and Qmaster for that matter) produced this:

terminate after throwing an instance of 'aecore::CException'

Abort trap

iMovie produced a bunch of stuff, but the important part was this:

iMovie

I've just been reading that one of the potential solutions is to make sure en0 exists. I am going to try this, however, I had to change en0 to en1 in an attempt to make my ethernet work. Actually that didn't help fix my connection, and I have a thread in the Hardware Forum that hasn't been replied to so if anyone know how to fix the Broadcom 440x, please post in there. Anyway, that doesn't seem to apply to the iMovie problem.

UPDATE:

I found another thread on this forum that recommended removing the QMaster framework. This has fixed FCP and Motion, obviously at the cost of QMaster, which I wasn't planning to use anyway. It seems to be having a problem because I currently have no valid ethernet device (once again, help with that would be appreciated), but I'll be fine for now.

This has not, however, helped iMovie. There is another post on Apple's discussion boards about this, people with real Macs are getting the exact same error as I am. It was mentioned on there that Perian and DivX plugins can cause the crash. There is a Perian preferance pane pre-installed in my system preferences, however it indicates that Perian isn't installed, so I doubt that is the source of the problem. All of my other iLife applications have been working flawlessly, so I don't think there was a bad install. Any ideas why iMovie still won't work?

I'm assuming that you did all the ilife updates from software update. My initial install of ilife produced the same errors until I installed all the patches. I upgraded my system from a previous build that also had Divx installed; so I updated to the latest version. I've seen this also on regular imacs at Compusa (before they closed) that would abort for no reason.

I would check the application support directories and maybe move any files out of the Perian directory to another place; reboot and see if that helps.

Also it helps to put your hardware configuration in your signature so people have a better understanding of what you have. It's been mentioned several times in the forum, but I see some people still haven't done it. ;) Sometimes if you're running a regular pentium instead of a core 2 duo or a video card that Apple doesn't currently use on their machines can make all the difference.

Okay, so it appears that in attempting to fix FCP/Motion/Qmaster, I inadvertently fixed my Ethernet. Because of this I was able to download the iMovie and Pro Applications Updates. These fixed all of my problems, and that's what I'd recommend if anybody else is having problems. I guess this was worth it because if it I hadn't run FCP in terminal to find the error, I would have never fixed my Ethernet and consequently everything else. Thanks for everyone's help!

it also happen with mine, iMovie unexpectedly quit with error: ignore, cancel, relaunch.

Using apple software update, I updated ONLY iMovie and it working normal right now.

Hope it help.

My system is:

Asus P5KR / Intel Q6600 / 4GB DDR2 800MHz / 2x160GB SATA (1 for Vista) / 320GB SATA for data / DVD-RW SATA / XFX 7900GS 256MB

ok still having issues with this,

i deleted qmaster (moved to bin - is that correct??) and installed 10.5.2 and the kernel. still no change.

i swear i have also installed the pro app update and it still doesnt work.

what updates have people put on (links would be cool) and are you doing it direct throught the update system or apples website??

[EDIT] i was able to get iLife working with updates i found from apple. I cannot find where to get the final cut updates from though. I was able to get the updates but it still doesn't work. While playing around I found that Qmaster also does this.

I solved the problem, FCS2 must look for en0 which i did not have. I installed parallels to get the virtual network driver and it worked.
