As per Apple's usual Tuesday update tradition, the Apple store is currently down for updates.

Earlier today the Apple store was down for updates:

After re-opening the new MBPs were released, they sport the following features:

- Incorporation of Penryn processors - 3MB/6MB L2 Cache depending on the model

- An LED screen for the 17" model

- The new-and-improved multi-touch trackpad found in the MacBook Air

- Better HDD options

- Increased Graphics Card RAM.

See the Apple Specs here.

Now I just need to get one... MBP 2.6Ghz, 2GB RAM, 200GB 7200 RPM HDD, and MacBook Pro 17-inch Hi-Resolution Glossy Widescreen Display /w 512MB Gfx. sounds good to me... *emails person buying it for him*

Note: Some stores still provide incorrect Graphics Card details and don't mention the LED screen, I have confirmed with an Apple rep these are just typographical errors however.

Enjoy,

And it's there (the updated MBP)! faster procs, multi-touch, bigger harddrives, same design/keyboard though?

Seems they didn't update the resolution on the displays. I'm not sure, but I also think the upgrade prices are a little lower than they were before....

Anyway, looks good :-), but still, a base price of $1999 is quite high for me....

Apple today introduced new models of the MacBook and MacBook Pro. MacBook Pro models feature the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors (running at up to 2.6GHz with 6MB of shared L2 cache), larger hard drives (up to 300GB), and 2GB of memory standard in most models. They also include the latest NVIDIA graphics processors — with up to 512MB of video memory — and an innovative Multi-Touch trackpad, first introduced in MacBook Air.

The three new models of the MacBook feature faster processors and hard drives: sleek white 2.1 GHz and 2.4 GHz models with 120GB or 160GB 5400 rpm hard drives and a stunning black 2.4 GHz model with a massive 250GB 5400 rpm hard drive. The 2.4 GHz MacBook ships with 2GB of memory standard, expandable up to 4GB across the line.

Available immediately, the new MacBook and MacBook Pro models start at just $1,099 and $1,999, respectively. [Feb 26, 2008]

According to the Apple website, the L2 cache is 3MB, whereas the Late 2007 models have 4MB.

Why's that?

Are you sure? I thought the "low spec" MBP 15" used to have a 2MB L2 Cache, and the higher spec models had the 4MB Cache, I may be wrong though.

I was talking about the MacBook ;)

And the MBP base models (2.2ghz/T7500) came with 4MB of L2 cache...

Maybe Apple is looking to cut corners here and there?

Ahh, Ok.

And maybe the new lower spec CPUs just have less L2 Cache than their predecessors? :)

Just because they have less cache dont make them slower, the new architecture makes up for that, thats why sometimes the Ghz are lower to.
