badeavasile
It's a pity how comes to get stuck in the room with a functional tool, like this flatbed scanner (quite an old model) without using it. Pearhaps Hewlett-Packard thinks that all the people on the bloody planet must act like avarege idiot consumer, throwing away in the trash obsolete but still working products... HP doesn't seem to offer universal versions of their drivers. This is all they can do for all those who bought this scanner several years ago for aprox.300$ and want to use it on OSX: https://warp2.external.hp.com/Driver/dr_cou...ng=en&cc=us or http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/leaving...p;product=61930 Trying to follow the links for OSX version got me only to a CD-ROM order form expecting few bucks to mail a disc. All the way from the United States, UK, etc! The blackmail: either you buy the CD (not the software license), or you take your scanner to the recyle bin! I'm not that kind of guy, so I raise the challange for anyone interested in this matter... to solve once and for all this... OSX software/driver problem... One thing is crystal-clear My next flatbed scanner won't be HP !!!

CraigS
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I too have a HP Scanjet 5470c which is currently sitting unused under the desk because I can't find a driver for either Mac OSX 10.5 or Vista (that my wife uses)? The scanner is fine and I am not willing to pay £10 toa third party supplier for a CD, with no guarantee that it will work when and if it turns up! May have to take it to the tip if I can't find an answer to this soon!

badeavasile
Driver suitable for Leo? Does anyone try it yet? This is the question!
funyfarm
I am just as p.o.ed about this as you. I also have the hp5470c. Epson still supports their older products (they still have drivers for their 1270 printer for goodness sake). My 5470c scanner will be on eBay tomorrow (if not later tonight). That does it for me and HP computer products. I use Epson printers so now, and I will add an Epson scanner to the list. At least I know it will be supported down the road. It's a pity how comes to get stuck in the room with a functional tool, like this flatbed scanner (quite an old model) without using it. badeavasile
i am, my name is robert Onderweegs , Netherlands, thanks Robert With all the respect... mister... I also own the original os-x driver (bundle CD). It is NOT suitable for Leopard! I'm not a geek, I'm a designer. Otherwise, problem would be solved by now... Nevertheless, anyone can use it on Windows (all versions, including Vista and Win7) Cheers

Juan Brujo
Hello Driver for HP Scanjet 5400c series works with 10.6.3 is not from HP iS FREE AND works with the HP5400c series and many other models and brands. Here is a list of the supported devices USB AND SCSI: SANE SUPPORTED DEVICES STATUS And here are the packages that are needed: http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/ Get the BINARY packages for your MAC OS X version and if you are a developer the SDK's. Install them in the following order 1.gettext 2.libusb 3.SANE backends (all the drivers are installed) 4.SANE Preference Pane 5.TWAIN SANE Interface After installing AND WITH YOUR DEVICE CONNECTED go to System Preferences and open the SANE CONTROL PANEL, and disable all the drivers you do not need, find the one you need and select configure, close, save, and the communication path to your device is set. Open Image Capture and the device has to be there like SANE USB. IF Image Capture does not sees your device RESTART and the device is ready. My 2 cents.

I've just joined the forum to say a BIG THANK YOU. Best regards, Ian

snadowitz
Hi - I know this topic is a little stale BUT I just brished the dust off my HP5470c precision scanner because it has an attachement that allows the scanning of negatives. I followed the instructions and installed all th Twane Sane packages but the scanner still does not show up in the print and scan prefs pane. What am I doing wrong? I am using a Macbook Air mid-2011 model with OSx Lion 10.7 I would really like to get the scanner working because it is a corker!!!
