I'm not that much of a newb, I made sure of that already. I actually used the one time boot menu. But it will have the same effect if I use the priority lists which i'd rather not change atm.

you are trying to get osx run properly at the moment, if you can run osx on one hdd only config, it will most definetely run on multiple hdd config as well, since durro and you are not that newbie at all already, and have too much knowledge to show why do you come and bother to ask in the first place? why am I bothering myself to write you an answer? you guys are talking a lot but not making it work right, I am telling you to show you the right way to make sure everything will work at the end, you guys want straight answers as you know everything and will make everything work at once?

It is very annoying to come and say I know everything this and that just tell me what I want... will not get you anywhere, bcoz you and durro lacking a lot of experience, and refusing to do what I ask you to do... and answer in the opposite way... I am not trying to show off to you guys, and have no need at all, instead wasting my time to help you guys... but every now and then some clever guy is coming, and saying he is doing everything perfect but it doesnt work, actually not doing half the things right and waste my time, and at the end you guys are doing what i ask but after all the pain, it gets my nerves, bcoz you are just arguing with me, instead of doing what i say...

you can just ask questions like,

ok I will take all the hdds out, what will this help me? = then i can tell you the reason

ok how can i check if the sound card is working or not? = then i can tell you how to

ok how do i know my gfx card working fully? = then i can tell you how

but you guys are keep doing things the hard way, and asking oh i dont wanna do this, i dont prefer this, oh it is hard, oh it is not working...

than problem goes on and on... and at the end i make nasty answers to you guys bcoz of patience running out, and it doesnt benefit anyone at all...

I m tired of arguin for arrogance... just do what you are told, and if it doesnt feel ok, ask the reason, instead I dont wanna do this or that...

if you rather want to do things your own way? the guide is on the first page on post#2!

if you ask help listen and do things the way you are told, and ask the part you want information for the reason...

if you ask help but do things your own way, no easy solution to that, bcoz you will do your own mix of set up, and confuse me with your information and at the end you will say i did everything and didnt work... no other comment...

I came here to fix a specific problem. I realise that you know much more than I do, but I know that booting from the boot menu will give the same end result as altering the boot priority for that device group.

I asked you because I need help with a 680 chipset and I haven't found a solution anywhere else. My setup is that I have installed iatkos on a pata drive all the sata stuff is windows and data storage.

I'm trying to help you to help me by telling you things that I know and things that have happened. I'm not trying to rise to any challenge, I'm asking you for advice, I don't think you're showing off, I'm trying to benefit from you're expertise. I've read the guide 3 times. What I said was that booting from the one time menu will have exactly the same effect because it then resorts to the next drive in the priority list to boot from. I chose my iatkos drive and it booted to windows because it couldn't boot of the pata disk. I know the reason. I just need a solution. I can appreciate that you get tired and fed up of telling people why and what to do, I get it, but I'm trying to speed the process up so you can move to trying the next solution or theory that you might have to help me. I'm trying to help you solve my problem.

Ok all that aside, what do I need to do now, apart from trying the boot priority list?

what you need to do right now is:

+ You need to make sure you will have a working os x on one hdd only PC (you will take all hdd aside-- bcoz I want you to make sure it will work with one hdd, if it does, multiple hdd is no problem!!! but if you have multiple hdd, I cannot make sure you are doing boot settings correctly!)

+ One hdd in the PC and no other hdd...? continue

+ boot from R3 dvd for installation

+ go to utilities/hdd utility before going into installation

+ make new hdd partition scheme with 2 partitions (you have 60 gb for osx i think?)

+ name your partitions as you like but i suggest osx1 and osx2

+ options mbr partition scheme

+ click on partitions and let it finish

+ once finished, close the hdd utility

+ continue to install window, choose osx1 and go to customize window and follow the guide suggestions for what to choose... make sure you do not assumptions of your own like stock kernel acpi or anytg (except drivers for sound network or video, but i dont suggest it now, until 10.5.2 update, you will have more choices over there), just choose the things that are said! skip dvd verify, and make sure you move the mouse every 3-4 mins until install finishes...

+ finished? restart

+ take dvd out, and go to bios to check boot order as cd - hdd - others...

+ since you will have one hdd, it should not look for another hdd...

make sure press f8 when it asks for it and type -v and boot to see if there is any major error or panic message

+ then report back

good luck...

Hi, thanks for your help. I've followed your instructions to the letter. Successful install, but it won't boot. It can't boot from dvd drive (removed dvd) and it can't boot from mac os hd so it tries network and says system boot fail etc.

Any ideas?

when you made the install. did you removed all other hdds? and than install it when there is only one hdd on the system? bcoz i see raid setup on your system as well...

if you removed all the hdds, it should not skip hdd!, at worst should give you blinking cursor...

osx on pata hdd? did you check if it is set as "master" by its jumper(s)

did you check your bios? for boot order? cd-hdd-other (anything other than on board lan pls-disable on board lan)...

did you make new hdd partition scheme? (totally new, and partitioned?)

did you choose the exact same settings from the guide options? (esp efi bootloader)

and disable the on board lan pls, it messes up osx as well...

bcoz it doesnt make sense, it should not skip hdd if it is in right order, skipping means it doesnt find anything on the hdd...

All my sata disks are unplugged. The mac os disk (pata) is on slave or cable select with the dvd on master. Completely erased disk with new partition map. Boot order is cd, then hd then nothing and boot other device is set to enabled. The guide was my bible .I will disable the lan if you wish.

set the hdd as "master" this is a must... and disable the on board lan! and see master setting will help? or not... and set the dvd to slave instead of cable select, bcoz I know on some mobos it causes trouble! and it messes up the boot...

ok
I've just tried that and no luck i'm afraid. Hdd was set to master, dvd to slave and cross checked with BIOS. Sata chip was disabled as were both onboard lans. Boot priority was correct.

Message received: Remove media and press any key to restart

when I pressed a key it said missing operating system

can u go to bios see if your hdd is shown/recognized by mobi? Right now ? Bcos same thing happened to someone I helped b4. It is the chipset that finds the hdd at one boot and not in the other. It a chipset problem! On pata part only...check it and let me know if your bios recognizes your hdd and dvdrom

ok wait for tomorrow... Then... Sorry kinda late here...

You are probably right. Afterall u are a bit pro at this, i didn't mean to upset you and i can imagin that you patience was running dry after a few hours of my idiotcy.

Sorry :P

check my guide on post#2 for copying partition to another hdd partition... check 10-16 of that partdurro mate, if you think I m wrong with what i say, why you were able to install osx right now, when you were saying bios is set correctly, it wasnt and I can guarantee you you didnt set it correctly to right hdd...for the sound if you see the volume control that means it is working... you just need to know the jack that outputs stereo on the back of the computer, not the front panel... it is usually green color jack on the back... but right now, it most likely will no work bcoz of conflict... I say you are giving me misleading information, wrong information and i mean it, you are not correct! bcoz u kept saying your sound is not working (it was most likely working!!!!) I asked you to install hd stereo, and u did, which means you have two drivers trying to do the same job, which causes conflict... if you cant hear sound through green jack on the back of pc, bcoz your misleading information, you made me give you wrong direction...i m trying to help you but you are giving me lots of wrong information..

I am trying to reinstall after something went haywire. I get to the installer but the drive falls asleep at exactly the same moment. It seems to fall asleep when the installer log gets to "extracting". I have the installer log window open so I can see what is going on.

I have not been able to keep the IDE DVD from sleeping no matter what I do. I even tried continuously moving the mouse while installing. I still does it at exactly the same time. The progress bar starts to move rapidly and then it freezes as the drive goes into sleep mode at exactly the same time, every time.

I got a successful install with this same DVD but then for some reason could not boot from either partition so I tried a reinstall.

Should I try burning the DVD again? Did I just get lucky with this DVD the first time?

Has a fix for the "sleeping" network adapters been found? I have tried four different RT8139 cards and every one will just die out and I have to reboot. I have tried the MTU, full duplex fix but that didn't help.

It seems that the search feature is still dead on this site, so I'm very sorry if I'm asking the same question over again.

I was just wondering, is it possible to update a iATKOS v1.0i R3 using Apple's offical updates? I'm going to assume no, but I'm just asking because a friend who has a Mac told me that they have security updates every month or so which I would prefer not to miss. Thus, if it is not possible to use Apple's official updates, what are my other alternatives? Thank you so much and I'm sorry if this is a repost.

To mysticus:

I've managed to get it working! The only problem is that it needs to boot off the dvd, which then points it in the right direction of the hard disk. I've turned sata back on as well. All seems to be working. I just need to download the 10.5.2 updates but my internet connection is being throttled atm.

@Easykay: I told you about the unique problem, I had come across same problem with only three people, and problem is HD specific most likely, but little chance chipset/bios problem... my guess is HD specific, bcoz when I ask these people to use another hdd, it worked fine.

it happens on pata side for some people (but i may be wrong it may just be the hdd), and seen on high speed hdds (10k rpm) on sata as well mostly! and on nforce I guess... I have heard from two people about hdd problem on some intel chipsets as well... but cant confirm too much info...

so what you can do is if you have extra sata hdd or pata (different model) try osx on this new extra hdd, it may most likely help...

this is a rare problem but with certain hdds it happens...

@codemonkey: security updates usually works fine, but time to time, there can be trouble ones like time machine fix recently which involved new kernel... and major updates like 10.5.1, 10.5.2, 10.5.3 will be not possible straigh away... you need patches... you can do security updates, but first watch the first page of the forum first, so you can see if there are any concerns regarding them ok?

@zonker: I dont know what you did zonker, it worked on your system once, which means, you must have changed something, or dvd is cheap quality and damaged, for mouse move, do you click on blank areas as well? try that as well... sleep happens on certain nforce chipsets incl mine, if i dont move the mouse...

@durro: if you can just give me correct questions like how this works, without saying it doesnt work, i would direct you correctly, but you say, things are not working, when they are actually working, and for bios order, since it works on your system as one hdd, like i said, you are doing bios order for boot is wrong on your mobo, and you keep saying it is correct when it is not actually... it looked like easkay had same problem to me, but found that it is a unique one that happens with some HDDs... so your problem was bios order and I m most definetely sure about it, bcoz you can boot from hdd without dvd, where as easkay cannot, which indicates different problem... so first check your boot order preferences and fix it first... than you can use all your other hdds, and make sure you use the correct hdd in the boot order, and make a fresh partitioning and install, and at first boot check volume icon if it exist or not, bcoz if it doesnt exist it means sound is not recognized, then you can use stereo driver on my update installer, but if sound works out of the box, do not install any sound driver as it will cause conflict! which you made me do it to your system... and it is the green jack on the back of the pc which should work for speakers or headphones... do not hope to expect inputs like mic or line in with on board...

good luck....

Thanks for all your help I'll certainly try with another hard disk. I need to update to 10.5.2 and the graphics, when I can download it. I'm only on 10.5.1 atm. I'm not too fussed about getting sound or lan to work. I've got my wifi card working so I'm happy.

@ Mysticus

I only want to tell you that everything runs (in the moment) pretty fine. I don´t know why, but i´ve installed the ati-driver again and again ... and one time the system runs only with graphic errors - so i´ve rebooted with iatkos dvd and installed the normal ati 1950 driver on the cd. After rebooting the system runs perfectly with QI, Rotation and QE ... Thank you for all your helping hands ... Great work - great guy ... :)

For all Users with the booting only with DVD problem - i can help you.

Look here and run the script (only the EFI and acitvation) ...

and after that, you can boot without DVD ...

Here we go !!!

thanx for the info waldfee; but our R3 dvd has no problem installing and activating the partition where osx installed, on certain HDDs this problem exists! I can confirm the bootloader script on our efi selection in R3 DVD works great... the problem which needs only dvd boot happens under some situations:

+ on certain hdds bootloader can not load (blinking cursor) no matter what you do, this can not be fixed and I dont know why, on the same system same ata (pata or sata) port, if you use different brand hdds it works when you make another installation systeam boots fine.... this problem is seen mostly on some certain nforce 680i chipsets' pata ports and/or on high speed sata hdds (10k rpm) as well... and it is a unique problem...

+ on wrong version of iatkos dvds (people think that all iatkos dvds are same... iatkos r3 is the latest and fixed all previous bootloader errors... but iatkos v1.0i and iatkos r2 doesnt work with nforce well, and they have trouble with bootloader)

+ on restored partitions... when you restore (copy) your working osx partition to another hdd, it doesnt copy the bootloader... so you need to run the dvd and choose only efi bootloader option (nothing else should be choosed to fix bootloader) from the dvd and install... efi bootloader option is similar scrip that you pointed out, so you do not really need to download anytg else, but the link you sent maybe more advanced script, which i cannot tell right now...

@easkay: if you can try on another hdd, make sure it is different brand/model... if possible try a friend's hdd so you can first check it before going to buy one... so you dont waste money...

I'm slightly confused with all the redirected links. I clicked here we go and then downloaded the file off rapidshare. which is the right set if instructions?
