SniperKil
my specs are: DFI Lanparty UT NF3 250Gb mobo Athlon 64 3000 + @ 2.35ghz S754 (sse2 only) 1GB Corsair PC3200 ATi X800Pro unlocked to X800XT @ X850XTPE clock speeds 80GB 7200RPM HDD for OSX back when i tried 10.4.1 when it first came out... i was getting XBench scores of a.. whopping 9!.. figured something with the primitive sse3 patches or something... so tonight i tried 10.4.3 with JaS 4.2b patch... it is still INCREDIBLY slow.. like it would score a 9 or lower again on xbench if i tried it.. i dident yet.. but still.. i installed the SSE2 ATi drivers, dident help at all.. tho now it says my card suppourts QE..... osx should be flying.. instead it crawls worse then an old man with no legs... anyone ever seen this? i want this to work bad Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/8772-why-is-osx-so-incredibly-slow-on-my-system/ Share on other sites

39thRonin
Well, there look to be three areas of concern: 1) SSE2 vs SSE3 - This can have a fairly big impact on graphic performance in and of itself. The JaS install you are using should be you best bet. There is a utility or test you can run - it's in the readme files on the DVD - something like maxxuss_sse -i that will tell you exactly what kernel and patched you have loaded. The output from that would help 2) You disks look slow as well. Most scores I've seen from "fast" systems have block transfers in the 80's and 90s - not .5s 3) I was using an ATI x800 Pro as well (never got QE or CI to work). jbjonas
Yes, the JaS patch loads all the drivers by default. See: http://win2osx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2351 besides, if your ATA drivers were not loaded, how could your system even see the hard drive, much less install to it in the first place! SniperKil
well then the harddrive benchmark scores are nuts.. i have no idea why they would be that low Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/8772-why-is-osx-so-incredibly-slow-on-my-system/#findComment-55021 Share on other sites
jbjonas
I had that problem with the first *old* PATA drive I used, but it was 5400rpm. With the *newer old* PATA 7200 drive I'm using now, its much better. But it lookes like your 80GB drive is 7200. Is it a new or old drive? Did you find it "in your junk closet" You might also want to do a full check for errors - that was a big part of my problem. Not to mention all the pretty clicking noises my old old drive was making... I think the clicks are a built in 'warning alert system' Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/8772-why-is-osx-so-incredibly-slow-on-my-system/#findComment-55186 Share on other sites
