That's weird, mine just worked asap.

After further testing, I've found that my bluetooth doesn't work. Anyway I can get this going? I've read in previous posts that it should work right out of the box. Which kernel are you guys using? I used the vanilla kernel? Anyway to switch in between kernels without having to reinstall?

I just double checked my hardware by swapping out my HD with one that has Vista installed. My particular 1525 model does not have BT. I did attach a BT dongle and that worked like a charm. Everything works the same as in the above post. No mic in, and right headphone jack does not work and the SD card reader does not work either. If someone has the driver for the card reader, please post. Thanks.

Toysrme, how did you get Marvell 88E80XX to work? I have looked everywhere and there is not a driver for it yet. Are you sure it is working? Where did you find the driver? Also, I have not found a way to make the card reader work, any help is greatly appreciated.

I just finished writing a tutorial, with all the drivers you need in one place.

Please note that I don't take credit for creating any of these drivers!

Thanks for posting the drivers! Got my wifi to work like a champ with your walk through using the terminal. I installed iatkos v4i and seem to have gotten video to work fine at 1280 x800 (think I selected the toh kernel vs vanilla) - USB wasn't working but did a search and downloaded the driver from apple's dev site.. works fine now.... got sound to work as well though can't fully mute using the mute button on the Dell 1525.... I got one final issue, looks like I can reliably boot when I have the bios set for multicore disabled (only 1 core running) - runs like a champ... stable and still pretty quick... would love to enable the other core on my 1525 (got the one with the Core2Duo 5750 at BB). Any ideas if there are patches that will allow me to run with the dual core on? I've tried the switch "idlehalt=0" but still hangs on the Apple intro screen... never goes to the blue/black like it does if it's set to single core.

Hi Dell owners.

I was asked by a friend to set an Inspiron 1525 to work with Leopard.

It took sometime to figure out how to upgrade to the latest cat 10.5.5, but it worked.

The installation I started with Leo4All v3 10.5.2 and was no problem to work with (except as you guess LAN Marvell 88E8040, card reader 3in1 and wireless Intel 3945 A/B/G - there are no viable solutions yet for these devices).

Before upgrading to 10.5.5 I had to patch the PS2, because the keyboard and touchpad are PS2 (in the first installation I couldn't solve to fix these because it was not possible to launch any package - I have introduced a system admin password so even using a USB mouse that worked I did not had a USB keyboard in order to patch the PS2 problem). Packages of PS2 kexts are attached. After upgrading without patching the PS2, the computer comes out of the black screen only by attaching a USB mouse. In order to have a fine "About This Mac" report and also in benchmark software I had to install those small packages from the Leo4All v3 10.5.2 DVD, namely AppleSMBIOS, AboutThisMac, by using Pacifist.

The Audio can be fixed in 10.5.5 with Taruga's v1.16 and 1525_codec.txt (the card is Sigmatel with identification 0x284b8086 but is working without internal microphone).

The graphic card associated GMA X3100 is working fine with QE/IC at highest resolution accepted 1280x800x32b.

The CPU Centrino Core2Duo is working with both cores without problems (this is solved now for new Dell notebooks), and the Geekbench score is really good ~2400.

For those non-believers, there is a captured screen attached.

Thank you methamp for the tutorial published it helped a lot. :)

Let me get this straight... You install these packages BEFORE upgrading to 10.5.5 from 10.5.4, or do you apply these packages AFTER? I had working PS2 keyboard and mouse before upgrading to 10.5.5 and afterward, not so much, so I reverted back to 10.5.4 and am still hoping for a solution before I jump into it again.

Thanks.

Congratulations to everyone who have gone out and purchased the Dell Inspiron 1525 from your local retailer and replaced Windows Vista with Mac OS X. Don't forget to show your support to Apple by purchasing a legitimate copy of OS X or a new MacBook.

Great work auqs10 - but given there is no solution for either the wifi or the network card I take it that means there is no way to join the Studio to a network? I really want to install OS-x on my Studio 17 but it has the newer ATI HD3450 for which I believe there are no kexts/drivers yet. Given that and the lack of any networking it's still not looking like I will be able to do this any time soon. :-(

This experiment with OS X on my laptop and desktop have been a success!!! My next laptop will be a Mac Book Pro and my next desktop will definitely be a iMac. But I'll still keep my SG33G5 as my media center running OS X. Anyway I can turn it to Apple TV?

I was able to run Kalyway 10.5.3 on a Dell Inspiron 1525. Core 2 Duo.

I got: Audio, AirPort, USB and Firewire.

--------------

It really rocks.

--------------

If you miss and can`t live without LAN, Touchpad scrolling or the card reader,

I strongly suggest you get a miniMAC, at least. I purchased this DELL because

I needed Windows XP. (yes, I downgraded from vista without a single doubt.)

I can also boot on Windows XP SP3 where EVERYTHING on this laptop works properly.

Kinda halts while booting windows now and then. Does not happen on 10.5.3 :D

I read this post, it took me days.

Peace, and thanks for this forum.

I am ordering a new inspiron 1525 from dell now, and hoping all the post on here can help me get leopard installed and working on it. This has been a great website to read so far, and very informative. If anyone has more info to chime in on for the inspiron 1525, let me know.

The one i ordered is a Intel core 2 duo, T5800 2.0 Ghz, 800mhz fsb, and 2MB cache.

3GB RAM DDR2

intel GMA X3100 graphics

250 GB SATA hard drive

integrated web cam

Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0

Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Mini Card

I hope the wireless and the graphics can work, those are the two main ones, and obviously the SATA hd recognized.

Here's my hardware:

Dell Inspiron 1525

Intel GMA X3100

Vendor: Intel (0x8086)

Device ID: 0x2a02

Revision ID: 0x0000c

Dell 1395 Wifi - Working

Marvell 88e8040 Ethernet - Not working

Synaptic Touchpad - Working, even have two finger scroll

Card Reader - Not working

I've got Kalyway 10.5.2 installed with vanilla kernel. I'm using the Leopard Update drivers and a custom Natit I got from one of the many threads I've been going blind looking thru. I also use this link: http://www.espressoreport.com/83/dell-insp...k-pro-tutorial/ I've got full CI/QE but only if I use SwitchResX at 1680X1000@63Hz. My native resolution is actually 1680X1050, so it's not all the way there. Also, with this config, even tho I have full QE/CI, under my dock I have some garbled image and then another mac menu bar.

What I'm wondering is if anyone else has the same model Dell as me with the same device ID and revision ID as me. And if so, what you did to get rid of the extra mac menu and garbled image stuff below the dock?

Hey guys thanks for all the help and have an amazing setup with my 1525. Its soooo close to a perfect macbook pro. No card reader or lan but both of those are outdated. One problem i have is that of the two audio codecs floating around one of them will not output through the headphone jack but has mute working. The other has can output through the headphone jack but no mute. Any advice?

EDIT: Sweet things that i find amazing that work;

Sound(headphones & speakers)

Media keys (to change songs & volume)

Graphics are awesome.

Battery Meter.

Its soooo close to a perfect macbook pro. No card reader or lan but both of those are outdated.

Have a look here if the dell 1525'card reader is a ricoh one (it works for dell studio 1535)
