Hi

I've had a read of the various forums and would like to install Leopard on my new Inspiron 1525.

What exactly do I need to do?

Download and install using Kalyway 10.5.1? Do I need to do anything else to be able to install it?

Has anyone tried to install it on an Inspiron 1525 laptop?

Given that my specs are the following, what kind of experience can I expect with Leopard?

T5450 Core 2 Duo 1.66GHz

2GB 667MHz dual-channel DDR2

Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100

Intel® 3945 802.11a/g Mini-card

250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

Many thanks for any pointers

Hello stamenkd, you are not the only one :D I just got an 1525 about 3 days ago and I have tried installing leopard.

My specs are the same as yours except the hard disk (doesn't matter). Since I've successfully installed Leopard (10.5.1) on an Aer Aspire 3683 (except ethernet and webcam doesn't work), so of course I have to try Dell.

First up I installed Vista, then use the Kalyway 10.5.1 installer (of course MBR)

Everything was smooth sailing... until the spinning white apple screen and it freezes

Restart and boot with "cpus=1" (also works if you disable dual core in BIOS) and it got past the white screen. Unfortunately the display went totally blank (this is a common problem for GMA X3100) so I plugged an external monitor and it works (with QE/CI). And I was able to complete the installation (no welcome movie loop like my previous Acer!!!)

Besides this method, you CAN boot without external monitor, but you'll lose QE/CI and a few other stuff. During boot use "-x" which is telling Leopard to boot into safe mood.

What should work natively is Bluetooth (icon shows up but I don't have any Bluetooth device to verify), webcam (I read on the forums, didn't test it yet) and the rest needs patching (sound, card reader etc). Wifi will not work (check the wiki on 3rd party driver), ongoing work.

And I'm not doing any patching until the display problem is fixed (very inconvenient to work/ patch). If you're really serious to get the internal display working, there are a number of work a rounds (sleep trick, force resolution change, you'll have to search the forums for more info), but there is no "true" fix... yet.

That's it, all I know about running Leopard on Dell 1525 (which is obviously not enough). I'll post updates if I get the internal display working.

If anyone knows how to fix the display problem, please don't hold back.

Just did a Kalyway 10.5.2 combo update, seem to be ok (touch pad, mouse, profiler working) but still unresolved monitor issue.

I got too comfortable and used the Leopard graphic update 1.0. screwed up everything (I read in plenty of places to stay clear of this, you should also)

I've installed iATKOSv1.0i several times, The graphics works but you gotta wait until the screen sleeps a couple of times. the WebCam and Bluetooth work natively however the Nic is a 88E8040 which doesn't seem to have support yet, and the wifi that I got with my was the 1395 (not the 1390) which doesn't work. I've tryed to patch the sound several times, not only does it not work but it knocks out my bluetooth. Anyone elce having any lock getting anything elce working?

A quick update for those who are still trying to install osx on their dell Inspiron 1525

when you install you got to use the cpus=1 function, and when screen blancs you gotta wait 10 minuest for the screen to sleep, once you're all the way to your desktop you can set hot corner to sleep.

The sound works with hda pather ver 1.6 only and your sigmatel 9228 codec dump

The Nic doesn't work and it doesn't look like anyone's working on it yet.

The Wireless work but you gotta put the dev in plist config for the wireless kext.

The Cardreader doesn't work yet

The Media keys don't work yet.

The PCMCIA - Not tested yet (I haven't tried to get it working yet.)

I'm having zero luck with this.

I install leo4allv3, reboot, get HFS+ partition error, reboot to cd, loads Leopard fine, reboot, HFS+ partition error - can never get back into leopard.

When I do get into Leopard that one time, I have no DVD drive, no sounds, no graphics, no ethernet, no wifi, but I do get webcam :)

Anyway I give up, I'm buying a real mac.

Can someone explain what this means? I really want to get this thing working, and am starting with the wifi. I'm new and this sentence makes no sense to me, sorry.

I am new to the site and the OSx86 world, however I have a 1525 dualbooting with vista. It is running Kalyway 10.5.2. Video works at 1280x800. I am having a terribly hard time with the Wi-FI card though. I have tried adding the Dev ID to the proper kext but it still will not work. I think my problem is with the NetworkInterfaces.plist Anyone have a copy of what is supposed to be in it?

Does anyone have the codec dump for the sound card? I think I've been trying the WRONG codec dumps 9208, and we have the 9228? If you could post it or PM it, that would be great. I have Kalyway 10.5.2 installed and have pretty much everything (that I need) working, aside from sound. Thanks.

EDIT:

I have sound and wireless issues resolved. Is there any way to get the following:

Battery Gauge (Hardware Growl shows battery status on A/C connect/disconnect

Touch pad functionality (tap to click, scroll)

This is the codec dump for the Inspiron 1525. Worked flawlessly (HDA) on the brand new ones. I bought this laptop at Best Buy a few days ago for $499.99. (Pentium Dual Core). Everything works 100% (and I mean everything). I'll be posting a tutorial soon on how I did it.1525_Codec.txt

Sweet! I can't wait for your tutorial. I just purchased the exact same laptop today.

I, too, will be waiting for this tutorial. I purchased my 1525 three months ago, but would really like leo on it.

Here are the best GMA X3100 graphic drivers I've found, full acceleration and all...

Still scratching my head as to the Marvel Yukon 88E8040 Wired Ethernet. Seems that there is no one developing it. Wish I knew how to code drivers... At the very least my wireless is working, which is great. Gonna grab a USB Ethernet adapter just in case I need a wired connection.

Graphics drivers? O_o

On my Inspiron 1525 with GMAX3100, I used NO graphics drivers or hacks and I'm sitting here with QE/CI.

I'm still sitting on 10.5.2, not exactly feeling the 10.5.3 -> 10.5.4 upgrade at this point since I had issues with getting sleep working. This works very well for me, so I see no reason to break anything ATM. I did not have QE when I installed, but now I have full hardware acceleration, along with QuartzExtreme and QuartzGL support.
