Don't know if this is a psychological thing or a misconfiguration problem, but my Windows and Linux seems to have a slghtly noticeable lower audio quality than my Leopard installation on the same PC. At least the sound seems clearer on my headphones at OS X. Do you have noticed somenthing like this in your X86 installations too?

Since hardware doesn't change, the better sound quality must come from different software/driver configurations. As I recall, there are methods to "enhance" audio quality on a software level. If driver/sound configurations on both OSX and Windows are the same yet sound quality differs, OSX must be using a different native audio driver to that of Windows legacy drivers, and thus the sound is reproduced with more clarity.

I'm also using the azalia driver... The enhancing option is not the case, turned off and still the audio is noticeably better, even itunes in windows isn't that good. Got to investigate this sometime.

Here, the simple AC97 generic driver on mac ownz windows by miles

same to say: sound volume is high and more clear than windows can do.

using the same speakers on the simple stereo configs
