Hi folks,

I have a dell latitude D600 laptop with a pentium m centrino cpu

it only supports SSE2

when I boot up kalyway ... the installer gets into the apple screen

where there is a rotating cursor at the center of the screen

a little later, the screen turns black but i can still see the rotating cursor at the center which is now like the negative of a photo ...

it then just reboots

and keep on looping the above steps over and over

does anyone know of the step by step way of installing kalyway on older machines ???

Thanks

The same thing happens to me using Toh's Leopard Disk. I've been skimming around for a solution for months but none seems to turn up till now.

I'm have an IBM R51 with Centrino 1.5GHZ, 1.25GB RAM, 80GB hard drive, intel 855 display and intel 2200 wireless. It ran perfectly with Tiger.

I'm looking forward for an iatkos release which is said to run specifically for SSE2 machines. Hope it solves the problem... if it even gets released.

Let everyone you know who has a DELL to bookmark this thread: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...amp;hl=stac9200

The rebooting is usually caused because of the lack of HPET in dell bios. You need to press f8 at boot and type cpus=1 or disable one core in the bios. Or you could edit the /library/preferences/systemconfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist Read above link for how to.

Try typing -v at boot for verbose to see any error messages.

I had the same issue with my D600 the first time I tried and then found this info in the Wiki. It works:

Latitude 600

  • Install Method: Kalyway DVD
  • Processor: Pentium M
  • Audio: Sigmatel C-Major (Vendor Id:8086 Device Id: 24C5) works without patches
  • LAN: Broadcom 5701 Gigabit Integrated Controller (Vendor Id: 14E4 Device Id: 165D) works without patches
  • Dell Truemobile 1300 works without patches
  • PCMCIA/Cardbus doesn't work
  • Install Instructions: (This is for a fresh installation, for upgrade, see below)
    1. To install:
      • Format Hard Drive as MSDOS
      • Boot DVD
      • Partition as Journaled HFS+
      • Choose SSE2
      • Do not choose any drivers
      • Install

[*] After install, there will be a kernel panic. To fix:

    • Boot into -s mode
    • Run terminal
    • Delete the AppleBCM575x.kext file from your hard drive at: System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleBCM575x.kext
    • Reboot & Enjoy

[*]If you "upgraded" from a previous version of OS 10, you may be faced with the problem of not being able to log in. Your passwords will not work including not having a password. You must boot into -s mode, reset the root password, reboot to the login screen, login as root with your new password, change the other User passwords or eliminate the other Users and create new ones to replace them. See here for a few methods of dealing with this

Alright, I'm trying this and getting the kernel panic. How do I use the terminal to delete that kext? I'm not sure of the commands using the single user mode. Can it be done easier using the terminal while booting of the dvd, or should I boot the installed hd system in single user?

Greetings,

I have a few questions and here goes :-

1. Do you mean format your whole hard drive as Ms Dos Fat 32 type partition ???

2. After the hard drive is formated as Fat32, I will not get the rebooting issue if I boot from the Leo DVD ??? is the the case ???

3. Is this using Kalyway DVD ???

Hope to hear from you soon.

Warmest Regards

I think they just mean to format the disk using mbr not guid. I'm trying a second time with my d600. Is it necessary to select a bootloader? I selected the mbr one. But I had trouble deleting the kext and finally did, but it still didn't finish booting so I'm trying again. He used Kaly 10.5.1 dvd I believe.

sorry but I am a newbie here.

Greetings.

May I kindly what do you mean by formatting using Mbr and Guid ?

Do I have to get into the os x installation menu to format the disk using mbr or guid ???

my problem is that i cannot seem to get into the installation menu of the kalyway dvd ...

the dvd just keeps on running then reboot and looping over again ...

is there some way to get into the installation menu of Kalyway dvd ???

Thanks

Hey, this time it worked! Kaly 10.5.1 on a Dell D600 amazing. I tried all the apps I could think of, and the only one that wouldn't launch is iCal. Everything else seemed to run ok, although it still isn't completely recognizing my ralink pci card. Tiger said no device, and Leo now says radio off, so still no wireless. I have the original Dell 1350 card, and a Truemobile 1450 card on the way off ebay, so hopefully something will work, and I can test it out further. As for your dvd problem, mine has no glitch when booting from the dvd using an external dvd drive, and I'm installing on the 2nd hdd caddy in the laptop. Maybe your dvd is bad?

then i see a black screen with a negative of the turning cursor

next i get a reboot

and the above will loop over and over ...

may i kindly ask what options did you select when you were in the installation menu of os x

and did you select efi or mbr booting ???

are you also using vanila kernal ???

if so ... how ?!?!?! can the vanila kernal work on a non C2D system ?!?!?!

and finally were you able to do a dual boot between os x and win xp ???

Greetings all,

How are you doing ?

I hope you are all doing very well.

I am one of the many folks who are using a SSE2 Pentium M Centrino systems.

I am also one of the many folks who have the looping reboot issue.

Today I booted up kalyway dvd and used the "-v" switch.

I got the following error message :-

Does anyone know what is wrong ?

What does disk1s2:I/O Error means ???

This error message kept on scrolling up the screen one after another ... all the same

I think some time ago certain folks using 10.4.X Tiger DVD had the same issue ...

Does anyone remember how to bypass this error ?

Thank you

Warm Regards

Ok Folks !!!

I found the solution ...

It was a "Faulty CD" !!!

:D

I was not happy with it all so I burned another iso image of kalyway with a different dvd burner

and it worked ...

I was able to get into the OS X Installer !!!

I was speechless ...

The funny thing was that the first DVD burned 100% successfully ...

I had no idea absolutely that it was faulty ...

until I burned the second DVD with a different DVD burner ...

So there you go folks ...

for me ... it is working ...

I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK EACH AND EVERYONE WHO HELP ME WITH MY PROBLEMS - ESPECIALLY YOU AND YOU ...

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND EFFORT ...

I REALLY APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH ...

:D

Warmest Regards

Great! I have a question about the Dell Truemobile 1300 working for wireless. When I searched ebay, there are a couple of different options available. Does the internal version work ok? Or does it have to be a pcmcia card, or usb2.0 version to work?

I'm pretty new to Mac, so please be patient with me.

I have a Dell Latitude D600, and was able to install from the Kalyway DVD 10.5.1. I installed to an External USB drive, as my internal drive is running XP and I didn't want to mess with that.

The install went OK, but when it reboots, it hangs at the Apple Logo screen, with the spinning gear. I tried the trick of removing the BCM kext drivers, but that didn't have any affect.

Is there somewhere I can see a log file of where it's hanging? Any other options to try?

Thanks all,

jb

Has anyone gotten wireless to work on the D600? if so how?

Checkout this thread. Got Intel 2200 working on my D600. A little bit of a lag remains in this driver, but at least it will get you working..

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=84072

I still can't get this rebooting problem corrected. Went through the Kalyway 10.5.1 install just fine, tried to follow all instructions listed in this full forum, but when the system tries to boot itself off the HD after the install completes, it just dies as soon as it hits the apple logo screen and reboots over and over. Any further suggestions would be appreciated. I had this laptop working fine on 10.4.8 previously but did a clean install and formatted 1 partition using MBR, as suggested.

try booting with -v and since you removed the bcm kext, add the -f flag too
