~pcwiz
I had a G3 iMac 500MHz/384MB RAM/40GB HD/CD-RW (now dead ) that ran Panther fine, nice and fast with no problems at all. It even ran emulators It couldn't do all the heavylifting that you need a G4 for, but it worked great just the same. 233MHz I'm not so sure about... Colonel
Well just incase I cannot get OS X to run on this machine for what ever reason, what are some excellent OS 9 applications that may modernize my apple. Such as word processing, internet browing and printing support... So far all I have heard is iCab for os9 Are there any other programs that spike interest? As for the mac mini disk, I'm now going to attempt to work with it, thanks PCwiz. I'll see if it works soon enough... Office 98, iCab, uhh printing with newer printers might be a challenge iCab is the only browser still being developed for OS9.. it works, but it's slow. Uhm.. The mac-mini disk won't work as it was for the mac-mini and has machine checks on it to make sure it only works on the mac-mini. Of course there are ways to get around this, but it takes time, effort, and another blank DVD. Probably isn't worth your time anyway since your iMac only has a CD drive. Personally on my iMac G3, I've been running my own compiled/optimized version of Gentoo linux. It actually runs very nicely compared to Panther which i was running, especially considering that this is like the latest release of Gentoo.. ~pcwiz
LOL Detected as iMac "Flower Power" That was the ugliest iMac ever made, most likely the ugliest electronic device ever made Anyway, does it actually automatically recognize it like that or did you do a manual edit? So if I installed it on an Indigo iMac would it be like "iMac Indigo" and detect the color?

~pcwiz
Wow thats pretty cool, so I guess Apple didn't do the cookie cutter thing and put the same stuff in the computers but with a different colored case, I guess then there would have to be different PROM/ROM/NVRAM chips for the different colored models?. Maybe is a Flower Power only thing I know, some people like FP iMacs but I just don't get the point of having flowers (and ugly ones at that) splattered all over the case of a computer: But hey, you like it so thats what matters Oh yeah and I forgot to mention, I once tried to put Linux on my Indigo G3 500 when it was alive, but when I put in the Ubuntu LiveCD it wouldn't boot, it would just hang. exholt
Out of curiosity, do you still have a Dimm slot free or are all your RAM slots filled? If you can get some PC100/133 RAM for real cheap/free.....see if you can increase it. 233 Mhz G3 machines aren't bad at all for basic office, internet, itunes, etc as I have a bunch of Beige G3s running Tiger and OS9 through xpostfacto and they all run swimmingly... I also recently rescued an Indigo Imac from the trash and after replacing the enclosed 192 MB RAM with 512 MB I got from a giveaway, it is running Tiger like a champ and is good for basic office , itunes, and internet apps. I would also try out some distributions of PPC linux.....though I wish someone would update the flash software so I could use PPC ubuntu to browse youtube and other flash driven sites without issues.
