I have successfully installed and used Kalyway on my Asus p5w dh board with working network before but for some reason, now it isn't working for me after a clean install. I have tried a couple times now and still I get no support for the on board ethernet. Sound works fine and the realtek shows up fine. I know there isn't a Ykon driver in the Kalyway install section but it has worked for me out of the box before. What gives? How can I get the ethernet working again?

Go with Iatkos, it tried kalyway and had the same issues. kalaway didn't seems as nice as iaktos, due to all the annoying mods. I like my install stock then ill put what i feel is necessary to improve the system.

Pm me if you need help making iatkos bootable

But the Asus P5W DH has the dual Marvel Yukon network controllers on board....you sure its the same mobo?

you ARE of course right - im using a p5bw - but at the same time for other problems, fixes for v similar hardware have worked and given how long ive been searching now, im starting to clutch at straws!

Hey guys--

I figured out that if you DON'T install the Realtek driver from the Kalyway or iAtkos install, then the ethernet should work no problem. Like Avenger I am running my Asus p5w on bios version 2406.

The wireless sucks anyways. Just get a pci card if you have to have it.

I have the same board P5W DH Deluxe and I just managed to get the onboard Ethernet and the WiFi working. I had to download some drivers though. To get the Yukon 88E8053 Ethernet working -- download the Gigabyte_ds3-4pack.1.2.dmg I don't remember where I found it so you'll have to do a search. Don't use Pacifist to open!! I just opened it the regular way and when I got to the spot where you choose which drivers to install, I just checked the box next to Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8053 followed the rest of the instructions and it worked perfectly. For the Wifi, I downloaded MacOS10.4_Universal_Driver_1.4.5_Ul1.4.7.zip and installed it and it worked perfectly. One item of note, these were not the first items I tried. I downloaded the IONetworkingFamily.kext and copied it to the System/Library/Extensions folder. I don't know if this file played a part in the other drivers working but they both work now and that's all that matters. Also, I couldn't stand the ugly orange background to my folder screens so I also downloaded the Restore_Factory_Desktop_settings.zip file and installed it to give my computer the traditional Leopard desktop look. I hope this helps you. I'll try to upload each of these files with this post, we'll see if it works. --I couldn't upload the gigabyte_ds3-4pack.1.2.dmg file because it was too large (5 MB) so you'll have to Google it or something. I also couldn't upload the Restore_Factory_Desktop_settings.zip file because it was also too large (17 MB) so you'll have to find that one too. But at least you know what to look for. Good luck!!!

I had to reinstall my operating system and found that my initial instructions were incomplete. The following instructions are what got my dual gigabit networking to work properly.

  • Install Kalyway
  • Go to Leopard (or whatever you named your hard drive)>> System >> Library >>Extensions
  • Click on IONetworkingFamily.kext – when it asks you what to open it with, choose Kext Helper. Highlight the filename enter your user password in the Password box, then click the easy install button. Load the file then let it reboot the machine.
  • Find the skge.kext.o2e folder and open it. Right click on skge.kext and select copy. Go to the Leopard >> System >> Library >>Extensions folder and right click then select to paste item.
  • Click on the Gigabyte DS3-4 package installer and follow the prompts to accept the installation and provide your password. When you get to the list of items to install, ONLY check the one for the Yukon Gigabit Ethernet. Complete the install and let the system restart.
  • Click on the apple in the upper left corner of the screen, select System Properties, click on Network. You should now see at least two Ethernet connections that are red saying they are not connected.
  • Click on one of the non-connected Ethernet connections. In the right side of the window where it says DHCP, change it to BOOTP then click on Apply.
  • In the right side of the window select DHCP (automatic) then click on the Advanced tab. Click on Renew DHCP Lease. Click OK then Click Apply. You should now see this Ethernet connection turn green and become connected. Follow the same procedures for any additional Ethernet connections.
  • Install the Restore_Desktop_Settings package to change your window colors and backgrounds back to the normal Leopard scheme.

I couldn't upload the gigabyte_ds3-4pack.1.2.dmg file because it was too large (5 MB) so you'll have to Google it or something. I also couldn't upload the Restore_Factory_Desktop_settings.zip file because it was also too large (17 MB) so you'll have to find that one too. But at least you know what to look for. I'm now working on updating my system to 10.5.2 using a guide found on insanelymac.

after installing the kexts, i tried to go to the Network pane in preferences. No matter how i access it, it locks up. Here are a list of ways i've tried

1.Preferences - > Network

2.Preferences - > Parental Control - > Network

3.Spotlight -> network.pref

I'm stumped... and until I can figure that out, im stuck here typing on my eMac......
