So after reading several posts like this I decided to try changing my resolution manually be editing my com.apple.boot.plist file myself. I added the the lines "<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280X1024X32@60</string>" in the file. When I reboot, my screen does have that resolution, however it is in very grainy black and white. I do have an nVidia video card that is obviously not supported. If it helps I have a Dell Dimension 1.7Ghz and the nVidia GeForce2 MX 4000. Some help on how/if I can change my resolution would be great. This 1024x768 is killing me. Also I am used to two displays. Can I get OSX to detect my second display, or do i have to wait for macvidia to come out with a 10.4.3 update? I could really use some help on this, and ive tried everything I could find in the forums...

I need some help with how to do this in the BIOS. What exactly do I have to do and how?

Update: So I just looked through my Dell Dimension P4 1.9Ghz BIOS version A01 and could find no mention of the video buffer. I saw a cache size under CPU info but nothing about Video Buffer size. Where do I find it because I didnt see many options?

I am having exactly the same problem with pretty much an identical set up. I've got BIOS A09, but I'll let you know if I find anything.

What's weird is that it starts up right, but then turns fuzzy. And strangely, while the resolution is correct, it only says it is displaying 256 colors instead of millions.

I think a friend of mine got it to work on his system with 10.4.3, but it doesn't seem to do anything for me. It may be worth a shot, though, it's pretty easy to try and I don't think it'll screw anything up for you.

Hopefully the 10.4.3 version will be out soon....

Webtek, thanks for the info on how to edit the file manualy, its allowed me to

on my Amd 64 3700+ (Clawhammer 754) with a Nvidia Fx5200 256mb AGP card, get to 1280x1024 with vivid colour crisp lines, with out useing macvidia to i might add, and its soooo much better and its what i am used to, i am loveing mac osx x86 more and more and more, if its this good in 10.4.1, then i imagin 10.4.3 will be even better, i am just getting used to 10.4.1 for a while then will have a bash at 10.4.3, cant be that hard if i got 10.4.1 working (tho it took alot of md5 checksum checking to make sure i had the right files, for the guide i was following but luckyly i did, so Well done apple, and its really quick to (natively) anyway ill stop bleating on now, as ive gone off topic to much already

lol

Ben

I'm thinking about giving this a go on a Dell M170 notebook using a Go 6800Ultra video card. The card is listed as compatible, but at 1024x768 which looks horrid on the M170's 1920x1200 screen. Does this manual edit of the config file work for high resolutions such as 1920x1200?
